  1. Waxit: "The 7th day Sabbath was universally accepted by all and observed by both Jews,Gentiles and the apostles/leadership Acts 13: 42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought these words might be preached to them the next sabbath. 43 Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God. 44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God." ============================================================================= [Actually, if this is the only place you're getting it from, you're jumping to a conclusion. The synagogue was open on "the Sabbath" for prayer and talking about God. That was expected among the practicing Jews who were not Christians. When some Jews believed and became Christians, the "default" for them automatically would have been to meet on the same day unless they were unable to do so. There's also nothing shocking about a "Christian Jew" going to the synagogue to hear the Torah (Old Testament) being read. That was the only place to do it, and there were no printing presses so no Bibles at home to read from. So, unless they were prevented from doing so, "Christian Jews" would show up at the synagogue on "the Sabbath", listen to the Torah being read, and speaking to devout Jews about the Messiah and preaching Christ to them. They'd want devout Jews to know the coming Messiah had arrived, after all. It's also not terribly shocking that some Gentiles who'd want to hear would follow news of "Christian Jews" (the disciples) would end up near, around, or otherwise at the synagogue to hear. That's where they were, that's where they were teaching, and that's WHEN they were teaching. All of that is simple human nature (force of habit, this is where the Torah is being read so I listen there, this is where they need to hear, so I speak there), and it's not necessary to even get into "Israel was told to respect the Sabbath" to have a reasonable explanation. ]
  2. No, "the Walking Dead" was based directly on Robert Kirkman's comic/graphic novels of the same name. This round is not on anything from that franchise. The TV shows mentioned in this round are not based on any comic books, for that matter.
  3. Ok, surveying my foggy memory... it doesn't sound like "For Your Eyes Only" to me, but I could be wrong. So, let's go with "The Spy Who Loved Me."
  4. Ok, got something. Some shows are sequels or spinoffs of other shows. Some shows are the shows from which other shows spun off. This show is a sequel of a previous show, and has had more than one show either as a sequel or spinoff from this show (depending on how one defines either.) One of its sequels, in fact, is either current or ended fairly recently (it had episodes in 2020.) At least 3 characters from the previous show have appeared in this show, and at least two other actors/actresses from the previous show appeared on this show as well (but not as their previous characters.) We've seen some of this show's characters appear in 2 sequels (as regulars in one of them, as guests in the other.) The current/recent show has/had one of them as well. What is the name of this show?
  5. "James Sinjin Smythe" (James St-John Smythe) was an alias James Bond used in one of the Roger Moore movies. I remember hearing Roger Moore pronouncing that name. That narrows the field considerably. Um, "MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN"?
  6. Waxit: "Rocky, first of all Mark is not my enemy and secondly I definitely do not have the final word on what pleases God. Only the Lord Jesus Christ will judge rigteously in the end Only God knows who will and who will not enter the kingdom of God. I dont know whether you give a hoot about the sabbath which is a really important topic but instead you are picking to comment on something that you should think about before you tap on the keyboard To be honest, I did not want to comment to Mark's reply because I thought he might be in the twilight zone but i thought wait a minute, he needs to be shown so he can think along the correct lines outlined in the word of God So this is actually loving the person enough to show him and not ignore someone. It was not delivered with hatred but love " {Waxit, Welcome to the Grease Spot Cafe! Here, many different opinions and positions are allowed. People can think for themselves and don't usually have to toe a company line. Christians and non-Christians discuss what interests them. It seems like this is as new an experience for you as it is for a lot of ex-twi'ers (as well as those still in.) When you're communicating with people who may not agree with you, it is NOT effective, usually, to get on your high horse and condescend to say that you're right, they're wrong, and they'll have to get with your position or risk displeasing God Almighty. This is a common method of communication for twi innies and survivors. It is largely ineffective outside of twi and twi-style groups. A lot of us posted like that to a greater or lesser degree once- myself included. I recommend you reconsider if you want anyone to agree with you. I might think you have legitimate points to make, but few people will bother to agree with someone whose posting style makes it look like he's full of his own self-importance. It's most likely that you'll slap a label on my post and on me- which will make it easy to dismiss what I'm saying. It's possible you'll consider whether I have a legitimate point. I recommend you think on it. Paul was all things to all men so that by all means he could save some. Perhaps you could benefit from a little flexibility in your communication style.]
  7. Waxit: "Saturday is universally recognised as the seventh day of the week. Sunday is recognised as the first day of the week." [When I see people's "rationale" for something as "it need not be defended" or "everyone knows this", I tend to get suspicious, It's not how someone explains, it's how someone ducks explaining something. In all the print calendars I've seen for the past decade (and longer), nearly all of them run Monday to Sunday, and posted work schedules have likewise been "Monday to Sunday" Sounds like your position is not " universally recognized."
  8. Is this "Kingsmen-the Secret Service" ???
  9. YES, And Orson Wells played him back in the Golden Age of Radio. IIRC, Richard Roxburgh played him in "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen." Daniel Davis played him in ST:TNG. And so on. George's turn!
