  1. JJ-

I looked at the site you posted. That little sadie AKA Hilti is so cute! She has been at the shelter for over a year and apparently is well behaved. Stuff like that breaks my heart.

Zix- Our vet had many cats roaming around that lived in his office. HE was such a great guy who just retired. Congrats on the 5 cats! We have 5 dogs.

Re: American Cockers. There are some nice ones for sure --to those of you that have a good one. I have a white one that comes into the shop that is a dream dog. But out of all the dogs I groom I have been bitten by Cockers more than any other breed. On Groomers.com there was a past discussion on Chows and several people said the were frequently bitten by the Cockers and were more worried about them then Chows. IMO and from what I have read it is due to bad and over breeding. Shame, cause they are beautiful!

    But yes, ya never know.

I had a Golden Retriever that was so amorous I am sure we were married in 12 states. But when I touched his rear he knocked me down and stood on my throat. Later, I found he had been shot by a BB gun by some stupid kid and the dog was very protective about his butt.

There is alot to be said for a pup, but the first two years expect alot of work with them!

I got dogs that were over 2 yrs and under 2 yrs. And the over 2 yrs ones were easier for me to adjust to them! Calmer....

Pray you get the right dog and you will

    Congrats FB on the pup.

Hope: your dog is so sweet looking!

Anyone know an older person willing to take an older dog?

    She is cute!

Here is another sad story about puppy mills. Look how cute this rescue is! She was 1.4 pounds when rescued!

  2. Well, I guess I have to stay up to midnight, make some toast, find my old tap shoes and go to the theater.

Chinson: People used to write in and offer to ce bitten by Barnabus Collins!!! Remember Willie Lumis... I was always frightened for him. Carolyn was a ditz, but I liked Victoria Winters.

Abagail: I never saw Harold and Maude or Clockwork Orange. But remember the Beatles

    "Yellow Submarine?"

Firebee: Thanks for the lyrics! I do LOVE the time warp.

Pirate: I think alot of men wanted to see Ann Margrett wet and rolling around.

Oak: Sorry I do not know of Swift Kick --and I am from Philly. Did they play the Time Warp? You must have thought them to be strange to hear the music and not have heard of the movie first.... I imagine....

Dammit Janet-- So that is how you got your name? I guess it is better than hearing them yell "Janet you s---t" That would have been a really bad nick name!

Yan: I love Tim Curry. But what else was he in after RockyHPS? My husband and I were trying to figure that out.

Zix: People call you Mr. French? Yeah, that would irritate me... But he was sophisticated!

HWY- I wish I sneaked out to the show while in the corps. That would have been so much fun compared to the stiff old Emporia laws.

MJ- you too? A fan? Damn it Janet! I wonder if Susan Sarandon has ever lived that down.

Datway: Did you go as a kid or an adult or both? Somewhere I heard they stopped allowing kids to throw things. Theaters sure must have gotten mad at all the goo they had to clean up! I would have been! OR charged alot of money to include the cost of clean up.

Okay, I guess it doesn't make sense intentionally

  3. The peke rescue was $150.00 for the dog.

SHHS was around the same. They will be spayed and up on all their shots. (Spaying costs about $90.00 and shots about $30.00 so the $150.00 is not making them any money.)

BUT some rescues charge $250.00 for young dogs like a yorkie. If the dog is older they charge less.

My pet mixes (mutts) are more intelligent -I believe - then my pure breeds. Breeders have over-bred many breeds to the end they have messed them up. The Irish Setter was over-bred to the point it has lost its intelligence. The breeders were trying to get a thin sleek face. The English bulldog was over-bred to the point they can not mate on their own anymore. They have to be inseminated. Isn't it sad?

But the English Spaniel has not been over-bred and it really a great dog from all I have heard.

So some mutts can be the best. The thing is when you get a dog from a reputable breeder you have a better shot at a healthy mellow dog. Good breeders are to stop breeding dogs with health problems or bad temperments. Yes, with a mutt or puppy mill dogs you do not know. I was fortunate to get GREAT rescues!

If you call a rescue group they can tell you about the animal. They tey to see how the dog is with other animals, children, left alone etc.

So, a rescue is a good way to go -- or the reputable breeder, IMO.

    God bless!

God Bless! I hope you find your new best friend soon!

PS it has become all about money. I was at a dog show and was watching and chatting with the groomer for a peke. The peke had a small white mark on her face -- the groomer pulled out a SHARPIE magic marker and colored in the spot!

