  1. post-1257-1192564610_thumb.jpg

This is Whitney. And yes, she has has been more than many 17 year-olds, and that will only make her stronger.

Again thanks and keep those prayers happening.

Suda, I feel so much better after you explained it to me. I thought they were just giving up on her.

Are we still on for Friday nite at Salsa???? We will be there and ready for some super great Mexican food!!!

  2. Thanks again, everyone. I talked to Whitney yesterday and she said that her mom would be evaluated Thursday and may be sent home due to their not being able to help her anymore than what they have. I don't really understand. She has only been in rehab since last Monday.

Whitney is supposed to be in the Miss Teen pageant next month on the state level, I believe as it is in KY. A big college scholarship is one of the prizes. I would like to ask for prayers for that also. A friend has volunteered to take Whitney to the pageant and Jerry has given his approval for her to go with her friend if they can't go as a family. That is a BIG step for Jerry to let Whitney go without them.

They could really use that scholarship. Whitney has been home schooled all except her kindergarten year, if I am not mistaken. She is exceptionally bright and has won lots of speech awards on the state level. Even as a child, she has been able to carry on conversations in an adult manner. She would look at the judges when she gave her speeches and also talk to them after the competition. That in itself impressed the judges.

    edited to correct spelling error

  3. Scout,

Lefty and family are in my prayers. My sister-n-law suffered a brain aneurysm recently and she is now in rehab. She is 51 also, but will be 52 next month.

This is a tough time for Lefty's family making decisions that one shouldn't have to make for a 51-yr old. God bless each of them.

  4. Someday I will show Shirley the dog and boy praying. She loves animals.

My mom's birthday dinner/family reunion went well. ONLY 31 people instead of the 40 that I was expecting.

I just got home from visiting Shirley in the Rehab. She is still having short term memory problems and some long term also.

She is getting stronger every day, but they still have her in the canopy bed. She even sat up in a chair for a while today. Jerry, Whitney, Glenn (another brother) and 2 of his kids all went somewhere to eat, so Darla, Glenn's wife, and I stayed with Shirley. Before they went to eat, Jerry asked her the time.

She could not tell the time correctly. Jerry asked her how long they have been married as their anniversary was this month. She couldn't remember. So Jerry said that they were married 17 years before Whitney was born, and now Whitney is 17. So she said, "well, 17 times 2" but she couldn't multiply it.

I asked her if she thought she might want to knit while she was in rehab. And she said she would like to, so we will have to see about that. Knitting a simple scarf might be good for her in many ways.

Thanks again for the prayers and the good wishes.

  5. W and W,

I have read this story with great interest and concern as my sister-n-law just had a brain aneurysm removed as many have seen in the prayer thread.

I almost cried reading about Liz and how no one helped her or anything. My heart goes out to her and I am so thankful that you have found out that she is alive and is still married.

I wish for you and Liz the VERY BEST reunion that can happen on this earth.

Thank you for having the guts to post this.

    Waysider, I am sorry too.

I have things that someday I would like to share but I just can't do it at this time. It is amazing how memories come back when reading stories like this.

There is a day of reckoning, I believe that with all my heart.

  6. Thanks Suda for Mom's birthday wish. I will tell her.

Mary Ann (my sister) spent the nite with Shirley so that Jerry and Whitney could go home and get some rest and shower, etc.

Mary Ann said that Shirley only had 2 Tylenol all nite. Today Shirley goes to PT, OT, and speech therapy, so she will have a busy and exhausting day, and may sleep tonite. They have a canopy on her bed to protect her as she was agitated when she first arrived.

They had brought Shirley's breakfast when I was talking to M.A. Shirley said she would rather have a chocolate long john and coffee than the cereal and pancakes that they brought her!!!! My kind of woman!!

Also, I forgot to tell you all this cute story. Sunday while she was still in the regular room, the TV was on and Josh Turner was on. He is gorgeous and has a cool song called Firecracker. Shirley mentioned that he is SOOOOOOO CUTE and she loved his Firecracker song!!!

my little darlin is a firecracker

    Chorus:

We might not ought to take a roll in the hay

cause we'd burn the barn down one of these days

were a match made in heaven

    and it aint no joke.

but Id sure I hate to see it go up in smoke

we got a good thing going

    and it feels so right

    shes a firecracker

shes the light of my life.

she goes off with a great big BANG

boys I tell ya its a beautiful thing

she takes off you better hang on tight

    shes a blonde bottle rocket

in the middle of the night

when she makes love shes a Heart attacker

Sing with the song of Josh Turner, Firecracker lyrics!

  7. Shirley may be in rehab from 2 weeks to one month. My sister met her new doctor tonite. Mary Ann called a few minutes ago with an update. Shirley can still read. She has been walking up and down the hall, etc. Jerry and Whitney stayed with her the past couple days while she was in the regular room, but went home when she was checked into rehab. She was hot and took all her clothes off and walked down the hall, TWICE, so they have had to continue staying with her at nite and almost all the time.

