  1. Thank you WW. The marriage thing sounds a bit less weird now. When I hear of mass weddings, I automatically think of the Moonies and the stunt they pulled. I think it was the moonies. I'm too lazy to google right now. As far as the window washing too, the cheap start up costs makes a lot of sense, and how it might be an ideal job for people going to ministry, it makes a lot of sense. But yeah, this was going strong back in 79/80. It was like, the thing to DO. Everybody gloated about how much money they were making, and I think that perhaps some people it worked out well, for many others it was just a big fish story.

But it must have been somebodies brainchild somewhere. I don't know. Like I said. I just recently found out what "meme" meant. I still don't know how to pronounce it. But it was like in the Way, once somebody got ahold of a book, or movie they saw, it was like THE THING to read or do. And it was that way with the window washing back in 79/80. It's was like "quit your job and become a window washer!" I kid you not. And it just didn't work well for everybody. I didn't know they were like that with house painting too. Good grief, I'm glad I didn't try that. I have no eye for painting at all!

  2. I know it's an odd mix for a topic. First, I've read about "mass marriages" on these boards before, at least a couple times, and quite frankly, I couldn't believe it. Now I was more involved with an offshoot, than I was with The Way itself, but did this really happen? It reminds me of something the moonies would do.

I DO recall back in 79/80 when I was involved with the original wayfers, that people were just hooking up with anybody. It was freaking ridiculous. I'm sure most of those marriages have ended in divorce.

Secondly, how did all the window washing stuff start? I even got roped into doing that myself for a summer. It was no where near as good money as everybody was making it out to be, and I really didn't like the hard physical work OUTDOORS and using my own car tooling around everywhere, so I didn't last long. But some people still do it to this day, and hey, if they can make a go of it, That's fantastic. But I'm curious how that all got started.

One thing with the wayfers and the offshoots, I guess nowadays you would call it like a meme. Whatever somebody gets into, a book, a movie, whatever, spreads all around like it's the ONE THING, that everybody is into at the same time. I saw it a lot at the offshoot I went to.

Anyway, I'm getting off topic. So back to recap, did the Way really have mass marriages and how the heck did the window washing start? :)

  3. I'm sorry my post seemed so callous. I know this must be an extremely difficult time for him and I certainly wish him all the best. I hope you will accept my apology.

Waysider I've read plenty of your posts..I still lurk here from time to time even when I'm not posting...and You don't have a callous bone in your body. Sometimes we need to just get out what we are thinking you know? And I agree with your post anyway. You are NOT callous!!! You are a caring person. I don't want to get mushy with you so I'll leave it at that, lol. :cryhug_1_:

  4. Wierwille preached a lot of things about God and the Bible that were true, while at the very same time he taught things that contradicted exactly the truth he was preaching.

All of us who became involved with TWI were suckered in by Wierwille's deception...

    Love,

    Steve

Steve, all I can contribute right now is a big AMEN! to your post. That sums it up nicely.

  5. Oh gosh! I remember going to my mother's Catholic church...the one that I Was raised in, sigh... and demanding to know about speaking in tongues, I KNEW they had small catholic groups that did that. Mind you, this was back in 1979/80... and the deacon or whatever title he held, told me YES, they do have these small groups that do that. I was trying to prove to my mother, that this was real.

Well...in my zeal to prove this, I ran across a lady who was part of the "info team" at that church. I remember to this day. She said, I just try to walk in LOVE. I don't worry about that stuff. I thought she was a simpleton and walked away disgusted.

    Geez.

  6. I was not quite as fortunate.....my family actually bought what I was selling.

    :(/>/>

Waysider: Do you mind if I ask how old your parents were at the time? I'm just curious. Were they over or under 50? Because over 50 people are pretty set in there ways. That's why I'm curious.

editing to say I'm sorry about your dad Broken Arrow. That was way too young to die. :(

  7. Broken Arrow your killing me. :jump:/> This could be a thread in and of itself. Seriously. The things we did when we were waybrained and how foolish and unspiritual our parents/others(natural men) were who were so carnal minded. Oh my gosh. I know I spoke in tongues in front of people. Yeah, that really impressed them. :rolleyes:/> lol!

And now I really need to get back to work, well...it's Good Friday, I guess I can take off early.

  8. Broken Arrow, that was a great story, lol. :biglaugh: I'm sure most of us have our own version of something like that in our past too. I know I do, lol. I think it was a certain beloved greasespotter here who once posted that for Christmas she gave her entire Catholic family copies of JC is Not God. :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh: That still tickles me to this day when I think of that.

  9. I saw the news report too, and while I did laugh at the same things you did, Groucho (Wiere-WHILE and the CULTure of adultery) I found it rather annoying that the news reporters rather dismissed the adultery in "The Way" as between "consenting" adults. That was their words, wasn't it?

  10. Whether it was a Friday or Saturday........the stone was rolled away.

    And.....Gabriel sat on it.

    And.....the tomb was empty.

    HE IS RISEN. :)/>/>

That scripture or quote, where ever and when ever I see, it, HE IS RISEN..STILL gives me goose bumps! Thank you Lord Jesus! :dance:/>

  11. Interesting link Rocky

    Fox 9 reporter Tom Lyden.

I see The Way and Wierwille's fine legacy live on. Sheesh. Thank goodness I'm no longer associated with any offshoot of this group. I'd be ashamed of it's history. And yeah, this guy sounds like a cross between David Koresh and Warren Jeffs.

