  1. WW, you are correct. Your turn.
  2. Waysider, thanks for that interesting piece of musical history. It seems that Donovan started out trying to emulate Dylan, then moved into more of a psychedelic music direction. Which is more what I associate Donovan with, songs like "Season of the Witch", "Mellow Yellow", and "Hurdy-Gurdy Man". Okay, on to the next song: You got me running goin' out of my mind
  3. You would be shocked and amazed by the long and winding road by which I came to identify this song: It has something to do with VH1's, The Drug Years, and "Season of the Witch"... Anyway, I think it's "Catch the Wind" by Donovan. It sounds a little Dylan-e, did Dylan do it also, or does Donovan just sound like him on the early recording? Waysider, do you know?

    Song of the moment

"Light My Fire" - The Doors
  5. Peary was North Pole, in fact he claimed to be the first one to reach the North Pole, if memory serves. You guys are all so close, someone has got to come up with this!
  6. I can't think of any other clues I can give...There were four important Antarctic explorers and you have named two of them. Let's see...the remaining two explorers were competing to see who could reach the South Pole first. One explorer and his team accomplished the mission in record time, the other and his team perished on the ice (see quote). Edited to say: Oops, I forgot to say...No, not Byrd.
  7. "Good Lovin'" it is...I believe that by the time this song came out they had changed their name to The Rascals. So, you're up.
  8. Ah, Fahrenheit 451 - Ray Bradbury. Good Book and a pivotal scene. Kind of looks like my house with all those books... Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.... No, it's not Shackleton...but close.
  9. Finally thought of the name of that song - Knew the artist - The Eagles Knew the album - On The Border Knew the melody.... And finally the circuits made a connection - Ol' 55 by the Eagles Now I need to come up with another song, Be back in a few.....
  10. anotherDan is on the right track - It was written by an Antarctica explorer.

    Cult Statistics?

Cindy! I'm not sure where you have looked, so here's some suggestions off the top of my head. Did you try the International Cultic Studies Association? It looks like that might be a good resource. Here's the link to the home page- http://www.icsahome.com/ Or F.A.C.T. net - http://factnet.org/ However, I can't vouch for either of these two groups. Also, most colleges and universities subscribe to a myriad of scholarly and research publications that are online. I'm not sure if you are enrolled in a college or university, but I've found the online publications to be a great resource. Hope this helps.

  13. GSG: I believe you are correct about that translation. Although it has been close to a decade since I delved into Latin (has it really been that long), so my Latin is very rusty. BTW, my favorite Latin quote: Nunc est bibendum! Okay, on to the next quote: "We took risks, we knew we took them; things have come out against us, and therefore we have no cause for complaint, but bow to the will of Providence, determined still to do our best to the last... Had we lived, I should have had a tale to tell of the hardihood, endurance, and courage of my companions which would have stirred the heart of every Englishman. These rough notes and our dead bodies must tell the tale."
  14. New Tune: Now you move so fine, let me lay it on the line I wanna know what you're doin' after the show
  15. Kristie Alley Look Who's Talking Olympia Dukakis (If I'm not thinking of right movie for Shoot to Kill, then I don't know it.)
  16. GSG: I am ROTFLMAO. Who knew 3 years of college Latin would come in handy on GSC? I only took it to fill the language req. and translate Medieval Manuscripts ( I have since given that up). That would be Julius Caesar - spent a whole semester on those Commentaries. Now, all I can translate is the first phrase without my Latin/English Dictionary. "All of Gaul is divided into three parts"
  17. It's "Day Tripper" by The Beatles. Your turn.

    Plagarism !?

Jeff: When R. handed me that sheet of paper with the "Teaching on Love by VPW to the Way Corps" , she had tears welling up in her eyes, as she told me about VPW's great heart. One problem though, in reality, it wasn't VPW's heart, it was Eric Fromm's heart that was so great, kind, and beautiful. One of the reasons that people went into the Way Corps was "to sit at the Master's feet", to have a certain kind of access to top leadership, especially VPW. VPW would teach the Corps what God, himself was teaching VPW. Pretty powerful and heady stuff - and what an honor, who in their right (Way) mind wouldn't want to avail themselves of that? But now here's the problem, since VPW seemed to have no compunction against cribbing from Fromm, how many other people did VPW crib from? How many other Corps night teachings came from someone else's heart and mind? To me, this makes VPW a fraud. He billed himself as The Man of God, but he was really nothing more than a two-bit hustler, cribbing from other people's work to keep up the "god is teaching me the word like it hasn't been known since the first century " sham. Moreover, if VPW "borrowed" other people's work, how many other top leadership engaged in this practice? Did LCM, did J*hn L*nn, did Mich*el F*rt, and the rest of them do the same thing? Was this practice systemic? Well, I can give you one example of LCM copying someone else's work - Athletes of the Spirit: the dance production. He took that from Travolta's movie Stayin' Alive. Of course, LCM said, in explanation, that God gave him the revelation first and once it was out there, the debil got ahold of it, and was able to use it before LCM had a chance to get it together. Yeah, right. At one point in my life I bought that bs, but not anymore. Not Anymore.
  19. Paul Newman Cool Hand Luke Dennis Hopper
  20. "It's Not Unusual" For artist it's a toss up between Wayne Newton or Tom Jones - I pick Tom Jones because I seem to remember extremely tight pants, which would be Tom Jones. So my guess is: "It's Not Unusual" by Tom Jones
  21. Why did I get involved with TWI? A member of the opposite sex. I was also given a book to read before I took the class - One that I'm sure is no longer for sale in the TWI bookstore - John Lynn's Will the Real You Please Stand Up (I think that was the name of Lynn's first book; it's been a long time). I was given the book because I was asking a lot questions and I think they were tired of saying, "You'll have to wait until you take the class". Why did I leave? I realized that TWI was a corrupt and dishonest organization and I refused to be associated with such an organization any longer. Brushstroke: Please carefully consider what all the other posters have stated here. I wish someone would have told me these same things before I signed the "green card" for PFAL and found myself in a cult.
