Hi, socks. I was in the market for a new axe, was just gonna get another Strat, but figgured I'd look around. I tried the Les Paul, I could not put it down. The sound was amazing. The action was nicer than the newer strats I tried. The whole feel of it was just right, I knew I had to get it. I have a small Fender (I think its 15 watts) amp, I use it more for church than anything, it fills the room nicely. I have a distortion pedal which does its job nicely, but I really don’t like to use it unless necessary. I'd rather play clean. I tried a wah wah at a friends house, have always been intrigued by them, maybe Ill get one if the price is right. Sounds like you have allot of experience, have you played professionally or anything like that? Ken

Hi, everyone. Just want to be a part of this thread, looks like lots of fun. I dont know that much about them, I have been playing for quite a while or more accurately have owned one for quite a while. I currently own an Epiphone Les Paul, dont know the year or anything else, has a sumburst finish. I gave away my strat to a young aspiring guitarist when I got this one. My wife got the strat for $60.00 form someone who found it in a closet in the apartment they moved into. Neither one know the value, it had some cracks in the finish so to them it seemed like a fair price. Speaking of Sears, my friend had a Sears electric guitar, I was stuck with possibly the cheapest acoustic my father could find. His was easy to play, mine REAL hard. His had 4 pickups, which meant it HAD to be good! (we were 12 or so) I just cant remember the name of the Sears one. Mine was Teleno (something like that), a regular boat anchor. Saw a used one at the music store, would not sentance any kid to play it. Ken
  3. Sudo, That has to be one of the Coolest songs for TV. :biglaugh: I always thought it consisted of whisteling and bass, but I could hear the guitar very distinctly on the download. Very nice, indeed. Yes, I'm smiling. Ken
  4. Thanks, Rick. :) Both of these lyrics were features in some comedy type of thing recently (within the last 5 yrs) Up untill that time, my wife really thought the lyrics were bathroom on the right. There were some others who thought this too, so I was wondering if anyone here did and if they would admit to it. In fact, a google search yielded some websights for misheard lyrics. Sort of cool.
  5. Hi, Cowgirl. That was really nice. Hi, Rick, Moony. I have sort of a nostalgic question for anyone out there, sort of silly really, but here goes: Did any of you at some point believe that "there's a bathroom on the right" were the actual lyrics in a popular song? Name the song, fess up if you did (or still do) Ken
  6. Sorry, Sudo. Not a clue. It wouldnt be Emerson, Lake & Palmer, would it? Ken
  7. Sudo, THanks for making me feel welcome here. I love that version! I'm gonna hazard a guess that the band is Benny Goodman, not that I'm an expert but I saw the Frank Sinatra movie and I remember the 'BG' logo on the front of those things in front of the band players and that he played a ?clarinet? ?recorder? whatever those small wind things are. Oh, and I have a DSL connection. My tastes are varied as to the kind of nostalgic music I like. When I was young, Rock & Roll was all I listened to. Not top 40 stuff, but the real deal, ya know? I mean some of what they play as 'classic rock' today makes me want to barf, it was the same stuff I hated when it was new. I used to listen to 'underground' radio stations (actually just 1, how many can an area have?) That being said, I guess I gravitate towards anything bluesy. As far as classical, I like the tunes that are well known, 1812 overature, hall of the mountain king (or whatever its called) swan lake, more but I cant remember. Kathy, thanks again for the welcome. Strange brew gets boring after a while (IMO), would be a fun song to play along with, but Paper Moon is more intersting, even having the solo near the end. Moony, thanks for the 'strange brew' Congrats on you 1K pos!
  8. Hi, everyone Sorry for not getting here sooner, I was away since early this morning. The show is .... (drum roll) The Virginian Gonna rest now, see you tonight Ken Thanks for the songs, Kathy, Sudo. This may seem odd to some, but I enjoyed 'Paper Moon' more than Strange Brew.
  9. Kathy, do you mean me? I was doing a 'refresh' on the last page, wondering why no one was posting after me. Took me 45 minutes to see that a new page was added!!!! The answer contains 'gin' as in gin 'n tonic or gin rummy (dont want to spoil it if there are any other contenders) Ken PS: I really that Cream song a couple of pages back. It is near the top of my list.
  10. I KNOW WHAT IT IS!!!! Should I give it away? The answer is Soooo obvious, thanks Highway, Sudo, and especially Moony, for some reason the answer came when I read your hint. Kathy, Ill listen later.
  11. Sudo, what makes you think I have a computer at home??? Just kidding, I do, and I can hear them. I don't recognize it though. I wasnt much into westerns except Gunsmoke (my mom used to watch it) and Bonanza. Even with Bonanza, I lost a $5.00 bet on what the theme song was. In fact, it JUST occoured to me, this song was the one I had confused with the theme for Bonanza. It is on the tip of my tounge, but I just can't recall it!!! I dont know if a hint will help, I think I was aware of the show, but hardly watched it. We shall see, it may just come to me. (i'm thinking "The Big something" or something with prarie, wide) Ken
  12. (Kathy's second pic was from "Dr. Strangelove," or more properly, "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.") Thanks George, I remember now. I think I was a little young to see "Strangelove" when it first came out, but there are a few movies of that era that remind me of each other. Kathy, I promise to do my duty, to the thread and GSC, to endeavor to keep this at the top !!
  13. hi, yaall I can't comment on tha audio clips because this darn computer at work has no audio hardware installed. But your 2nd picture, Kathy, wasnt that from 'Fail Safe'? or some similar mid 60's doomsday button type of movie? There were a couple, but I cant remember them now. Ken
  14. Sometimes guys get into ruts of existence. As we become settled in our ways, life becomes pretty hum drum. The kids are older, perhaps not at home any more. It hit me really big last night when I was complaining about the TV programs that were preempted for football games, or whatever, I was sort of down because none of my shows were on. Since when did I give a rats arse about the state of TV shows? It never mattered before, but my 'routine' was broken for yet another night. I was very annoyed. I am in a rut. I need help !!! :D--> About this particular author: I started listening to 'Focus on the Family' after my favorite Christian station went off the air. They are a little too extreme (conservatively) for my taste, but I like them better than the non secular AM stations. I have heard this guy speak. Nothing too radical, certianly not any of the markings of Cult. Just a cool idea, getting some of us who have become settled in our ways to get outside of our routine and see what we can do in the way of being an active participant in life. Sometimes a gentle reminder helps us get back on track. :)-->