  12. Oh my word wolf. I love you and I find you annoying because you actually get my brain a thinking. I need to think about this, I agree with your points, well taken my friend. But still...well, like I said, I'll respond to this a bit later lol. Okay, I think some guys are just LAZY. They are taken off guard and think they are like "the answer man" of the moment. So they have to come up with something...So without taking a breather, and saying, let me look at this scripture..they just come up off the cuff with some answer. I think that's part of it too.. Like I said, I need to digest some of this and think. Intelligence doesn't come naturally to me. lolololololol.

  13. Back in 2000, I knew a guy that "took" Momentus, and ended up in the hospital. It really broke him psychologically. When I was dabbling in my very brief...well...dabble, in CES at that time, JL recommended Momentus to me. I couldn't believe he was doing that, when he KNEW this guy was hospitalized, and when I mentioned it to this guy, he just shook his head and remarked, "So he's still pushing Momentus, sheesh."

I just tried looking up Momentus therapy, and the only link to it is dead. There are websites that talk about it, (all negative) but I can't find a live link where anyone is actually still in business selling or practicing this.

  14. Oh gosh WW: Thank you for clearing both things up. I can understand the Simon thing a lot better.

That one verse that is so terribly confusing about Jesus saying that not everybody who call's me Lord,etc...Well in context that sure makes a lot more sense. The thing is WHY don't the mainstream preachers get this? This is a verse that terribly frightens a lot of Christians, and whenever I hear this question being brought up via TV or radio, you hear a lot of mumbling and hmming and hawing from these "experts" but they pretty much just reinforce the belief that it's meant towards Christians. I don't know why I did not see this clearer just by reading it in context, I feel kind of stupid, but then again, I have to point to the "experts" who obviously can't answer a simple question either without confusing people.

  15. Oh yeah exie take your time, it's not that long, the entire thing is less than half an hour, but you have to be in the right frame of mind to see it. It's quite brutal, I think, and painful to watch. I believe she may be healed, but I'm sure she still carries scars. PS. I love it when you say you can't read the whole post but you acknowledge it. lol. That tickles me, lol. Cause I know what you mean. I get lazy brain when things get wordy. I always had trouble reading Stephen King novels. Mr. Diarrhea of the word processor. :yawn1:/>

WW: Interesting scripture you brought up. I had forgotten about Simon the sorcerer. I am assuming he was born again because he believed, but yet I'm confused as to why the people were not saved yet after being baptized in the name of Jesus, I guess that's different than believing he is the Savior? I guess that's more of doctrine question though.

Since you brought that scripture up though, it made me think of another one in Acts. Where some Jewish exorcist wanted the power of casting out demons, like he saw the apostles doing, and got the crap beat out of him.

In fact, that scripture in Mathew that says "Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?'then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!"

That scripture scares a lot of people, like salvation isn't a sure thing. But I think maybe it's talking about unbelievers using his name.

I've seen these ghost chaser shows where they are having seances and actually use the name of Jesus or the "white light" to protect them before they call up the dead. So I'm kind of hoping Jesus is talking about stuff like that. And not like idiot believers like me.

Anyway, people like the power, as you pointed out, it's right in scripture. Damn. I just want to get through this life with a peaceful exit, like I'm sure MOST of us do.

  16. Oh my gosh. I couldn't listen to Joyce for close to two years, because a woman I knew (ex wayfer too) became such a fanatic with her. I guess because Joyce has such a huge following she attracts all kinds in various stages. But, whenever you want to give it a peek, Here is part one Joyce Meyer Testimony Part 1 and here is part two Joyce Meyer Testimony Part 2

I don't know. I do believe that people can be healed, absolutely, but I find it hard to fathom that people can go through any kind of abuse unscathed. There is always some scar people will carry with them, deep in their soul. Perhaps that's not a bad thing though.

Coming back to edit: Perhaps it's not a bad thing if what they are hurting from can help other people. Only the hurting can truly understand another hurting.

  17. Some outcasts are just outcasts.

However, God has worked with a LOT of outcasts, both in and out of Scripture.

The stone which the builders rejected became the cornerstone.

This was THE LORD's doing, and it was marvelous in our eyes.

    Amen WW Amen.

  18. Good gravy. These are nice songs, but so many sad ones. With a couple of exceptions of course. :)/>

PS. Shout to the Lord by Hillsong and Bless the Lord by Zalina Fedotov (from God of Wonders) make me cry. :( But I cry at Hallmark commercials and I bet exie does too. :redface2:

  19. dearest rottie, you are about the loveliest misfit i have ever met

i think a lot of us along with our most precious lord and savior jesus chrst are misfits

well until we're all together again

    i love you

(((exie))) Thanks exie. I agree that a LOT of us feel like misfits. I think though that Jesus would probably single us out and make us feel one of the "in" crowd. In fact, he DID do that from what little scripture I know. Shared a meal with all the outcasts. Hmm,I have another story, for another time, I may share on this board. But thanks for the post! :knuddel:

  20. good points new life and outs. Exie, I hesitate asking you this, but I'm wondering if you have ever seen Joyce Meyer's testimony. I mean HER testimony about her life growing up? It's very painful to watch, but damn, I think she does quite a service to people about being so transparent and honest. Plus she was doing this while her dad was still alive, which he's not anymore.