  10. Daniel Davis Vincent D'Onofrio Lionel Atwill Leo Mc Kurn Anthony Higgins Richard Roxburgh Natalie Dormer Orson Wells George Zucco
  11. It was, and that's the title and artist for this song. Your turn. Did you know that song was based on an actual event, a fire at a studio by a lake shore?
  12. Christopher Lee's been in a lot of stuff. Warren Oates did a lot of war movies. I'm thinking it's a war movie. With Tim Matheson, it couldn't be VERY old. That's all I've got.
  13. "We ended up at the Grand Hotel It was empty, cold and bare But with the Rolling truck Stones thing just outside Making our music there. With a few red lights and a few old beds We made a place to sweat. No matter what we get out of this, I know, I know we'll never forget."
  14. Daniel Davis Vincent D'Onofrio Lionel Atwill Leo Mc Kurn Anthony Higgins Richard Roxburgh
  15. Picking up from Michelle Yeoh and allowed to Imdb.... Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 2 Sylvester Stallone Demolition Man

  17. "With a few red lights and a few old beds We made a place to sweat. No matter what we get out of this, I know, I know we'll never forget."
  18. I remember a DJ giving that as the name, back when it charted. That darn DJ steered me wrong! Ok, next song...
  19. vpw used INSINUATION ("weasel words") to INSINUATE he was all sorts of things. He also rewrote the definitions of things so they could be applied to him. He INSINUATED he spoke for God, so some people thought he was a prophet. He claimed an evangelist doesn't win souls, but rather gets the church excited so THEY go and DO THE WORK of winning souls. He claimed an apostle ("A SENT ONE") was not a sent one, but "one who brings 'new light' to their generation. It may be 'old light', but to that generation, it's 'new light.' " All so that people would say he was those, all without him actually using the words "I am an apostle" or "I am a prophet" or "I am an evangelist." The definitions of "teacher" and "pastor" , those he was already used to finessing.
  20. So, home-church on Skype or something, is that what you're suggesting? :)
  21. Lori Petty played Tank Girl, Malcom Mc Donald, IIRC, played the Big Bad. Jet Girl, the shy British geek, was played by Naomi Watts, if you can believe it.
  22. It was not Dr Higgins, it was Rosalind Rinker. The thread "the Way-Living in Wonderland" (I heartily recommend that thread and "vp and Me in Wonderland" when you have time) is here: https://www.greasespotcafe.com/ipb/topic/7363-the-wayliving-in-wonderland/ Towards the bottom of page 1 was my post dated August 29, 2005, and that's where the quote appears. We discuss that very quote later- Oakspear, IIRC, spotted it first and we discussed it from there. *checks* At the bottom of page 10, SUNESIS was the one that caught it (not Oakspear.) We start discussing it further on page 11.
  23. Hm. They told him he could do anything EXCEPT ONE, and that was his immediate UNYIELDING focus, and they had the nerve to be offended that he went 180 degrees from his instructions. (ANY church where tithing is taught on for an ENTIRE MONTH looks like it's ONLY in it for the money, and NOBODY will like it.) "They said not to teach on money, so I didn't-I taught on tithing." I'll bet he felt so clever, so pleased with himself for adhering-PARTLY- to the letter while perverting the spirit of his instructions. For those wondering if they were right to give him instructions, they were the ELDERS-the experienced local leaders, and he was the guy who JUST arrived and was young and lacking in experience. Unless he had a compelling reason beyond tweaking their noses, he should have considered their counsel wise and followed it. Convenient coincidence that what served God just happened to be the easy path for him. pg-177, he meets Rosalind Rinker in Indiana. (page-178, since "Nothing cataclysmic...") Watch this next quote from pg-179. pg-180. pg-181. pg-185-186. vpw is continuing his tour. Somebody asked about vpw admitting he'd gone to school and been working as a pastor for some time BEFORE he believed "the Bible was the Word of God." This was the quote from "the Way-Living in Love" where he admitted it.
  24. The discussion "The Way-Living in Wonderland" discussed the book "The Way-Living in Love." We had excerpts of the content of that book, and discussed them. One of the quotes was from something like the second year of vpw's career as a minister, meaning he'd completed years of study to complete a Masters and Doctorate in Divinity. BTW, the Masters was from the respectable Princeton Theological Seminary (not Princeton University, but both are located at Princeton NJ, thus their names) and the Doctorate was from Pikes Peak Seminary, which was more of a degree mill than anything else, with all work submitted by mail. The quote was from that time, and said Dr Higgins (I think it was her) introduced him to the idea that the Bible was the Word of God. He claimed he hadn't heard that before- not believing it, anyway. At the time, he'd been working as a pastor at a church and delivering sermons on Sunday. I'll see if I can get a link to the thread, then the post. BTW, since that got discussed in the thread, there's more than 1 post that's relevant, obviously.
  25. For a moment, I was thinking "Donald Pierce" and thinking about how I never watched the X-Men movies. But ALEXANDER Pierce is connected with SHIELD. So, this might be ROBERT REDFORD.
