  1. Si' si',Rockito,I can see it now...Classes run by Senor' (Russell) Senior and that beautiful chaquita Marquita as his assistant...Rise up O hombres of God....
  2. Too bad Rocky and I aren't still in the way doing public exes...All we'd have to do is advertise in Spanish on Telemundo that we'll be handing out green cards for a hundred bucks and they'd be lining up all around the block...Call it each one win Juan...I mean, why settle for citizenship in the U. S. when you can have citizenship in the heavenlies?....Talk about Ephesians 3:20...'exceeding abundantly above all you can ask or think'....Those people'd be so blessed they'd have to ask God to cool it...
  3. Aah,yes....Lightbearers in Des Moira..Canvassers for Christ....Marketers for the 900 promises in God's Word...Agents for more abundance...Purveyors of eternal life..."Let the redeemed of the Lord say,so....and let them say it door-to-door"... Brings to mind a rather pleasant conversation I had with a fella whose wife had fully registered for the PA &FL class that explains Bible contradictions as it develops more harmony in the home...Being fully registered means the wife had paid her $100 minimum required donation for the class ('tho,in all my years,I don't recollect anybody actually donating anything above the minimum required amount)....The husband called me,and our conversation went something like: (Husband): "I think it's wonderful what you young people are doing, and all,but I don't think my wife will really have the time to take your class right now"... (Me): "Well, she seemed pretty eager for the class to start".... (Husband): "Oh,yeah, she can get excited like that, but you know,I think it would be better if she waited; in fact,I'd like to take it with her....just not now"... (Me): "Really?....You wouldn't want to take it with her now?".... (Husband): No,and she doesn't want to take it now,either"... (Me): "Do you think she could call and tell me that,'cuz just this morning----" (Husband): "GIMME BACK MY GODDAMN MONEY!!!!"....
  4. Of course,Lugo has to live with the "If I had fielded that grounder cleanly in the fifth inning, would Schilling have even faced that 28th batter,or would it have been a perfecto?"
  5. My youngest, who just turned 18 last week,is graduating highschool on Wednesday...That means I now have zero dependants,no more curfew on my night life, and am free to go truckin',like the dooh dah man, blessing and visiting our wonderful WOWs on the field...
  6. I more remember his brother,Ken,who anchored third base for the Cards....RIP,Clete....
  7. I loved that video,mstar....That guy even upstaged sweet Lou's tirade Saturday.... I knew the Cubbies have been playing uptight, but I never expected them to start fighting in the dugout...Cubs can't seem to handle the main stage when they're expected to do well...They're something like 0-12 in one run games... I love those managerial rhubarbs with the umps...I think they're good for baseball....I don't know where the custom of kicking dirt originated, but it must look awful silly to the baseball novice...Grown men with good jobs and families---kicking dirt, throwing bases and resin bags, crawling on their belly---playing with dirt---that would be a get of "T's" in the NBA... I guess the league doesn't fine or suspend you if you beat up your own team mate....
  8. You're right,Rock,I don't know where I came up with Mark Lewis...He bounced back well from that collision he had Sunday night... I'm still a little foggy on all the goings on in the pro season...Been working on getting my son through tryouts and such in the community colleges around here and it's a lot of phone messages,no returned calls, people wanting money and so forth....I hate the business end of baseball,sometimes...Jake and I both feel he's good enough to play at the community college level and he'll build up some bulk as well in the next couple of years,so he wants to pursue baseball until every door slams in his face...I tell him it isn't always the most talented, but the most persistant who succeed... Hey stRanger,Sosa's bat still seems pretty lethal down their in Texas....
  9. Yeah, back in those days I really wanted to be an Iozzone layer....Lisa's just now pregnant?....Gosh,what patient people her and her hubs are....
  10. As Rocky said on another thread, the D-backs are on quite a roll---six in a row...They got a guy,Mark Lewis, who just two weeks ago was playing in double-A Memphis, and right now is batting .420 (21-50) in the bigs with three homers and 13 ribbies...Not a bad start in the majors...The other day,he may have had just a slight amount of disappointment when he jacked an 0-2 pitch that just cleared the wall for his second homer of the game...Already having hit a homer, two singles and a triple in the game and needing a double to complete the cycle,he instead had to settle for 13 total bases in five at-bats...I'm sure he'll cope with that ok... On the other hand,I wonder how Armando Benitez of the Giants will cope with his inning from hell against the Mets,or even more specifically, his hellacious meltdown with Carlos Delgado at the plate...After walking Jose Reyes to start the 11th with a one run lead,he balks him to second, and after a sacrifice is an out away from getting out of the inning, and oops---he balks in the tying run from third...How embarrassing, especially with those Jesus Christ so-and-so Mets fans, whom I've despised since 1969,screaming and hollaring wildly at him, being a former Met himself...I wonder if after that balk,he thought something like "Oh Lord,it can't get any worse than this,---just get me outta here quickly"...Fine---How about giving up a walk off homerun to help you forget about balking in the tying run?..... Some guy on Toronto stole home off Andy Pettit today...For the life of me,I can't figure out how that play is ever successful...You hate risking an out with a guy who is already on third....The pitcher can stop his motion any time if he just steps off the rubber....You would seemingly have to catch the whole infield napping...I could see them trying it more often in the NL if there's two outs and the pitcher's up....But it is a cool looking play when it works...