Still don't know about the drain.

I am having about 40 people at my house Saturday so I have been busy preparing for that, plus watching my 4-month old grand nephew, Isaiah, plus working at hubby's shop, and doing ebay, so I haven't been to the hospital since Sunday. My aunt and cousin are coming in from Ft. Myers and it is my mom's birthday Saturday so we are having a birthday celebration/family reunion. We will certainly miss Shirley's green beans, banana salad and angel food cake that she always brought to our family gatherings.

The picture that I posted of Shirley was taken last year at my mom's 80th surprise party that Shirley helped me pull off. She is such a nice, sweet person.

Thanks again for all the posts and prayers. Each one of you put a smile on my face each time I read your posts. :redface2:

  8. Notta, was Sus@n's name Pr@tt in 1977? I have a Susan that signed the back of the picture with a last name of Pr@tt. I am sure that is her. Yeah on that blonde hair and she looked the same in 2002. Some people don't change alot!!

Tom, I knew I had read somewhere about a GSer that had been to New Harmony. Thanks for letting me know it was you. That is a super nice place. Someday hubby and I want to spend the weekend there. Cousin and aunt will be here this week. About 40 people will be at my house this Saturday if all goes as planned as my sister-n-law is in hospital which is why I have not been posting much lately. Plus I am watching my 4 month old nephew at our shop on Monday and Wednesday. Hubby is holding him right now!!

Ca dreaming, those panaramic pictures will sell good on ebay if you ever want to get rid of them.

  9. I appreciate the words of encouragement and the continued prayers. Hubby, my mom, and I drove over this afternoon. Shirley looks alot healthier, and her gorgeous thick hair is growing back where they shaved part of her head. She is remembering some things but not others. She remembered that someone had been to visit her but could not remember that it was my sister. The nurse came in later and asked her where she was and she was able to tell her.

She is getting up and going to the bathroom with assistance.

I forgot to ask Jerry if they did the other cat scan today or if it is tomorrow. She is supposed to be moved to rehab tomorrow but I think that would be contingent on whether or not they have to place a permanent drain.

  10. Just got home from the hospital. Shirley is in a regular room!!!! The drain tube is gone!!! They will be doing another cat scan tomorrow or Monday. Can't remember what day Jerry said. Shirley is still having trouble with short-term memory, but long-term memory is very good!!

Jerry was cutting up her fried chicken and helping her eat and I said "That's a switch isn't it, Shirley, Jerry helping you!!??" and she shook her head!!! Jerry has been very attentive and I am proud of him. She has waited on him hand and foot for about 34 years.

I think she will be moved to rehab Monday.

At one point, she thought we were all at my house and that someone was in my garage. Whitney told her that we weren't at my house but in the hospital and she said "oh"!!

She looks alot stronger than she did Thursday nite when I was there.

Thanks so much to all of you for your continued prayers. They have a long way to go!!

  11. Just got home from the hospital. Got to see Shirley. She has very little short-term memory. She had been awake much of the day so she was very tired. She did not open her eyes but did respond some when Jerry or Whitney asked her questions.

They did another cat scan today and there is no change. Dr. was going to take the drain tube out but decided against it, but may take it out tomorrow. She will be in ICU for 4 more days then will go directly to Rehab, unless something changes.

She has lost so much weight.

Thanks again for the prayers and the sweet responses.

    We all appreciate it.

  12. Yesterday Shirley was confused. I guess this is typical, I don't know. The doctor had not been there before I left last nite.

Please forgive me for not acknowledging each post. I have read them and appreciate them so much. I tell my brother everytime I see him about this thread. He has told other people about it, too. So it means alot to him and Whitney.

Thanks again to each of you.

  13. All that sounds great. Diversification is good.

Keep plugging away and things will work out.

Do you have any way items that you want to sell? The old stuff (before 1985) brings in big bucks. Just a thought.

Will keep praying for you and your family.

  14. Please keep praying!! Shirley has been 'unresponsive' today. She has not opened her eyes or talked. Jerry & Whitney will get to see her at 8:30 tonite so I am praying that she will be better. They are weaning her off morphine so maybe that has something to do with it??? The doctor was in first thing this morning and had said things were going well.

Thanks again to each of you for your prayers.

    Happy Birthday, Sudo!!!

Thank you for being a dentist and helping your patients with their dental needs.

Since moving back home, I now go to the dentist that I had before. He encouraged me every time I had my teeth cleaned to get braces and to have the TMJ surgery. I tell him every time I get my teeth cleaned how thankful that I am that he did that. I had good insurance and vacation time and was YOUNG!!!

So, from me and my teeth to you:

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!
