Why is my Web site constantly down?

Raf,

The pic is pointing to http://www.livingepistlessociety.org/ And the link Raf is pointing to http://www.rafaelolmeda.com/

Since the pic is pointing to livingepistlessociety web page, that may be why it's not showing up. The url needs to redirect to an actual image file.

Hope that helps

Raf,

I've been having more downtime trouble with these folks in the past 2-3 months, as well as tech support trouble. For one thing, they have their offices located in Costa Rica, where their phone systems are notorious for experiencing problems. Also, they seem to have an unsatisfatory track record in dealing with the Better Business Bureau in dealing with customers. I myself have had a few hair-pulling sessions with them. Plus, since they seem to be on the out-sourcing out of the country side of things, that doesn't exactly ring positive to me.

Folks, the web hosting firm I speak of is FreeHostingWeb.net, and I'm seriously thinking of switching hosts around the end of the year when my domain name with them expires. Raf, I suggest you think about doing the same, if you don't want to continue experiencing these kinds of problems. They used to be really good at tech support and uptime. No longer, it seems.

The next firm I deal with had better have a glowing report with the BBB, as well as have a good reputation as a whole, even if it means paying a little extra. To me, its worth it.

JSN, the bumper sticker picture IS an actual image file. Rafael has set it up as a hot spot, so that you can click on it and it will take you to www.livingepistlessociety.org. That pic just happens to live at that website. It's simple HTML code, really. If you right click on the picture, then click properties, you will see

Thanks Steve, I didn't check the the properties, I just clicked. I forgot about hotspots.

Raf - Nevermind me

Sure, you may have a few minor problems, but think of all the money they save by putting their tech support off shore!

How's their stock price doing these days?

Speaking of which, you're using the communist software Linux and Apache, comrade. icon_razz.gif:P-->

As far as web hosts go, if you were to want to have a group of people go in together and set up a web hosting business, I would suggest John Companies. http://www.johncompanies.com/ They're really good and I know a lot of people that use them. They're expensive, but they are specifically for high traffic sites and web hosting businesses. They also run FreeBSD, which comes from the same great organization as LSD.

Raf,

The software that P-mosh is referring to is the server software that your web hosting uses to run the servers that hold the web sites.

Speaking of which, Linux and Apache themselves are very solid performers, so whatever downtime interruptions that you and I are experiencing must wither be because of faulty hardware, or its because of the screwy phone system in Costa Rica, thanks to 'putting their tech support off shore!' Looking forward to the day when I move my whole site over to an **All-American** company!

Great. Now not only are MY sites down, but Garth's site is down and the web page for the company we complain to is down as well.

My 7th grade grammar teacher would kill me over that last sentence, but I simply don't care. icon_smile.gif:)-->

Post Script:

Let's see, that meltdown lasted about 30 minutes. Dem Bums.

Have you ever thought about getting a reseller account? Then you can get one plan and chop them up into several accounts. Even charge people for webspace, to pay off your plan. Most resellers come with a Web Host manager to make it easy.

You have to be extremely careful of some of these hosts though. A lot of them resell servers, and are just kids. They get overwhelmed and can't get enough help.

If you go here, you can ask around for who the best webhost providers there are.

That's where I found mine. It's been nearly a year, and I haven't had so much as an hour downtime. Plus they keep up on the latest server software.

They are a bit more costly, but they have HUGE support. The best I have had in a long time.

In the case of webhosts, the higher expense is better. BTW......these guys are resellers.
