  1. I believe WW is up, unless Human wants to go again... George
  2. I must admit that I have never seen this movie, so I don't know what lines are iconic. When the movie came out, all my friends said, "It really makes you think," which is the LAST thing I want to do when I watch a movie. (Well, except for maybe figuring out a whodunnit.) "I ain't no white trash piece of sh-t. I'm better than you all! I can out-learn you. I can out-read you. I can out-think you. And I can out-philosophize you. And I'm gonna outlast you. You think a couple whacks to my guts is gonna get me down? It's gonna take a hell of a lot more than that, Counselor, to prove you're better than me!" "It's not necessary to lay a foul tongue on me my friend. I could get upset. Things could get out of hand. Then in self defense, I could do something to you that you would not like, right here." "Are you my friend? Are you my friend?" "No I'm not your friend." "Well, see, I like to plan my comings and goings with friends, so if you're planning my comings and goings I'd call that presumptuous, in fact I'd call it downright rude." George
  3. Hawaii Bonnie and Clyde The Gypsy Moths George
  4. I'm not sure who "Dot" is, but you're right about the singer. This was her biggest hit of the 70s, even above "Half Breed." George
  5. One of the major stars of this film was notoriously lazy. He suggested that the cameras roll during rehearsals, because they "might get lucky" (meaning he wouldn't have to repeat a performance). He was also bad about memorizing lines. He delivers a key speech written on a baby's diaper. The actual star of the film was a relative unknown at the time and was actually third-billed in the credits and most promotional material. George
  6. OK, TWO lines, then... "I was born in the wagon of a traveling show. Momma would dance for the money they'd throw." George
  7. Victor/Victoria James Garner The Americanization of Emily George
  8. The oral sex clue pretty much eliminates any show prior to about 2000. Even implied, that would probably not have gotten past the censors. Unless it was on premium cable (e.g., HBO). No real idea, yet. George
  9. I suspect that there's a coming, but I'm not getting it. George
  10. We sorta ended this thread, but there are still a lot of easy ones. For example "I was born in the wagon of a traveling show." George
  11. No. This woman did receive a title of Baroness before her death but was not of England's royal lineage. (In fact, I hadn't known she HAD a title until just now looking up her Wikipedia site.) George
  12. That's it. Hailed as one of the worst movies of all time, though Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffman did all right, afterwards. George
  13. Feel free to go ahead with another, if you wish, WW. George
  14. Janet Brown Meryl Streep Lindsay Duncan Andrea Riseborough Lesley Manville Greta Scacchi There are other, even-lesser-known actresses. Would it help if I mention that the character is (or was) an actual Englishwoman? George
  15. Not sure if this qualifies as "super-hero," but the CW network will soon premiere "Tom Swift." The book series generally had him as a teen-age inventor akin to a young MacGyver. In the CW version, he's black (of course) and gay (of course). The trailers look interesting. George
  16. In one of Gary Larson's "The Far Side" comic strips, captioned "Hell's Video Store", the entire store is stocked with nothing but copies of this film. Larson later apologized, saying "When I drew the above cartoon, I had not actually seen [the movie]. Years later, I saw it on an airplane, and was stunned at what was happening to me: I was actually being entertained. Sure, maybe it's not the greatest film ever made, but my cartoon was way off the mark. There are so many cartoons for which I should probably write an apology, but this is the only one which compels me to do so." Although the film had an overwhelmingly negative reception when released, it underwent three successful screenings with preview audiences. The stars have all defended the film's quality in subsequent years, blaming its bad reputation on reports of production and budgetary problems which had been leaked to the press by studio head David Puttnam, who disliked two of the stars. Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, and Edgar Wright are fans of the film. Scorsese called it one of his favorite movies. The film's reception was so awful that it helped coin a new Hollywood term in relation to writer and director Elaine May: "movie jail". The term referred to someone whose perceived failure as a director was so profound, they would not be allowed to helm a movie again for a very long time, if ever again. In fact, May has not directed a single new movie since this one. It should be noted that the two main stars did the film because they felt indebted to May, who had been involved in the writing of some of their actual box-office hits. Both main stars took a lot of ribbing for the film, but it's safe to say that neither of their careers really suffered for it. George
  17. Oddly enough, those lines do seem vaguely familiar. (Not enough yet, for a guess.) George
  18. Mel Brooks Blazing Saddles Alex Karras George
  19. Technically, it's Raf's turn, but... George
  20. I'm not sure you're in the right thread. My last post was Janet Brown Meryl Streep Lindsay Duncan To which I'll add Andrea Riseborough Lesley Manville Greta Scacchi George
