  1. Seemed like it would be a fun place to be stranded if you were planning on hitch-hiking home.... BTW,Miss Nika, how goes it with your health?
  2. Reyoonian?...Who said anything about a reyoonian?...Should we bring our Bibles?...What about corpse notes?...LEAD Boots?...Will seconds be available?...Can we get sponsors,or "spiritual partners" to pay for our air fare?...If so,will we be required to text message them daily about how God is blessing us exceeding abundantly above all that we can ask or think at this reyoonion?...I vote that we have our reyoonion in Truth Or Consequences,New Mexico...
  3. I was thinking that the moderaters should move this thread to it's rightful place, but then I noticed greasespot doesn't have a "National Enquirer" section...
  4. Tough day on those stRanger bats...Sorry,Tom....
  5. If the motor on the Taurus checks out ok,I would also take it to a mechanic to have the front cv joints and transmission checked out...In the later 90's,at least, the Tauruses would have problems with their automatic transmissions...If there is evidence on either car,but especially the Taurus, that the tranny and front cv joints have been replaced.you have a good chance of saving yourself potentially thousands of dollars in not-too-distant-future repairs, considering the mileage of both cars... Whoops....Don't know how I ended up quoting Fellershipper here, but greetings brother in the wonderful name of the Yashladi Yashli Tulsi, whom Victor Paul preacheth...
  6. Listening to LiftedUp talk about the correct way for a team to make an appeal on a call reminded me of a story about Casey Stengel when he was managing the lovably inept 1962 NY Mets... Seems that one of the long-on-zeal but short-on-style Mets batters drilled a line drive to the right-center field gap in a 1962 game...Nearly swallowing his chewing tobacco flying around the bases, the batsmen stood a-huggin' third, thinking he had legged out a stand-up triple...That is,until the other team properly exercised an appeal at second base, claiming the batter never touched it on his way to third...The second base umpire ruled "Out!",which prompted Casey to come charging out of the dugout to argue the call with the ump---until he was stopped by his own first base coach, who told Casey:"Don't bother,...he never touched first base either"....
  7. Good points lifted...Wierd thing was, both close plays were potential game enders...And in fact,I brought up exactly what you did when the game ended---how does the other team appeal the play?...Their team stayed on the field as their manager argued with the blue, but the ump never told our guys to put another batter in the box...And our team didn't offer to because as far as we were concerned, the game was over...Shouldn't the ump have made us put a batter in the box,let them do their appeal properly(pitcher throw to third before the next pitch) then called the guy safe if that was how he saw it?...As it were, the other team was even denied an appeal....Doesn't sound right to me...How would you have handled it?
  8. I haven't gotten too much into the pro season yet 'cuz it's still a little early to figure who's going to be hot and not,and I've been savoring my son's last year of highschool ball... Yesterday,my kid's game was a real donnybrook against their arch-rivals...I arrived a half-hour late and we were already down 8-0 with one out in the top of the first...By the time our boys finally came to bat they were in an 11-0 hole...I don't know what their manager(ex-'69 Cubs backup catcher,Ken Rudolph) possibly could have told them when he congregated with them after finally getting out of the first, other than "keep your head in it","have good at bats","it ain't over 'til it's over" yadda,yadda...We did manage to get three runs in the bottom of the first but then they scored three more to make it 16-3..Suddenly, their starting pitcher couldn't get anybody out,and they brought in a reliever who couldn't hit the ocean from the beach, and he either walked or hit batters with the bases loaded to bring the score up to 16-10...A few doubles and triples later we tied it at 16-16 in the last inning, and should have won it then, but the blue called our winning run out at the plate for the third out, which almost got the coaches and half the team thrown out arguing the call... They scored three runs in the top of the eighth, and we countered with three runs of our own...That's when I yelled out "first one up to 20,wins"...In our half of the ninth, bases loaded sac fly,I watched as our man on third left the base slightly early, and slid safely under the tag...Blue either missed it,or it was payback for the earlier call, but nonetheless,we won 20-19,and now we're tied with them for first place in the region....My boy got a few key hits and hit about a 400 foot bomb that veered fow-ull,as Jon Miller would say.... Ok,back to your regularly scheduled program....
  9. I didn't know until this year that the forty days of the Lenton season where designed to purify us for the opening of baseball season... Sorry to hear about your announcer,Miller...I confess,I never heard him,but he must have been good to be on the job for 45 years...Since you're quite the yeoman when it comes to posting vids and such here, maybe you could link a little blurb of him on the job---I would have liked to have heard him... I didn't really throw a big bash this year and get all dressed up for Opening Day,...didn't buy anybody any presents or go to Mass---just had a quiet dinner of Ballpark Franks and Pepsi-cola with the family...My only disappointment was that the first game was a night game between the Cards and the Mets...I'm sorry,--and I know---I'm a traditionalist, but I still want the first pitch of the baseball season to be thrown on a Monday afternoon in Cincinatti....Can't MLB leave some traditions intact?....When I was watching the Cards-Mets game, they kept running a ticker under the screen that B-Bonds hit two homers that day and now has 7---in the preseason!!?? Meanwhile,on the same day,a game that counts is being played...Who in the hell thinks up this stuff, anyway?
