    Guitar Talk

Hi, socks. I was in the market for a new axe, was just gonna get another Strat, but figgured I'd look around. I tried the Les Paul, I could not put it down. The sound was amazing. The action was nicer than the newer strats I tried. The whole feel of it was just right, I knew I had to get it. I have a small Fender (I think its 15 watts) amp, I use it more for church than anything, it fills the room nicely. I have a distortion pedal which does its job nicely, but I really don’t like to use it unless necessary. I'd rather play clean. I tried a wah wah at a friends house, have always been intrigued by them, maybe Ill get one if the price is right. Sounds like you have allot of experience, have you played professionally or anything like that? Ken

    Guitar Talk

Hi, everyone. Just want to be a part of this thread, looks like lots of fun. I dont know that much about them, I have been playing for quite a while or more accurately have owned one for quite a while. I currently own an Epiphone Les Paul, dont know the year or anything else, has a sumburst finish. I gave away my strat to a young aspiring guitarist when I got this one. My wife got the strat for $60.00 form someone who found it in a closet in the apartment they moved into. Neither one know the value, it had some cracks in the finish so to them it seemed like a fair price. Speaking of Sears, my friend had a Sears electric guitar, I was stuck with possibly the cheapest acoustic my father could find. His was easy to play, mine REAL hard. His had 4 pickups, which meant it HAD to be good! (we were 12 or so) I just cant remember the name of the Sears one. Mine was Teleno (something like that), a regular boat anchor. Saw a used one at the music store, would not sentance any kid to play it. Ken
  3. Sudo, That has to be one of the Coolest songs for TV. :biglaugh: I always thought it consisted of whisteling and bass, but I could hear the guitar very distinctly on the download. Very nice, indeed. Yes, I'm smiling. Ken
  4. Thanks, Rick. :) Both of these lyrics were features in some comedy type of thing recently (within the last 5 yrs) Up untill that time, my wife really thought the lyrics were bathroom on the right. There were some others who thought this too, so I was wondering if anyone here did and if they would admit to it. In fact, a google search yielded some websights for misheard lyrics. Sort of cool.
  5. Hi, Cowgirl. That was really nice. Hi, Rick, Moony. I have sort of a nostalgic question for anyone out there, sort of silly really, but here goes: Did any of you at some point believe that "there's a bathroom on the right" were the actual lyrics in a popular song? Name the song, fess up if you did (or still do) Ken
  6. Sorry, Sudo. Not a clue. It wouldnt be Emerson, Lake & Palmer, would it? Ken
  7. Sudo, THanks for making me feel welcome here. I love that version! I'm gonna hazard a guess that the band is Benny Goodman, not that I'm an expert but I saw the Frank Sinatra movie and I remember the 'BG' logo on the front of those things in front of the band players and that he played a ?clarinet? ?recorder? whatever those small wind things are. Oh, and I have a DSL connection. My tastes are varied as to the kind of nostalgic music I like. When I was young, Rock & Roll was all I listened to. Not top 40 stuff, but the real deal, ya know? I mean some of what they play as 'classic rock' today makes me want to barf, it was the same stuff I hated when it was new. I used to listen to 'underground' radio stations (actually just 1, how many can an area have?) That being said, I guess I gravitate towards anything bluesy. As far as classical, I like the tunes that are well known, 1812 overature, hall of the mountain king (or whatever its called) swan lake, more but I cant remember. Kathy, thanks again for the welcome. Strange brew gets boring after a while (IMO), would be a fun song to play along with, but Paper Moon is more intersting, even having the solo near the end. Moony, thanks for the 'strange brew' Congrats on you 1K pos!
  8. Hi, everyone Sorry for not getting here sooner, I was away since early this morning. The show is .... (drum roll) The Virginian Gonna rest now, see you tonight Ken Thanks for the songs, Kathy, Sudo. This may seem odd to some, but I enjoyed 'Paper Moon' more than Strange Brew.
  9. Kathy, do you mean me? I was doing a 'refresh' on the last page, wondering why no one was posting after me. Took me 45 minutes to see that a new page was added!!!! The answer contains 'gin' as in gin 'n tonic or gin rummy (dont want to spoil it if there are any other contenders) Ken PS: I really that Cream song a couple of pages back. It is near the top of my list.
  10. I KNOW WHAT IT IS!!!! Should I give it away? The answer is Soooo obvious, thanks Highway, Sudo, and especially Moony, for some reason the answer came when I read your hint. Kathy, Ill listen later.
  11. Sudo, what makes you think I have a computer at home??? Just kidding, I do, and I can hear them. I don't recognize it though. I wasnt much into westerns except Gunsmoke (my mom used to watch it) and Bonanza. Even with Bonanza, I lost a $5.00 bet on what the theme song was. In fact, it JUST occoured to me, this song was the one I had confused with the theme for Bonanza. It is on the tip of my tounge, but I just can't recall it!!! I dont know if a hint will help, I think I was aware of the show, but hardly watched it. We shall see, it may just come to me. (i'm thinking "The Big something" or something with prarie, wide) Ken
  12. (Kathy's second pic was from "Dr. Strangelove," or more properly, "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.") Thanks George, I remember now. I think I was a little young to see "Strangelove" when it first came out, but there are a few movies of that era that remind me of each other. Kathy, I promise to do my duty, to the thread and GSC, to endeavor to keep this at the top !!
  13. hi, yaall I can't comment on tha audio clips because this darn computer at work has no audio hardware installed. But your 2nd picture, Kathy, wasnt that from 'Fail Safe'? or some similar mid 60's doomsday button type of movie? There were a couple, but I cant remember them now. Ken
  14. Sometimes guys get into ruts of existence. As we become settled in our ways, life becomes pretty hum drum. The kids are older, perhaps not at home any more. It hit me really big last night when I was complaining about the TV programs that were preempted for football games, or whatever, I was sort of down because none of my shows were on. Since when did I give a rats arse about the state of TV shows? It never mattered before, but my 'routine' was broken for yet another night. I was very annoyed. I am in a rut. I need help !!! :D--> About this particular author: I started listening to 'Focus on the Family' after my favorite Christian station went off the air. They are a little too extreme (conservatively) for my taste, but I like them better than the non secular AM stations. I have heard this guy speak. Nothing too radical, certianly not any of the markings of Cult. Just a cool idea, getting some of us who have become settled in our ways to get outside of our routine and see what we can do in the way of being an active participant in life. Sometimes a gentle reminder helps us get back on track. :)-->

