my husband and I were involved with CES in the early years. We went to Momentous asparticipants, but never got involved beyond that. At the same time, we were going to church, and even full-time staff members employed by a couple of different denominations for administrative/teaching positions. The Momentous Training and our involvement with CES was honestly, just a footnote in our lives. No harm/no foul, and yeah it helped us, acutally. Our experience is not everyones'. My husband and I both went through the way corps as well. My attitude is these things are just stepping stones along the way, and you make what you can of them. :)--> After all, Jesus is Lord. Nobody else.

My family and I have been attending "regular" churches since the late 80's. We've even been employed by a few. :)--> Seems if we ex-wayfers have bible teaching/pastoral skills, there is a great demand among the body of Christ. Forget the "I have a problem with the doctrine" thing, and our gifts make very much room.

Ohmigosh. I live in Houston. Our city is getting busloads of people who have virtually no place to go. The Astrodome filled up alot quicker than expected, there is no more room. And people are still arriving by the busload. Most of those arriving are in dire need of medical, including psychiatric care. Please pray for us. Our churches are opening up and giving as much as they can, but the need is overwhelming. Please pray for us. That we can offer the care and shelter that these people need.

I remember working in the pancake tent with Uncle Harry making blueberry pancakes and frying lotza bacon. I think the year was 75 or so. It rained alot. Seemed I worked in the breakfast tent for a few years afterward. til Uncle Harry passed away and I worked on staff. I can't totally remember. :D--> In 1980 I got assigned to back stage, and lived there foreverafter. Til '87, my last Rock. Funny how things you never think you'll forget, you do. :)-->

Praying intensely with you Danny, that they live. And get help soon.

There may be people clinging to life right now, hoping and praying that somehow, someway, they get rescused soon. Those are the ones that are in my prayers now.

Someone who graduated with the 10th corps, a Norwegian, murdered all his roommates in his way home. This happened in Norway in 1989 I think. I knew him fairly well. It was quite a shock, and still is, actually. :(--> He turned himself in, and confessed, and got life imprisonment as a sentence.

Hey brother :)--> Don't give up. Words of kindness and understanding can go a long way in life. I admit to having had a hand of kindness holding me up when I felt like telling everybody to go..... well, you know. It doesn't cost much, really, to be the bigger person in all of life's big and little conflicts. If you know who you are, and who He is, I mean. :)-->

Wish I had I had some words of wisdom, but somehow words seem really inadequate. Sometimes a hug, and a "I know how you feel," go alot further. Impossible on an internet site, I know. That's why we stretch ourselves a bit. And try to express in words the many emotions, feelings, touchy things that don't get communicated much here, because of the limitations of a flat, two-dimensional means of talking.

As one who enjoys conflict resolution, I must say laleo and others have done a fabulous job. As a survivor of the cult, I'm not afraid of conflict. Lemonade tastes much sweeter when you've had to work really hard to pick those lemons, store them, and find just the right time to squeeze them, before they get too ripe. Add just the right amount of sugar, not too much, and voila! heaven on earth. :)--> It tastes really good to be sitting back enjoying something that tasted really sour to start with. :D-->

Wow. Lotza conversation here in the last couple of days. :)--> To answer your question to me a few pages back, laleo, none of my children have any memories of TWI. Thank goodness. To echo much of what Linda said, my family has benefitted so much from our involvement in TWI. All of my immediate family, and much of my extended family participated in way fellowships. It brought us closer together, no doubt. We are totally comfortable worshipping, praying, yes even "witnessing" Jesus Christ together. Somehow, I don't think that would've happened if we had stayed in the catholic church. ;)--> And, like Linda, there aren't too many social or business situations that intimidate me. I'm totally comfortable speaking with clients one on one, or addressing a group of buisiness associates, groups at my church, no matter how large. :D--> That's a direct benefit of being in lotza meetings, as well as "one on one" involvement with people. And I know tons of bible verses.

Gee, thanks David. :)-->

Beautiful post, wayfernot. My first venture into church, after exiting the way, I heard this hymn, altar call and all. It changed my (Christian) life. I Surrender All Crud, the link isn't working. Many apologies.

Whatever. I've been posting at GS and Waydale for nearly 5 years now. The connections I've made with exwayfers is downright phenonimal. They can't stop private conversations among us. :D-->

laleo, Fantastic question you asked. My answer is that I'm a way better parent than I would've been without the way. I ain't stupid, I ain't naive. Almost anything my kids come up with......been there done that, with more energy than they could imagine. :)-->

The "canary in the coal mine" thing got my attention. Anytime people put systems, beliefs, rules and regualations above caring relationaships with other humans, something is very amiss. Any system that isolates and alienates family members, friends, etc. is really messed up. It ain't that hard to care about others. Anybody or anything that discourages that caring and connectedness, is screwy. The whole gospel of Jesus Christ is about loving others. Hello, it summed up the law of the Old Testament which was largely about the reverance of God, which is lived out in the treatment of other humans on the planet. Duh.

I've recently come to appreciate another aspect of way corps training that I honestly have never thought about until today. Getting back to the "community bathroom" thing, that daughter is dealing with going away to college. Daughter is stressed because her dorm has a "community bathroom" that does not include individual shower stalls. Group shower thing going on. Her dorm has the same kind of showers that Emporia Hall had. Egads, she has to get nekkid and take a shower with no privacy. According to her, life could not get any worse. Once again, somehow I know she will survive. :)-->

The one and only, Johnny. ;)-->

Aw, gee, somebody remembered. Hubby and I are celebrating 23 years of wedded bliss.... :)--> I would really like to know where Darnell is? with his Jack Daniels? :D-->

Groucho, Sounds like you need to find another church. :)--> They're not all like you describe. I know it's easy for me to say, living in the land of the mega-church, but there is good to be found. Maybe they need a renegade like you to shake them up a little? I know, been there, done that, but it's not always a total waste. You could be the best thing that's come along in a while.

Thsnks, Evan, for getting it. The way corps wasn't a total loss, after all. I'm able to send my beloved child off into the wild blue whatever, knowing she will be fine. :)-->

i have found new purpose, joy, and reward in my way corps experience. Let me explain.... I just spent this last week at my daughter's university of choice, getting "oriented." Said daughter was sorely dissapointed in her dorm assignment. :(--> She got assigned to an older building with no elevator. Her room is on the 4th floor, with a community bathroom at the end of the hall. She will be sleeping in the top bunk of an 8x12 room with about 12 inches of closet space. Ohmigosh! I was able to fully explain to her the blessings of community showers, (you don't have to clean 'em, housekeeping does) no elevator, (imagine what good shape she will be in, you know aerobics points and all) and only one other roommate (instead of 12.) And she actually has a phone in her room (instead of only one down the hall.) She has to stand in line much of her day, (always have a book on hand to read) and has absolutely no privacy whatsoever anywhere. Thanks to the way corps, I really don't feel very sorry for her, and somehow know she will survive. :D-->

gc Check out Robin Mark for the Celtic Christian sound. For praise and worship, Chris Tomlin is excellent (and also from our church ;)--> ) Ross King and Bob Bennet you won't find in Wal-Mart or Christian Book stores, but their cd's are available on the net if you look around. They are awesome. Plus echo on Third Day. :)--> Check out Mercy Me, but you have to pick and choose with their music. Some is awesome, some....well, not so awesome. All the kids like Switchfoot. Happy listening. :)-->
