  1. Wild guess- "Frasier"?

No but good guess. Same basic time frame (give or take a couple years) as far as the run of this series though. The series I'm talking about had very meddlesome parents.......

  2. Even I know this one. "Money for Nothing" by Dire Straits.

I love the Weird Al "Beverly Hillbillies" parody.

    Satan should be her name.

To me, they're about the same.

    George

That's it George! lol! Your turn. And thank you for Parody. I love Weird Al Parodies. I'll listen to it in a little bit as soon as I finish this paperwork I'm on, lol. smile.gif

OH I found the video version of it and it's great.

  3. I remember my mom showing me the very brief article in the Sun Times that he had died. (she was one of the zillions of "concerned mothers" who had talked to that Sun Tims reporter back in 79. ) By that time I was working in a new-wave club, bouncing around nightclubs almost every night, and really didn't care. I just shrugged at her. This was pre-offshoot days, which would come later in the 90s and wanted to reconnect. Bleh.

  4. The original part of the lyrics I was going to use was the unedited version, which they play on the rock stations. It was accused of being homophobic, racist, and sexist. The cleaned up version is what they play on the "pop" stations. And this was a HUGE hit for this band.

  5. OKAY! I actually am coming back to edit this, because I don't want to be slammed for being offensive. lol So I'm going to start with these lyrics.

    We gotta install microwave ovens

    Custom kitchen deliveries

    We gotta move these refrigerators

We gotta move these colour TV's

  6. Yes, KOOKIE was the give-away!

    Ok, my turn...

This episode, on this Long running TV sitcom, was considered by many to be one of the funniest on the series. The main character's hapless - unlucky in love - brother, believes he has found the perfect girl – until he finds out that she enjoys eating flies for snacks.

  7. Mark, Thank you for that post to The Living Bible, I will use it, and appreciate it.

Word Wolf: I Understand TOTALLY what you are saying. I usually go by my NLT Study Bible, but I KNOW that's not the best version/translation out there. I also have an amplified (Joyce Meyer uses that exclusively) however that is a bit wordy for me. However, that being said, I ALWAYS have my old KJV bible nearby, because I KNOW that certain versions do not translate out well, and all it takes is one word to throw everything off.

I'm no bible scholar by any means, I just try to get the jist of the verse or story that's being told. But when I run into difficulties, that's when I throw a question up on this board (krys, AMEN to your post!) Or see if I can google it or use my KJV to see what that says. :)

Oh and thanks WW too for that handly link. :)

  8. Thank you Mark!

    Okay, this helps a lot. First, what I'm seeing is the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it they would not have crucified the Lord of glory;

That makes it sounds like people who would not have crucified this. The reason I'm saying this is I was led to believe this verse was talking about satan never would have crucified Jesus. Which makes no sense seeing it in the context of this verse.

Then what I'm seeing is . But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering. 18 Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will give us later. Okay, I saw a preacher who taught on this. And he said no matter how awful things seem in this life, nothing the devil does can outshine what God has in store for us. I really had a hard time swallowing that at the time, but I'm seeing it MUCH clearer now.

Then: having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body. NO WONDER PEOPLE FEEL SO LOST! Especially Christians!

    Then

24 For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.

This is a verse I need to copy and remind myself that this will be real someday.

Mark: That bible version you used, The Living Bible, is beautiful. I'm going to read verses from that version now too. It really is a simplified beautiful version. Thank you both so much!

  9. Okay, Okay, I never saw this show but I KNOW this is part of American Culture. Damn it. What is it. lol. 77 Sunset Strip or something like that. Or 79 Sunset Strip. or 666 Sunset Strip. realmad.gif/> Sheesh. Something like that. Darn it.

157 Riverside Avenue. Dammit I know it's some number and sunset strip I think!

  10. I JUST THOUGT OF THE COMMERCIAL!!! It's Eddie Money, two tickets to paradise, lol. But I can't think of what that song you quoted is!!!! I only know that song from him because I'm just not a huge Eddie money fan!!

