Chas that sounds really good! Thanks for posting it. I'm going to look for the Italian mix and do the add ins like you mentioned. Belle I like Rachel too. Her enthusiam helped rescue me from fast food - frozen dinner hell It's so true what she says about the stuff that's added in that crapola and you don't have any control over it. I think it's the idea that it can really be done in a short amount of time that helped encourage me. Sometimes when I come home from work I'm dragging so to be able to have some quick fix ideas is great.
  2. Excie girl I'm sorry to hear you had a bad day yesterday and hope today is way mo better! Also I hope everybody survived black friday. I stayed home and did a major chill out I've got a bunch of stuff to do today to make up for yesterday's idleness but I figure I won't sweat the small stuff. I hope everybody had a great turkey day!!! I'm going to join Nika in the kitchen and try to dance off some of the holiday eating I did Bye all
  3. Psalmie, I don't always cook that way but I did do a very simple little throw together thing lately. I had about a cup of leftover restaurant marinara sauce. The next day I was looking at it trying to figure out what to do with it and I was craving soup. I remembered I had some leftover chicken stock and some half and half in the frig. Well I put these 3 things in a pot, warmed it then stuck an emersion blender into it. It made GREAT creamy tomato soup! Who knew?? I only added a little salt and pepper to it because a lot of the seasoning was already in the marinara. I think I'm going to really enjoy this thread

Hey there Cool One Here is a Rachael Ray recipe that is absolutely delicious! I substituted turkey sausage for the italian and you need to cook it a bit longer than the recipe says. I think she cooked the lentils separately so that decreased the cooking time. I just copied the recipe off of foodnetwork.com. Hungarian Sausage and Lentil Soup 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, 2 turns of the pan 1 1/2 pounds bulk hot Italian sausage 3 cloves garlic, chopped 1 medium onion, chopped 2 portobello mushrooms, gills scraped out, chopped 1 cup pre-shredded carrots, available in sacks in produce department of the market 1 cup lentils 1 large starchy potato, peeled and chopped Salt and pepper 1 bay leaf, fresh or dried 2 teaspoons smoked paprika (or substitute a mix of 2 teaspoons cumin, 1 teaspoon sweet paprika and 2 pinches cayenne pepper) 3 sprigs fresh rosemary, in tact on stems 1 (14-ounce) can fire roasted chopped tomatoes, such as Muir Glenn or, regular diced tomatoes 6 cups chicken stock 4 cups kale or chard, a small bunch, veins removed and chopped Heat a medium soup pot over medium high heat. Add extra-virgin olive oil, 2 turns of the pan, then add sausage to pot and brown and crumble it, then add garlic, onions and mushrooms. Cook a few minutes, then add carrots, lentils, potato, salt and pepper, bay leaf, paprika or substitute mixture and rosemary (leaves will fall from stems as stoup cooks). Add tomatoes and broth and cover pot then raise heat to high and bring to a boil. Uncover pot and place heat back a bit but keep stoup at a good rolling boil. Cook 15 minutes until lentils and potatoes are tender. Wilt in greens in small bunches, remove rosemary stems and turn off heat. Let stand 5 minutes. Serve in shallow bowls with bread and butter to mop up stoup. Reheat leftovers thinning it with broth or water. I hope you get a chance to try this. I made it for some folks and with a rebel yell they cried "more more more" :)

  7. Here's a quick "children say the darndest things" for you. A friend's three year old daughter had diarrhea (poor dear). While in the bathroom she yells out to her mother "Mommy mommy, I'm peeing out of my butt. Hope you're enjoying these stowries. Simonzztop, please feel free to edit this. Also, (Bullinger) do you think Mellowlipper is on a walk about with his bride??
  8. Regarding Goldie, I think there's a new kind of makeup out there that contains some form of spackeling (sp?) in it that fills wrinkles. Man I wish I'd invented something like that. The inventor is probably making big $$$. I am of the opinion we are like a fine wine and the older we get the more we should get uncorked In the words of our beloved Excie, Mwah all :)
  9. Dearest Excie girl, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY I am so sorry this is late. I was at work when I saw your birthday announced but couldn't remember my password to log on from work to send my greetings to you :( . By the time I got home oldheimers set in Got a quick b-day stowry for you. A friend's 5 year old made a b-day card for yours truly and meant to write on the card "Your the best" but instead wrote "Your the beast". Kids are so cute! Love you girl
  10. Thanks Engine, Jardinero and Jonny for your replies. I too was in the 10th corp. One time while we were in residence Kevin asked me if I'd like to be prayer partners. I said sure then he suggested getting together at 4 a.m.!! I had to decline as I didn't think I'd be able to keep the commitment. He sure loved God and was great to be around. Thanks again!

Goode Deep down in Louisiana, close to New Orleans Way back up in the woods among the evergreens There tood an old cabin made of earth and wood Where lived a country boy named Johnny B. Goode Who never ever learnt to read or write so well But he could play a guitar just like a ringing bell Go go! Go Johnny, go, go. Go Johnny, go, go. Go Johnny, go, go Go Johnny, go, go. Johnny B. Goode He would carry his guitar in a gunny sack Sit beneath the tree by the railway track Engineer calling, he'd stop in the shade Striumming to the rhythm that the driver made People passing by they would stop and say Boy that little country boy can play Go go! Go Johnny, go, go. Go Johnny, go, go. Go Johnny, go, go Go Johnny, go, go. Johnny B. Goode (Guitar Solo) Well his mother told him someday you will be a man And you will be the leader of a big old band Many people coming from miles around To hear you play your music till the sun goes down And someday maybe your name will be in lights Saying "Johnny B. Goode Tonight" Go go! Go Johnny, go, go. Go Johnny, go, go. Go Johnny, go, go Go Johnny, go, go. Johnny B. Goode Go go! Go Johnny, go, go. Go Johnny, go, go. Go Johnny, go, go Go Johnny, go, go. Rocky Balboa, thinking of you every day and hope all is well! Today while reading through this tread of all ages I was listening to the doobie bros greatest hits. Keeds, you make me cry.
