Socks--------Thanks for the info re: The Snake. Having switched to harp some time ago, I feel like I'm in the dark sometimes on special effects although the Echoplex reference as well as delay give me lots of food for thought. I don't know why more harp players don't use the effects that you axe guys do but I'm trying to expand my horizons. I have seen Paul deLay as well as Carey Bell use them quite effectively. BTW-----I blow through a Pignose G40V which was designed as a guitar amp. It has 2 6L6s, 3 12AX7s and areal beefy 10" speaker. No special effects so I take it sparingly through a Danelectro Corned Beef (reverb) and a Chili Dog (octave).I'm trying to get back to guitar a little more but the old car-pool tunnel slows me down sometimes. Kind of makes me wonder if that's not the real origin of bottleneck guitar.

Belle -------while I agree the results of door to door were small, you must factor in the cost to TWI. What's that you say, it cost them nothing? Now there's an advertsing expense to be sought after!

Visit a PAINT store for advise on cleaning and finishing. Visit a hardware store for advise on patching. Let them know how you plan to finish the surface. I personally have had much better results with concrete STAIN than with paint because it does not react to water as adversely as paint.

Learn to skate( take the class). ------WHAT DID PFAL TEACH?-------Well, it consumed a total of thirty six hours spread over three weeks time so specifics are hard to convey. My mom is having some issues with vertigo. The docs haven't figured out the cause yet. She is a very giving person and a wonderful woman of GOD. Countless people throughout the years have been comforted by her teachings that GOD loves you for who you are right here and now.Prayers for her would be appreciated.

Speaking of rituals;-----Anyone remember hearing Vee Pee talk about the origin of the horn of plenty? It seems that in the early days they would JUST pass a basket like the type that is used to serve bread. One night the person in charge of such details JUST forgot to bring the basket. Uncle Harry looked around the room and spotted a floral arrangement in a cornucopia. He removed the flowers and the rest is history. Of course later on, the horn had to be a specific color, shape, density of weave, molecular weight,etc. It JUST really blessed me to be able to JUST share that.

I Witnessed door to door quite abit in the mid to late '70s. Why? It was mandated. Sure, you could say "no" and go back home if you were a rank and file believer but the peer pressure was intense to comform. If, on the other hand, you happened to be a twig leader or branch leader, what really were your options? I never really saw much result from door to door. There was an upside, however, and that was that that some of our shy members were able to stretch outside their shells and become more experienced in one on one discourse. GROUP MALL WITNESSING! now that's a whole other horror story begging to be told. I'll do the begging if someone else will do the telling.

Danny------------Whenever I heard VPW teach on the snakes and poison he qualified that it was in the catagory of "if". He would then go on to verbally shred the snake handlers because if they knew what he knew they would know better than to "tempt the lord thy GOD". YUP----- fits like a hand in a wallet!

A certain limb leader decided that building a root cellar would be a good way to move toward self-sufficiency ( part of that survivalist mentality). He them assigned a crew to oversee said progect. One would weigh nutritional issues while another would weigh regional growing viability and yet another was to develope a catalog and inventory system. He then hired a local farmer to bring in a backhoe and dig the hole in the side of a hill. Having no experience in such matters he was unaware that such an excavation requires structural support. Long story shortened; The first big rain turned the root cellar into a root sepulchre. Noone was injured except for those who might have sustained internal injuries trying to stifle their laughter.

I am fairly certain the year was 1977.--------One Friday evening after evening meal in fellowlaborers we were told were were going to be honored with a special training session which was about to commence immediately. Just time for one cigarette or a trip to the restroom take your pick. This was not optional nor did we know about it when we signed up as has been implied on another thread regarding commitments. The introduction was very positive and laid the groundwork for an enlightening weekend. I do not recall the title of the "class" but it sounds very much like what has been described in the discussions of "momentus". AS the sessions progressed it became apparent we were in for an "I'm going to break you" type of scenario that typifies many peoples perception, or experience in boot camp. The 'instructor' was well known and his initials were J.L. There was screaming, there was face melting and the phrase "I think" was worthy of one very severe verbal lashing. "You either know that you know or your worthless foot doesn't belong here."One night and two long days of this worthless crap. Highlights included being literally locked in the building and made to sit in the dark with a mandate of what seemed at the time like hours. One of our beautiful sisters who was naturally prone to shyness,snapped under the pressure. she was then molded into what I call a Stepford believer and remained that way for the rest of her commitment. She moved on to WC after graduation. If you are reading this,kiddo, I mean no offence. I only mean that we thought you were pretty darn cool just being yourself. Imagine sitting in a locked building in rural America hundreds of miles from home with no way to contact the outside world and ordered to maintain complete silence. This 'class' set the precident for what would follow. One time we were awakened at 3 am and ordered to report to limb headquarters in 20 minutes. It was ahalf hour drive so you do the math. Again we sit in the dark for who knows how long in complete silence only to be told the program was cancelled. Get out when the sun comes up. The sun comes up and we are told revelation has changed : We are to stay but must walk a fine line if we are to continue. GOD is displeased with our past performance. It goes on and on and I hope I haven't bored anyone to tears.
