Offline Hard Drive

I have numerous threads, posts, papers, personally transcribed tapes, teachings, etc. from WayDale, GSpot, STS tapes, etc. that I'd like to keep in a central location I can reach from anywhere without having to search through beaucoup CDs, computers etc......

I'm on a Mac now and my .doc files don't open on it - it's a pain to clean off my desk so I can get to my pc and wade through stacks of CDs trying desperately not to scratch them in order to access the files. I don't see myself as using pc at home unless absolutely necessary and work is more and more difficult since the network nazi and I don't always see eye to eye.

Anyone know of the best, cheap (preferably "free") way to do this?

Thanks much!!

Well, best I know for what you want to do is to have an external hard drive.

I have one of these. Also, keep in mind that I am a hard core computer geek with 4 internal drives (including a solid state drive - lighting fast) 1 external drive, usually 3 or more operating systems - use mostly linux, I admin a server with a groupware suite allowing me a virtual office from anywhere, plus my house is hard wired with cat5 ethernet. So, i can discuss other options too.

as for doc files grab Word for Mac

or better yet, give openoffice for mac a whirl.

Feel free to private message me with questions.