  11. Sudo, that video was hysterical... That Iris looks real nice...I like flowers or butterflies on women, but I don't care for spiderwebs, skulls, daggers, cobras or Bob Marley smokin' a marijuana joint...There's this 40-something new-age lady I know who in the last couple of years got these huge tattoos of some goddess or other on each upper arm and she's always wearing sleeveless dresses....Makes her look too much like a truckdriver...
  12. They play nine innings,Rock, and 162 games a year...You don't want to get too ahead of yourself...Anyway,Zambrano and the bullpen shut 'em down the rest of the way and the Cubs won 6-4...
  13. Well, the Beatles might have been more popular than Jesus, but our Englishman from Nashville named DB was even more popular than Simonzelotes and the four who were crucified with Jesus...May the Lord bless his banjo-pickin' heart...
  14. No,I was out and about,...not smoking in bars and restaurants,as per our new law that went into effect May 1st...
  15. Great story and experience,mstar...I can't imagine too many of today's ballplayers retiring to go cook ribs in a rural barbeque shack...It sounds like ol' George is enjoying life...
  16. Lloyd Pettit would relieve Jack Brickhouse on tv games, usually from like the fifth inning until the 7th inning stretch...He was an exciting hockey announcer for the Blackhawks on both radio and tv,but kinda dull with baseball...Jack Quinlan was the radio announcer that got killed in a car wreck back in '64 or '65...I think all Cubs and Sox games were on the radio in those days, but usually WGN only televised the Cubs and Sox home games, since they rarely played at home at the same time...There was a scheduling quirk where they both played at home at the same time, and WGN tried to flip back and forth and broadcast both games, but with the limited technology in those days,it didn't go over so well...Later on,around 1970,I think,WFLD(UHF channel 32) started broadcasting all of the Sox games, both home and away with the exception of a few west coast series, and WGN started doing the same with all of the Cubs games...
  17. What conversation?...You don't actually believe we're having meaningful conversation,do you?
  18. George,if you think you're so smart, tell me the name of the guy who's place Vince Lloyd took announcing Cub games on WGN radio....The guy was killed in a car crash on his way back to Chicago after a Cardinals series,I believe...And didn't Milo Hamilton do White Sox radio for a number of years on WMAQ?
  19. It looked like there is a quick cameo shot of Keith Moon of the Who near the beginning of the video....
  20. OK...Gee, I never heard of that...I remember as kids we were always short a few gloves(and players, for that matter),and the guys would leave the gloves where they were playing in the field for the other team's guy to use....'Course,we really didn't have positions like shortstop and second base---usually, it was pitcher's hands out,and anything hit to the right of second base,or the cottonwood tree, was a foul,or an out if it was getting dark and you wanted to speed the game up...The umpire was usually the oldest brother,or the biggest kid on the field...
  21. ???????? I musta missed something,'cuz I have no idea what you're talking about here....
  22. Terrible news for the entire baseball community about Josh Hancock, and especially the Cardinals organization...Good God,you throw three innings on a Saturday afternoon and at midnight you're gone...The Cards did the right thing in postponing the game, and 'tho I didn't watch it all,I think ESPN did the respectful thing of having their special SportCenter to fill in the time slot of the Cubs-Cards game that was cancelled instead of some hokey fill-in show... And another wierd occurance on the same day,'tho certainly not tragic....That rookie on Colorado,Tulowitzski, turns the thirteenth unassisted triple plays in major league history....It's strange that unassisted triple plays are about as rare as a pitcher throwing a perfect game.....Yet the perfect game requires a spectacular full game performance by a pitcher along with a flawless performance by the defence...An unassisted triple play,on the other hand, usually is pretty unspectacular...Runners on first and second, nobody out,it helps when the runners are going on a 3-2 pitch, then a nice line drive to the left of the shortstop...Easy catch, and as long as he's moving to his left anyway, might as well step on second so as not to spoil his momentum and---lookie here, the runner on first is standing right there frozen, like I just caught him wearing my bathrobe...Might just as well tag him too... Tulowitzski even went back and tagged second again then threw to first,'cuz he couldn't believe it could be that easy...
  23. Golly,Tom...I haven't been following this as much---but what happened with the Mavs...Didn't they have like 67 wins?...Is GS their natural nemises?
  24. And just how little are these microsurgeons,Nika?...I know some Italians are short, but I didn't know they called their doctors microsurgeons... Reminds me of a story I heard...A guy goes into a bar carrying this foot-tall guy and sets him on the bar...Bartender comes over and the little guy says "give us a couple of beers and make it snappy, you pipsqueak"...Bartender returns with the two beers, the little guy hands him a five and says "give me back all my change,potato-face...Bartender comes back and hands the little guy the change and he runs up and kicks the barkeep right in the chin...Bartender says "That's it!...You're outa here, now beat it!"...Little guy jumps onto the floor, and as he's storming out says to his buddy "You got two minutes to get your a$$ out the door or I'm leaving without you"... So the bartender asks the guy "what's with your little buddy?"...The guy answered: "It's a long story, but the short version is,I was walking down the beach one day,and found a lamp, which,of course,I rubbed...Then this genie came out of it and said he could grant me one wish...So I told him 'I would love to have a 12 inch prick' "....
  25. :B) So,I take it that idle gossip based on founded allegations is to be preferred over idle gossip on unfounded allegations....
