How many faces are in this painting?
  4. Here's another one for your interest...............If you were living in Los Angeles a hundred years ago: You would take the streetcar to work. You would work six days a week. If you were a blank clerk you would work Saturday nights. If you were really really lucky you might get a week's paid vacation. A cop could arrest you on suspicion and then try to figure out what to charge you with. You could be arrested for speaking to a crowd without a permit. You could get 2 years in the clink for stealing seven cents from a church poor box. You could take your whole family swimming in fresh mineral water. If you were a teacher you couldn't get married and keep your job unless you were a man.
  5. Shaz, here's an excerpt from the book...............can't get the page for you, but here is the web site www.okinawaprogram.com/ When the authors were doing their study on these people their first conclusion was it had to be genetics, but later found out it was what they ate and their way of life, some of the young people were leaving the island and adapting the western way of life and were succumbing to the same dieases that we in the western world deal with. ]
  6. Hi Shaz, the reason I found it so interesting, is today even though the life expectancy is 76.8, we have dieases that are the leading causes of death that nobody even heard of back then. I've been reading a book you might find interesting, called "The Okinawa Program" how the world's longest-lived people achieve everlasting health. it's absolutely facinating!!! Cowgirl
  7. Back in 1905..... The average life expectancy was 47 years. Only 14% of the homes in the US had a bathtub. There were only 8,000 cars in the US and only 144 miles of paved roads. The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower. The average wage in the US was 22 cents an hour. The average US worker made between $200 and $400 per year. A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year. More than 95% of all births took place at home. Sugar cost 4 cents a pound. Eggs were 14 cents a dozen. Coffee was 15 cents a pound. Most women only washed their hair once a month and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo. Crossword puzzles, canned beer and iced tea hadn't been invented. There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day. Two of 10 US adults couldn't read or write. Only 6% of all Americans had graduated high school. Marijuana, heroin and morphine were all available over the counter at corner drugstores. Eighteen percent of households in the US had aleast one full-time servant or domestic. And the one I find the most interesting...... The three leading causes of death in the US were: 1. Pneumonia and influenza 2. Tuberculosis 3. Diarrhea

  13. I'm tickled pink that you guys like it, I don't have as much snow as you do Jonny, but I think after last night and today (big snow storm)and it was way too cold to walk the kids to school today, I've had enough winter!! So now I'm gearing up for spring! , Linda Z, the song is called "Down in Mary's Land" by Mary Chapin Carpenter, I've been looking high and low for the chords to it to play on my mandolin but couldn't find anything so a real neat thing happened just the other day from my search. I had to take a cab and low and behold the cab driver happened to be a guitar player and instructor for 17 years. I asked him about the song and he did say it was a very difficult one to get the chords for unless you buy the book, he works at a little music store here in town and said if I come down to the shop he would figure out the song on his guitar and give me the chords for it!!! Too cool eh!!! Rottie Girl, I am pretty much computer illiterate except for posting pictures so I asked my daughter to do the music for me. Cowgirl
  14. Regardless of how tough the winter may seem, here is something to look forward to........... Cowgirl

  16. Hi y'all, thanks for responding!! I was on my way back to Canada just after I had started the thread so I couldn't answer back right away! I've come up with the same sites but I'll continue until I find it! Thanks all for looking into it! DMiller, that is the title of the song, Mstar1, I came across that site and it's too complicated for me to figure out, Socks, if I can have both I'll take both! Cowgirl
  17. Howdy, I'm trying to find the guitar tabulature to the song "Down in Mary's Land" by Mary Chapin Carpenter, if any of you country music fans could find it for me, I would so appreciate it!!! Cowgirl
  18. I carried the Olympic torch in the 1976 Olympics. My favourite songs are still "Take it Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling" by the Eagles and "Too Busy Being in Love' by Doug Stone. I have never smoked a cigarette in my life. My favourite treat are orange popsicles. I love music so much that if I could I would have music playing everywhere I went and in everything I do, in fact if I would have speakers up on every post as I walked down the street so I could enjoy it.......country music that is! If I find a song on a CD that I really like I press on the repeat button and just let it play over and over for a whole day while driving the people around me crazy. My favorite scent is "White Musk" I love anything made out of pine. Lace curtains, wild flowers, weeping willows and fireplaces I love to wallpaper and I'm pretty good at it. I used to own a banjo and play it a bit but I sold it at a pawn shop for the money so I could go out and purchase 2 new pairs of Nike running shoes. Cowgirl
  19. I go barefoot in my cowboy boots even in the winter! I love smoked oysters! When I was growing up I used to hate chocolate ice cream and the color purple, I was a fan of Donny Osmond and I found out those were his two favourites so I forced myself to like them because he did. I rode across the United States on a motorcycle. I'm a leftie ! Before I ran, I used to be a gymnast I rarely brush my hair, I like the messy (wild) look, (thank god, Goey does too!) My dream job would either be a wall muralist (kids murals) or a photographer! Cowgirl
