And I was being cheeky with the title and artist. Right. Ok, next song. "I love my sunny day. Dream of far away. Dreaming on my pillow in the morning. Never been awake. Never seen a day break".

YES! I thought her character in "The Spirit" or the Cristina from "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" might have been the trick. At least I didn't have to put up The Black Widow. Your turn!

Now, that explains why Donna was not made President. Donna was given all the REAL power, and Vern and John were given the visible offices. That's right out of Rosalie's playbook. Control everything you can from hiding, but make sure someone else is up front to take all the blame. This time, Rosalie was able to design the offices SPECIFICALLY to do exacgtly that. So, Donna has all the power (and controls all the money), and Vern and John have shiny new badges and pretend to run everything, and handle all the decisions that have no effect on the money and power. And if they actually prove effective, then Donna gets to eject them and install someone less effective.

Beguiled? Please don't blame yourself for what happened to your brother. You both were abused by twi and in twi. They abused your parents- who then abused both of you, and they abused both of you directly. Both of you had to learn to survive in the face of what they all did to both of you. Decades of callous people surrounding his every action, with callous parents modeling his behavior, resulted in him becoming a callous person and thinking that's how you're supposed to be- that it's "NORMAL" because that was "normal" in his upbringing. It's sad, but as an adult, he now has chances to be exposed to other people and learn differently, today, tomorrow, whenever. That's up to him now. I'm well aware that many people have become non-Christian or angry at God post-twi. Many have not, as well. I'm not going to tell you that you have to be one or the other. I will say that you can still pray for them and for yourself (or not, if it doesn't suit you.) Either way, you'll need to learn to forgive yourself for surviving the experience. I'm not sure I can tell you how, but thousands of us/people have gone on to happy lives post-twi, and you can be one of us/them. Oh, and you don't have to be a PERFECT Dad, just love your kid and do your best. I've found that making the effort gets better results than supposedly excellent parents who don't seem to want to invest the time and energy in their kid.

Post-Way Churches- Sexual Assaut
WordWolf replied to RedSpringTulips's topic in Out of the Way: The Offshoots
Considering that each self-appointed leader is following the pattern vpw set- with zero accountability, a "lockbox" for secrets, etc, it's not that shocking that some of those "leaders" have abused their congregations. There's nothing to protect the flock or stop abuses or limit the leader's power. -

For some previous discussions here about Victor Barnard specifically, there's the following threads.... "Accused sex predator Victor Barnard, a victim's story" https://www.greasespotcafe.com/ipb/topic/23728-accused-sex-predator-victor-barnard-—-a-victims-story/ "Victor Barnard pleads guilty" https://www.greasespotcafe.com/ipb/topic/24350-victor-barnard-pleads-guilty/ "Remembering a woman of courage, who stood up to a monster" https://www.greasespotcafe.com/ipb/topic/24956-remembering-a-woman-of-courage-who-stood-up-to-a-monster/\ It was also mentioned in the following threads: "Splintering and subjugating, as night follows day" https://www.greasespotcafe.com/ipb/topic/24900-splintering-and-subjugatingas-night-follows-day/ "Splinters and groupthink" https://www.greasespotcafe.com/ipb/topic/24935-splinters-and-groupthink/ "Splinter cults are worse, not better" https://www.greasespotcafe.com/ipb/topic/24827-splinter-cults-are-worsenot-better/ So, if you're curious, you can follow up on one or more of those threads/ previous discussions. -
You are corrrect! The new movie didn't have THRUSH, they had WASP. The A-Team episode was "the UNCLE Affair." The Avengers episode was "The Girl from Auntie", and even had MFU as an abbreviation on a sign at the beginning.

The Sator Square..... SATOR AREPO TENET OPERA ROTAS Its exact meaning- and if it HAS a meaning- is debated. Some people think it's a magical incantation, like, say, "ABRACADABRA."

Ok, next show. In its time, this show was very well-known. In fact, it inspired one episode of "the Avengers" (Steed and Peel) and one episode of "The A-Team." It had its own spin-off. When it aired, several episodes were taken, with additional scenes either restored or added, and then released with new names as theatrical releases- but not in the US. Later, there was an entirely new story that was made into a completely new theatrical release (but not with the original actors.) Supposedly, there was a rival group. According to a novel, it was founded by Col. Sebastian Moran after the death of Professor Moriarty at the Reichenbach Falls in the Sherlock Holmes story, "The Final Problem". (This despite no obvious connection between Sherlock Holmes or Arthur Conan Doyle and this show.) In an episode of the show, a character claims she founded the organization. Oh, and the name of the rival group was changed in the last theatrical release (the one with different actors.)

I'm currently blanking on a show. If anyone has one, they can take this as a FREE POST. If not, I'll post something as soon as I think of something.

Just to make it official, CORRECT. But you knew that already.

In fairness, George's misses helped me get in the groove for working this out. :)

Um, let's see.......I THINK "Free Enterprise" was something about the Star Trek fandom. With that in mind, the melodramatic pauses probably aren't for, say, Adam West, but rather for............. WILLIAM SHATNER.

*checks* No, and this movie is from 1986. He died in 1985. Depending on when they filmed the scenes, he may have been dead or too ill to act when they were filming.
-
Taking that as a clue that supposedly gives away the movie if you saw it, I'm thinking this might be "THE INVENTION OF LYING."

