  1. Dear Mike: I think this whole thread is best summed up by the famous Swedish novelty song from the late 1940's. Here it is in the orginal text: Far! EWB
  2. Dear Trefor: First of all let me give you a belated welcome to the GreaseSpot Cafe. I read your story and I was very blessed. You wrote honestly and dispassionately about your experiences. What I found most disarming was your willingness to discuss your private feelings and emotions. I think you have the blood of a Welsh bard running in your veins. The part of your story that really brought back fond memories to me was when you spoke of the UK Believers. I was in England and Scotland in 1986 and I had met some of the people that you mentioned. I recalled how many of the Believers treated me with great kindness and went out of their way to be hospitable. I especially remember the twig in Edinburgh. When I came back to the States I continued to write to a number of people. Chris Kent asked me to join him to help take care of Muller's grave site in Bristol. I did not, but when I read your story I wish I had accompanied him. Who knows, maybe I might even have met you there. EWB
  3. Dear Padwan Magi: I understand being drawn to unusual instruments. My second accordion is very ugly. I bought for $ 20.00 so I can use it when I go camping. It has a silver body with gold colored bellows! When I play it in the bright sunshine people have to avert their eyes. Dear Diazbro: Have you seen the movie "A Mighty Wind"? It is about the folk music scene and it was written by the same people who did "Spinal Tap". EWB
  4. Believe it or not two years ago I decided to take up the accordion. I am having a great time with it. I also play the bass accordion in an ensamble. When I get good enough I want to specilize in Irish folk tunes. EWB
  5. dear alfakat: Bravo for your post. I think that you have clearly stated what needed to be said. The sow's ear/silk purse analogy was very approriate. e.w.b.
  6. I like the single clarinet doing a cresendo in "Rhapsody in Blue". EWB
  7. Dear Hope and Chas: Thanks for looking for the song for me. I was just hoping that someone out here in GreaseSpot land has a recording of the song. You may want to know why I want it. Last spring I took a trip to a Shaker village in Kentucky. I saw the artisans in costume who were making Shaker style products, and they made the place seem like it was still alive. However it was a perforamnce group that did Shaker songs and dances that made me understand who they really were. I think that song exemplifies the worst of the TWI 2 era. EWB
  8. Dear Ex: Since it is the Super Bowl you really should have an American beer. If you root for the Raiders you could serve something from Anchor Brewing which is based in San Fran. They make a great brew called "Steam Beer". It is pricy, but good. If you go bonkers for the Bucks then I don't want to talk to you. They killed our beloved Eagles. I think there are a few micro-breweries in Fla so just see what they have. For my regular beer I drink a local brewery's offering. They make a good and reasonably priced ale. You could always ask your friends what they drink at home. Hope this has been helpful. EWB
  9. Dear Ex: The food at your party sounds great. I made a pork shoulder for last Sunday's game. I am a bit shocked that British people will drink coors and corona. The UK has a great tradition of brewing and those beers just don't make the grade. EWB
  10. Dear Stayed Too Long: What an honest and heart felt post. There are times when I felt like I too had "stayed too long". I have a similar background, I was raised RC with lots of spiritulism thrown in to the mix. So when I got deliverance from that stuff I felt a deep sense of gratitiude to the Way. I also saw with horror the ever creeping legalism and hard heartedness of leadership. I like you was M/A and it hurt for quite a while. So remember all of the good things and put the unpleasant things behind you. We still do have the Bible and we can read it for ourselves. All of the present problems now with the ministry are due to the doctines of men and not God. I will be praying for you. Sincerely, EWB P.S. Did you get your title from the National Public Radio show? That is one of my favorite things to listen to.
  11. Dear Chatty Cathy and Night Melody: Thanks for the info. I was hopeing that someone might have written down the words or remembered the melody. It was said that Mozart could hear a piece of music once and then he could flawlessly perform it. I am sure there is one person of that caliber in this forum. Music is a great way to peek into an organization's heart. Sincerely, EWB
  12. Dear Gspotters: Does anyone have the sheet music for the song mentioned on this web site "Wash My Feet In The Blood of the Wicked"? I've never heard the song and I am intrigued. If sheet music was never published does someone have a tape of the melody line and chorus? Thanks! EWB
  13. When will this thread ever end? My high school English teacher always used to write on my too wordy essays: It is better to be brief than tedious. Shakespear Richard III, act i, sc 4 EWB
  14. Dear Greasespot: Everyone needs to quit picking on Mike. He does have some unpopular ideas, but he does have the right to speak them in this forum. It is sad to see the underlying sarcasm in quite a few of the posts. E.W.B.