I said "that can not be good for the dog..." She ignored me. The white spot could have cost them the prize money.....

So, you can see how the breeders tried to breed in a wider chest on the bulldogs and sleeker faces on the setters to win the cash. Because that is what the judges like to see. Unreal, huh?

  4. I LOVED DARK SHADOWS! And yes, I saw it was back on and watched it and it was awful!!!

I saw Panic in Needle Park when I was a teen -- loved it! Then, years later I saw it and it was terrible -- did not stand the test of time.

Ya know, The Wizard of OZ is still one of my favorites -- go figure.

Maybe one needs to smoke a j to understand those movies and that is something that has been left behind long long ago.

Maybe I will watch it on an Efforx or St. Joh's Wart and see if it is any better.

Pirate- why was she rolling in the beans and chocolate? What did that indicate?

  5. We just had a new carpet put in -- 3 weeks ago and they are peeing. When I catch them I yell NO. The penny thing is a good idea.

Part of the problem is sometimes I will find the pee and am unsure who did it.

Makes me crazy! Thanks for the penny shaking idea.

  6. Rottie:

My dogs have accidents. I mean, they are out in our fenced yard 4 times a day for about 30 minutes a time and one will come in (not always the same one either) and pee on the rug.

    What do you suggest?

Yes, I am glad my hubby is into pets. It was very important to me. I wanted a non-smoker, pet lover who believed in God and had similar political views... Loving pets was VERY BIG!

Perhaps you should date a vet. Now how to go about meeting a single one? Mmmmmm how would one do that?

By the Way, why don't you get a larger bed? At least a Queen?

  7. PMosh- some considerations:

From the site "Tibetan Spaniels are the perfect small dog - gay, active, not nervous, very companionable, a good watch dog, healthy, and extremely intelligent - what more could you wish?"

    http://www.tibbies.net/history.html

    The Japanese Chin:

    http://www.japanesechinrescue.org/jccare.html

    Temperament

A sensitive and intelligent small dog whose only purpose is to serve man as a companion. Responsive and affectionate with those it knows and loves but reserved with strangers or in new situations.

  8. Ron - you are so funny! Your son is adorable and your right that "great Dane" will not work in an apt.

P-Mosh if you like check out those sites I listed they can help you. Are you seeking a small dog? Peke rescue has some CUTE ones!!!

And HUA is closer to you -- I think-- I bet you can get one of them. Golly, I am glad I am not a groomer there I would have no business!!!

    Dalmations do not need much.

Sorry, I thought you meant they sold them -- it was just so different here. Glad we cleared that one up!

PMosh -- What kind of doggie you looking for? I always have a weakness for a shaggy dog.

My latest dog was a little French bulldog/chow mix he was playing in a 4 lane hwy with an 18 wheeler bearing down the road. I pulled over and got him! He had No tags, nothing ever was placed in the paper or at the shelters. I knocked on the houses all around the area to no avail. So, I kept him. Named him Ozzy.

Rusty was a rescue someone dumped by a grocery store. He was shaggy and dirty. He was also hit in the head and had a lump etc. Poor thing. He taught himself how to open the grocery store door by stepping on the black automatic mat. Then, he walked up to folks and tried to be cute! He rolled around and flirted with people begging for a home. Nobody was impressed so they called Animal control on him. I grabbed him and took him home -- 9 years ago.

The 2 peke's are from peke rescue, named one Murphy and the blk one Cinders. The 5th is a peke/Tibbie who is so precious - her name is Tipper.

Our first dog "Baby" - also a peke just died in October. I'll tell you what, it near killed me-- that dog meant the world to me.... Very sad.

But I just love pets and I am so glad to see all of you loving them as well!

  9. Rottie I love that thing about the dog will be outside, okay inside but not on the furniture...

My husband and I rocked out on it. We sleep in a king sized bed with all 5 dogs!!!!!

Ahhh, pets are great -- must be why butt face Craig made it an edict that we could not have them. He had a way of making our lives -- worse.

    Dot Matrix

  10. HWY Did not know that about the Boston, so then if digging is not an issue I bet it would be a great little family member. Thanks for the info!

Rottie, I was startled to think they sold them. I misunderstood.

I just checked the PEKE rescue and they have some cuties! A little blk and white girl who is cute as a button.