  10. Bless me Father for I have sinned,it has been three days since my last post...LEAD's not over, nor will it ever be Mr. Sonofthemaster...Rocky and I learned---that when a 500 pound rock is falling on you from up above, and the Lord tells you to jump--you don't ask "how high?",...you just jump.... I didn't encounter any reptiles on my du-lo,but I heard Tom Tuttle had a one-eyed snake spit at him in his hootch....
  11. What was wrong with us?...I can't tell you but my life changed in Tinney,New Mexico...There I was,on the bottom of this mountain, and I was what?...That's right!...Electrified!...And it was a beautiful spring day when I shut my eyes tightly and went to sleep on my solo(actually,'duo' is the more appropriate term)....When I woke up and opened my eyes, the snow was so thick as I peered out my sleeping bag,I couln't see the gas pumps next to the yellow school bus at the filling station not more than ten miles away...That's when Father spoke to me audibly, just as audibly as I'm cyber-speaking to you right now...He told me he'd teach me the Word, like it hadn't been taught since the roaring twenties,if I would never preach another negative sermon on the sins of drinking and alcoholism and so forth... You know what I did?...I got up,patted myself on the back and nearly broke mah ba-hand patting myself on the back, put my hands in my pocket and said "I can lick any man in town,tonight!"...What would you say a thorn,or a prick in the flesh is?
  12. ....Just so long as you and Rocky ride in separate cars...
  13. I saw him pitch on tv Sunday and he got lit up like a Vegas slot machine in relief---gave up 3 runs in one inning I think.....My gut opinion is that he and the Cubbies are just not a good match... BTW,how do you like my yellow WOWmobile?
  14. Son of Sam,...don't let Tomstrange's reference to me as simontheloaded mislead you...He's referring to holy spirit with a small 'h' and a small 's'...Why sometimes over here we even pray in the holy spirit into the meeting... The family's doing well--thanks for asking...Micah's made me my own grampa about six years ago...Too bad you're still not working the chillen's camp so's I could send the little imp your way for a couple of weeks...I loved those mornings at Gunnison--our own electric coffee percolator in that little trailer that slept about 14...
  15. One thing I miss about living in Chicagoland is that even if there were snow flurries blowing around on opening day---oops--forgot to capitalize it---Opening Day---,it was an Holy Day,...a good day,...an indication that the bleak, depressing winter had ended, and new hopes and dreams lied in wait for the summer ahead....Even though,by the time opening day ended, the Cubs would revert to their annual motto of 'wait 'til next year',it wasn't all about the wins and the losses, but relaxing and enjoying that part of life that went beyond the drudgery of day-to-day responsibilities... I suppose living in Arizona, being quite the Spring Training mecca,as well as having year round baseball weather,I've kind of taken Opening Day for granted...But I am anticipating another good season, and I'm sure as more things start happening on the diamond, there will be more to talk about... I did take a road trip with my brother a couple of weeks ago,to Bisbee,Arizona and came across an old ballfield that was built in 1908!....It had burned down and been rebuilt, but was still standing and was currently being used by the highschool for it's baseball team...Lessee if the pics come out...
  16. Well, glory halleluah,I see that the Lord God Almighty has finally blessed us with new fruit on this here 9th corpse thread...It's about freakin' time...All it took was a little touch of the Masterson's hand...Nice to have you,W & W,we were getting tired of prayer, announcements, manifestations and singin' Camping in Canaan's Happy Land...
  17. Well,If I'm going to be part of a collective group that is going to be singled out for any kind of blame for something,I guess it would be good to know what I'm exactly being blamed for....If we're going to blame the way corps collectively,we'd have to assume that everyone who ever followed the way was collectively worse off because they joined...While the collective opinion at greasespot may be that twi was all bad and did little more than hurt people, that isn't a universally shared belief by every follower or former follower of the way... I won't get into the specifics, but I suppose in my way corpse years I thought of myself as being part of some sort of fountain of living waters, and at the time I believed anybody and everybody's life could be improved by involving themselve's in way teachings...As it became clearer that the way was just another broken sistern, then it was time to move on...Let people find their own truth...There are people who I led that are happily involved in offshoots or in their own cozy, peaceful Christian existence somewhere---should I tell them I'm sorry for helping screw up their lives? While I don't doubt that every ex-follower of the way was at some point disappointed in or by the ministry and therefore left or were kicked out,I don't believe that 'disappointed' equals 'hurt'...
  18. Happy earthday and birthday to you stRangeon!!! May the God and Father of the Texas Rangers bless you mightily this day and keep you in the hallow of his Holy Mitt....
  19. Well good,Lord, don't leave us in suspense...what was the topic you wanted to start?....Maybe you should have just started it anyway and put it in the baseball forum and the Moderator would have moved into the correct CES forum for you...

