For Tech Heads - The Woz

I like listening to Woz talk about the early days. He is such an engineer - hey, I like that pong game - think I'll build one. And I had forgotten about the infamous phone phreaks. Thanks for the links - I enjoyed listening to them.

  12. Yes, Joseph Conrad is the author. Most of the quotes are taken from Heart of Darkness. The meaning of Kurtz's "The horror! The horror!" has been hotly debated in English departments since the book was first published. Papers and articles abound! For those of you who don't know, the movie Apocalypse Now is based on Conrad's Heart of Darkness. Wrds, your turn.
  13. A few more: "The horror! The horror!" "Marlow ceased, and sat apart, indistinct and silent, in the pose of a meditating Buddha. Nobody moved for a time. "We have lost the first of the ebb," said the Director suddenly. I raised my head. The offing was barred by a black bank of clouds, and the tranquil waterway leading to the uttermost ends of the earth flowed sombre under an overcast sky--seemed to lead into the heart of an immense darkness."
  14. Waysider: This song isn't "Killin' Floor", but it could easily be a homage, same as "Lemon Song" by Led Zeppelin. However, it's very apparent that the "Lemon Song" is indeed a homage to "Killin Floor", while this song is a bit more subtle. Here's a clue: In the "Killin' Floor" lyrics, if you change the "went" to "going" then you'll pretty much have the name of this song.

  19. BizRate - for companies that are rated with comments http://www.bizrate.com/vacuums_accessories...on+vacuums.html Kaboodle - I did find a review at this site (must scroll down): http://www.kaboodle.com/reviews/dyson-vacu...-factory-direct I copied it for you: Attempting to purchase a Dyson vacuum from factorydirectsuperstore.com was the single most horrific consumer experience of my life! They took 3 weeks to send us a broken vacuum (clearly a return)- although they will give you a written guarantee that their products are all new! Then didnt return any calls or emails for another month, then finally we got the broken vacuum sent back and then they didnt send us a replacement or refund us!! After many more weeks of unanswered calls and emails, and finally a threat to file claim with the Atty. General's office, our vacuum showed up, actually appears to be working. wow. The little bit of money we may have saved buying there was NOT WORTH THIS HEADACHE!!!! Not even a LITTLE!!!!!! DON'T BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!! Posted by dysonowner at 2:37 PM on 12/10/07
  20. A few more: "It's queer how out of touch with truth women are. They live in a world of their own, and there has never been anything like it, and never can be. It is too beautiful altogether, and if they were to set it up it would go to pieces before the first sunset. Some confounded fact we men have been living contentedly with ever since the day of creation would start up and knock the whole thing over". "Facing it, always facing it, that's the way to get through. Face it". "Being a woman is a terribly difficult task, since it consists principally in dealing with men". “. . . No, it is impossible; it is impossible to convey the life-sensation of any given epoch of one’s existence—that which makes its truth, its meaning—its subtle and penetrating essence. It is impossible. We live, as we dream—alone. . . .”

  22. Dot: I usually check first at Amazon because I know that they are reputable, and I can compare prices. Plus, GSC gets a percentage from Amazon when we go through GSC to get to Amazon. Just one more way for pawtucket to offset some costs. I did a quick check and Amazon sells the DCO7 for 10 bucks more than the web site you gave a link to. And, there's some things I don't like about the website you gave: 1. It just doesn't look professional. 2. They don't state prices right up front. Just my 2 centavos...
  23. Mr. Skin? I think I'll let prudence rule the day and keep my comments to myself. New Tune: I’ve got four or five hundred miles to go Down that southbound highway ’53 studebaker goin’ for broke I'm pushin' it night and day