    I didn't know he was a cop!

  11. WW Thank you so much for that! I'm at work now in the middle of something, and can't digest it as much as I like right now. but WOW! I didn't expect it to mean that! That means a lot to me, you just don't know. The scripture and it's meaning I mean. Wow. So I guess it will all be worth it, more than we know. Wow. Because sometimes I get so damn weary and just wonder what the whole point is, and then I feel bad because I KNOW how much Jesus did, and DOES for us every day. Okay, back to work for now....

  12. I'm not looking for a lengthy explanation, or discussion...my brain just doesn't work like that....but can somebody simplify this for me? Especially verse 19. What does that mean? The revealing of the son's of God? Thank you!

19 For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, [a]in hope 21 that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.

  13. A GEICO commercial aye? lol. I usually pay attention to some of those commercials too, depending on how cute they are. Right now I like the birdseye commercials with the wolves and bears. I digress, I know. hmmmmm. Geez, somebody else would get this I know. lol.I know I know who this is too.

  14. The heroes are DC Comics characters.

    George

Oh geez. I used to read creepy and eerie and vampirella and Archie and Little Lotta and Dot and Casper and Wendy the Witch and peanuts and dennis the menace and those really trashy horror comics and that's about it.

  15. Just saw this-I know I'll kick myself, but I can't think of the answer. Something tells me when I find out I'll remember 50 things about the show.

Well you will probably get it before I do, that's for sure.

In the "Jump the Shark" episode of Batman B&B, they go through all of the ways to JTS listed on that website, including having Ted McGinley on! laugh.gif

    George

I'd enjoy that episode. I was a jump the shark fanatic. They tried to resurrect that site but it just wasn't the same. Okay, sorry, :offtopic:/> Back to guessing the cartoon.

  16. Interesting that you should bring that up.

Originally, the comic book "The Brave and the Bold" ("B&B") introduced new characters to the DC lineup, as did "Showcase." Starting with #50, it became a team-up book. (This doesn't count the introduction of teams like the Suicide Squad and the Justice League.) Starting with #74, and through the rest of its run (to #200), all the team-ups featured Batman as one hero. For a time, the last panel of an issue gave a clue to the identity of the next issue's partner. Incidentally, the comic book "World's Finest" changed its format from being a Batman-Superman team-up to a Superman-whoever team-up book, which also, if I recall correctly, had a clue at the end of each nook as to the team-up character in the next. The recent "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" cartoon featured Batman with other heroes, each week; but that is not the show I have in mind. (The last episode, entitled "Jumping the Shark," was a real hoot!)

This cartoon came even before "Super-Friends."

    George

I used to love the jump the shark website. Anway,

Well I did a quick peek as to when Super Friends was, (that's not cheating! And I only looked for 2 seconds!) and it said it was something like 1973. So I'm assuming it was before that. hmmmmm. hmmmmm.

  17. just tell them your mother is famous her name is rosemary - and you are satan's child

Oh my goodness exie, you're on a roll today! smile.gif

By the way, I've been looking at those "How to respond to JW books, and the ones I've looked at so far are all about how to debate the trinity. Sigh. Not exactly what I'm looking for. I don't want to get into any doctrinal debates with them. I just want to be able to answer them as to why they think they need to knock on doors (they bring up that part about Jesus sending people out as disciples) and why they are so sure they are the only ones with the truth. But I 'll probably just grab a sandwich and hide.

  18. I guess I'll go.

This cartoon show featured two main heroes. It also had a guest hero each week, and a mystery clue for you to guess who next week's guest star would be.

This is probably too easy (at least for hiway and WW); but, we'll see.

    George

OH geez. Cartoons are such a guy thing. IMO. wink.gif

OKAY, I'll take a crack. Even though it's WRONG. Scooby Doo. that's my guess. sigh.