    I'm Dying

I hope this is a very warm and enjoyable holiday for you,George,...as much as can be expected... I talked to my daughter this morning, who's in New York and will be turning 23 in January, and I thought of your daughter...We talked about this creepy guy at her work, how her cat is doing that she drafted me to adopt and how global warming has turned New York City into a 50 degree day on Christmas Eve...Important stuff...To her and to me,anyway....

    I'm Dying

George,...for what it's worth, thank you for your post....It is news that we all hate to hear,...yet it is the reality of things---life and death...I could not begin to fathom what you are going through...Yet,somehow I feel,---I guess I could use the word 'honored', to be part of the extended family that you have chosen to bear the the depths of your soul with...In sharing your lot,as you have, there seems to be nothing left to hide behind---nothing else to any longer be afraid of....There are people I have been acquainted with my entire life that I feel I don't know as well as I now know you...Your choosing to reveal your fate to us has left us with revelations that few ever get to see... I suppose after the shock subsides a little, perhaps some will engage in normal every day discussion around here with you--maybe it will be therapeutic, even though most anything seems trivial about now...Should you choose to toss anything in the way of your heart or feelings,or just what you happen to be thinking about on a particular day out here,I,for one, hope I can interject even a little something--anything,to brighten your day a little...
  23. As a matter of fact, we can! It's a bit chilly today, but the air is clear enough to see the mountains (only about two miles away). (posted by Rocky and Zelotes)

I know a girl who worked as a Camel cigarette distributor...Then after trying real hard she got a job as a Budweiser distributor because it paid more money...Eventually,she hopes to move up to guns and, finally, get exclusive rights to be the state distributor for Dr. Kevorkian's suicide machine... Steppenwolf never sang the song "Goddamn the liquor salesman"...It's interesting how public perception of something changes because one thing is legal and the other is not....Because there is no Prohibition, purveyers of alcoholic beverages no longer have to kill eachother for control of a particular territory like the mobsters used to...As far as society and the law are concerned, the end user(drinker) is the person who carries the responsibility for it's use or abuse...With illegal drugs, while the user is certainly looked down upon,...the dealer is known as a 'pusher'----the evilest of all bad guys---In the meantime the Super bowl is laden with commercials of the coolest people on earth having the time of their lives with a Bud Lite in their hands...Makes you think about the true definition of 'pusher'.... One of the reasons alcoholics seem to be growing in number is because liquor is so cheap and accessable...A person can live in a flophouse next door to a 7-11 and for ten bucks a day,or so,get a good daily dosage of rotgut liquor or a few 40-ouncers and live in a daily euphoric, stupefying bliss...An addiction to alcohol seems to sneak up on a person much slower than addictions to most illegal drugs...Or maybe it just seems that way to the addict... Any alcohol or drug addiction is a crutch, and then some,...so if one is worried about AA being a crutch, then so be it,I would think it would be an improvement...Nevertheless,eventually the addict will need to address his need,or desire for a crutch in the first place...I'm sure the 12 steps can be very helpful...I guess my question would be if they were a way of life or a means to an end...
  25. That was very intriguing and very well written...Thanks for sharing that,Weout....