I know EMILIO ESTEVEZ was in "Loaded Weapon 1". Any chance this is he?

Vicomte de Valvert: Monsieur, your nose... your nose is rather large. Cyrano de Bergerac: Rather? Vicomte de Valvert: Oh, well... Cyrano de Bergerac: Is that all? Vicomte de Valvert: Well of course... Cyrano de Bergerac: Oh, no, young sir. You are too simple. Why, you might have said a great many things. Why waste your opportunity? For example, thus: AGGRESSIVE: I, sir, if that nose were mine, I'd have it amputated on the spot. PRACTICAL: How do you drink with such a nose? You must have had a cup made especially. DESCRIPTIVE: 'Tis a rock, a crag, a cape! A cape? Say rather, a peninsula! INQUISITIVE: What is that receptacle? A razor case or a portfolio? KINDLY: Ah, do you love the little birds so much that when they come to see you, you give them this to perch on. CAUTIOUS: Take care! A weight like that might make you top-heavy. ELOQUENT: When it blows, the typhoon howls, and the clouds darken! DRAMATIC: When it bleeds, the Red Sea. SIMPLE: When do they unveil the monument? MILITARY: Beware, a secret weapon. ENTERPRISING: What a sign for some perfumer! RESPECTFUL: Sir, I recognize in you a man of parts. A man of... prominence! Or, LITERARY: Was this the nose that launched a thousand ships? These, my dear sir, are things you might have said, had you some tinge of letters or of wit to color your discourse. But wit? Not so, you never had an atom. And of letters, you need but three to write you down: A, S, S. foot! Vicomte de Valvert: Insolent puppy, dolt, bumpkin, fool! Cyrano de Bergerac: How do you do? And I, Cyrano Savinien Hercule de Bergerac.

The failed CA series was, IIRC, end of the 70s, possibly early 80s. (IIRC, motorcycles were in style in the 70s.) This show has title characterS. This show had 2 antagonists for the title characters. The people who wrote the fan mail KNEW the addressee was unable to read fan mail, but sent it anyway. One lead faked a southern accent and said he was 24 when he was 18. Why could the character not read the mail, and people knew that but mailed him anyway? (Not a cartoon.) "He/she" was not a person. So, one character was an "it". like Mr Ed or KITT. So, late 70s/early 80s. Southern accent. 2 antagonists, title characters. A character who wasn't a person- but was really popular- but NOT a title character (the clues were phrased to avoid that.) Based on all that- and what it eliminates- I'm going to say that all that fan mail was for "THE GENERAL LEE" and the show was "THE DUKES OF HAZZARD." Boss Hogg and Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane were in almost every (or every) episode for something like 10 seasons.

It seems that we occasionally get posters who think they have some sort of inalienable rights to things they don't. Here's some friendly reminders. 1) The GSC is a private messageboard that is open to the public. The Admins and Mods determine the rules, and have final say on all disagreements. 2) You don't have any authority to overturn their decisions. You can make a logical case for something. If they disagree, you can either drop it or refuse. 3) Picking fights with staff results in warnings, deleted posts, deleted threads, and temporary or permanent bans. 4) If you don't like the way ANY board is run, you can just go elsewhere. There's other boards, and there's always the option to make your own. All of that is not unique to the GSC. All of that is pretty much standard and generally common sense. Remember that some speech anywhere will not be allowed, for any of a number of reasons. Some speech anywhere will be unpopular and the other posters will disagree and say so. You don't have any kind of "right" to have people agree with you. If you don't make your case, don't be surprised if you're alone on a position. ======================= "I can't remember where I heard this, but someone once said that defending a position by citing free speech is sort-of the ultimate concession; you're saying that the most compelling thing you can say for your position is that it's not literally illegal to express." - xkcd

Usually, when any one of us can say "I do not really care much at all" about a subject, we post zero posts on the thread. It's rather obvious that Allan's got a reason to post on this thread that he really DOES care about- and it's an odious enough reason that he won't come clean and say what it is. We're getting posts by insinuation, by "innocent questions", cheap shots and other things that are used to distract from a thread's topic or change the subject.

"you been having a bad week/month Raf? you've gotten a bit prickly there Rafael lol..." WordWolf: You lashed out with an insult, and he lashed back. If he'd just swung out like that first, I'd have said something. Allan: " I don't care one bit whether you stopped believing in the Saviour of mankind and now brush off s.i.t. as 'glossolia'.." WordWolf: Actually, your posts indicated otherwise, and you're more dismissive of him now as a result- as if, when he posts facts, they don't count now because you and he disagree on religion and that changes the facts. BTW, "glossolia" isn't something any of us said, so you may have made that term up. Allan: ."what I DO care about is yourself and Rocky ATTACKING a poster (moi) in a very personal way !! please desist or I will ask the mods to step in " WordWolf: He hit me first- after I hit him back! Your insult was first, he insulted back. Other than that, he didn't "attack" you, and neither did Rocky. If you were consistent, you would just respond to Raf's shot as if it was nothing- since you think yours was nothing. Thinking your insult of him was fine but his insult of you wasn't isn't internally consistent, and there's terms for people who have one set of rules for themselves and a different, stricter set of rules for others.
