When I first moved to Texas, someone lent me her copy of How to Speak Southern. She didn't think it was funny, because she spoke exactly as in the book! A couple that missed ex70's list: NOME: a child's response to his mother. "Jew break the winner with thishere baseball?" "Nome." WRETCHED: man's name. "Wretched Burton is a fan actor." George

Raf? Raf? RAF!!!! George

We've occasionally had people pop in out of turn, adn then we wind up having separate threads going, and it gets confusing. On the other hand, I know how frustrating it can be when you have a line you want to use but can't guess anyone else's clues. We COULD let Doojable post her clue with the caveat that getting it right doesn't give you the next turn. That belongs to whoever gets Flow7's clue. (Of course, if Dooj gets Flow's clue, the point is moot!) George

"Saturday in the Park" by Chicago. I always thought the line was "singing foreign songs." George

I read Archie comics until about 1970. (When the prices went up, I stuck with the super-hero stuff and ditched the "funny books.") I did watch the cartoon show (and, I think, "Josie and the Pussycats"). I remember that Archie's last name was Andrews, Jughead's was Jones, and Veronica's was Lodge; but I can't remember Betty's and Reggie's last names. Nor, for that matter, Big Ethyl's, Moose's, or Midge's. Can anyone help me out? George

I prefer the old Bill Phillips "doo-wop" version, but Robert Plant's styling on it is good, too. George

Correct, of course. Your turn. George

Yes, Dooj got several of the clues (among her many guesses). Keep working... George (And Raf's clue should help, too!)

Got booted for thinking. Probably wouldn't have been around too much longer, though. George

Happy Birthday, Radar! No "blue" faces today! George

Sorry. OCCASIONALLY I have other things to do. Go for it. George

"To Live or Die in L.A."? George

No, Joey needs all the prayer he can get. I know how you feel, though. George

Actually, no. I'd forgotten that there was a movie called "Redeye." (About an airplane, I think.) I actually have seen "Crimson Tide," so it came to me instead. George
-
Red dye = "Crimson Tide"? George
-
Raf got it. Good tries, the rest of you! George

I should also point out that the song had to be actually heard on the radio, not just your favorite song on some album. (Of course, anything post-1980 would have to be a BIG hit for me to remember it.) George

You've got the right idea, you're just not seeing "the big picture" for the first clue. George

I didn't see the "magic fridge" commercial during the game (must have been a "bio-break"). I just saw it on the link Mark put up. It was pretty funny! George

I got a big kick out of the FedEx caveman commercial and the Michelob Amber "touch football" commercial. The "Godzilla and robot have Hummer baby" was just creepy. And the "Whopperettes" was an amusig idea, but the commercial was too long. George Oh, and from Mark's link, it appears that we didn't see all the GoDaddy (whatever that is) commercials. Pity...

Here's another of those Jeannie/Samantha -- Ginger/Mary Ann deals: Morticia (Carolyn Jones) or Lily (Yvonne DeCarlo)? George (I tried to pick photos without the horror makeup.)

Well then, I'll try not to link to more than one image from any website! While Raf seems to be busy, try this one: George

Don't get me wrong. A letterer doesn't write the stuff, though he doesn't have to accept every assignment, either. The last time I spoke with Clem about this was at a WIB at least 10 years ago. The teachings in the Fine Arts group were about godliness in art. I told Clem I felt bad about even READING Vertigo stuff, and he told me that he was very conflicted about lettering them. If that has changed, then I would guess that he's not still "in," because he'd be browbeaten about it regularly if he were. The next time you e-mail him, tell him I say Hi. I think he'll remember me. George

The last time I spoke with Clem (admittedly a long time ago), he was married. (I think his wife's name is Laurie?) Interestingly, he was almost embarrassed about the Vertigo stuff he did for DC. He even removed his name from the credits of at least one issue because the language was so foul. I still see his work occasionally in "mainstream" DC titles. George

Of course, if you have no reason to expect a call from the Caribbean Islands (809); the British Virgin Islands (284); or Jamaica (876), then it probably is a scam. George