  11. Posh! Wow Petsmart sells dogs in your state? Here Petco and Petsmart only has rescues come in every Saturday and Sunday and set up adoptions.

You can check with some rescues like the Peke rescue will fly one to you at your cost. They have people who are flying and will take one with them it is around $50.00. Now, they have a transport of volunteers to drive them. The dachshonds also have a network where one will drive it so many miles and the next so many miles to get it to you.

This site will also work with you.

Hope this helps. Posh, you probably mean Pet stores will help you, Puppy mills are back yard barns with dirty cages filled with sick and mistreated animals used for breeding. Then, the puppies are taken to the pet store to sell them.

Firebee a cat would be better for you unless you can get two small dogs that can keep each other company, but still 12 hours is too long.

  12. The story Ex on that site is nothing like the movie. Did the meaning change when it was filmed?

For instance when Tommy's mother is in her pristine white room. She sings a song in her not very good Ann Margaret singing voice. Then she throws a bottle at the TV. The TV breaks and weird things start to flow out of it -- like dark liquid and red stuff with white pasta looking things. Mom rolls around in each substance then she grinds her vagina on a huge long pillow shaped like a large long (like 7 feet long) neck roll. Represents a penis?

Do you know why when Tommy finds religion everyone lives in silver pods and he kills his parents?

I dunno - the site tells a story that is not shown in the movie. Someone screwed up the film then.

Zix- I think someone needs to visit the "acid queen" of Tommy to understand the Rocky Horror Picture show. Maybe it was a Victoria Secret promotional as everyone walked around in garters and Merry widowers....

  13. I did not like poodles until I began to groom. They are very smart! Low allergies, they do not shed and they are easy to train.

They do need to be groomed and combed at home. You could get a clipper and keep a 5 blade and do it yourself.

I have changed my mind about the poodle. They are neat little dogs. But you will need to do alot of combing or they will matt.

    Dot Matrix

  14. They are neat dogs. But the bark may have him thrown out of his apartment and you have to keep their "folds" clean as they can smell -- same with a Shar-Pei and a Basset Hound although the Basset has less folds.

But yes, he could get a job hunting down criminals with his blood hound!

Another neat dog is the Japanese Chin and the Tibetian Spaniel. The Tibbie has energy but has great health. The Japenses Chin is a great apartment dog. But again to leave her alone for long periods might bum her out.

Firebee -- can you get two animals?

Socket you may want to look at a Japanese chin they are hearty little dogs as is the Tibbie. But you will need to comb them. The Tibbie does not have fur it has hair. Silky soft hair but it does tangle.

  15. You would like a dog that is lazy. One that does not need to be walked or alot exercise.

You may like a low maintenance dog that does not have big poops as it will be going on the papers while you have a 12 hour day. Most dogs need more attention than that so you may consider a cat. OR a french bull dog does not need much exercise. Their short hair will not need a groomer to cut the hair--. But see if you can get two pets. They will keep each other company. A great small dog is a yorkie but they need lots of attention and a man working 12 hours a day would be cruel for them.

A Basset Hound does not need much exercise, a chow mix is nice as they are loyal and they usually are happy to lay around. I say a mix so you can look for a small version of a chow.

Also check into the habits -- if it is a chewer-- being alone for 12 hours will not be a good thing. I have peke's they are lazy but they like attention. (They never chewed anything they should not have. I also have two chow mixes -- very loyal and lazy as well.) So, you can get two peke's.

  16. Socket:

Pet finder is a great site, if you like.

Here is a picture of the dog my friend is looking for a home.

I will try to insert it-- I suck at this.

If you are interested, e-mail me at Motherbored@bellsouth.net and I will send it.

  17. Now is a great time to check the rescues. People get dogs/cats for Christmas and then they do not want the work. So sad. So many are dumped.

Where I work I groom a dog that was left at 9 months old in a box in the middle of a parking lot. A wonderful dog that someone left in the back yard then moved. Another dog that was rescued as kids tied it to a trash bin and were beating it and throwing rocks at it....

    On it goes.....

Just check with the rescue group on the temperment, some abused dogs do not recover from the fear and do snap. They are better in an all adult home.

I do not know where you are but a friend of mine in Jersey is looking for a home for a black lab that is two years old. It did have a health problem that a holistic vet might be able to clear up.

    Her e-mail is toto@beachin.net

She has people set in place to drive the dog out.

You can do a search for "holistic vets" and find one in your area. That is how I found out about the food problems.