    Another GS Wedding?

Congratulations !! REALLY COOL !!! I had a feeling about the two of you. ken
  16. Hi, CK. Nice to see you again. We got a new puter w/DSL so I can come here when I'm at home too.
  17. Hi, everyone. It's been a while but I thought I'd add my 2 cents. I like the saying when it is used as it was originally intended, that is, to get one to stop and think about what they are doing. Like any other 'good' thing, it can be mis-used if it falls into the wrong hands. I think the thing I find most delightful is the fact that we can discuss weather we like it or not, we can agree to disagree, and even modify our opinion as we gain a wider perspective based on what other posters say. This is the greatness of GSC. love, Ken
  18. Catcup: what an AMAZING post !!! All others: excellent food for for thought. I have pondered forgiveness since it came up here last time. I realize that forgiveness cannot be legislated, I have no right to demand anyone here to 'get over it', yet I also know that forgiveness is a large step towards personal healing. Since we are all at varying degrees of healing from TWI, we cannot make a broad decree for all to 'forgive'. It will come as an individual is ready to do it. I have learned that forgiveness does NOT involve: -Forgetting (as in "forgive 'n forget) -solicitation by the offender -trusting the offender like it never happened What it does involve: -me and God I think it is good to address this topic every so often, for me it adds perspective to it. Thanks for bringing it up, Research Geek.
  19. Also, can you imagine the HELL Treyfor went through, being gay and in twi? It is real easy to not like gays from an abstract point of view, Twi definitely re-inforced any anti gay sentiments that one may have had coming in to it. Perhaps it is time to re-examine the knee-jerk reaction we exibit when presented with ideas contrary to our experiences. Just some food for thought, Ken
  20. WD: I agree with you totally on this. Trashing things just for the sake of trashing can be misleading, can add salt to a wound and can help GSC as a whole loose credibility. On the other hand, posters DO like to vent, so I take some of what is said with a grain of salt. One of the lessons I have learned through the whole twi experience is to not take things by blind faith. I do not NEED some leader teaching the depths of the Word in order to be spiritually fulfilled, I NEED to get off my butt and DO things for His children, not just throw out a teaching and go home. But, i'm ranting now. Back to the topic: For me, the bottom line of that class is this: 1. It WAS inappropriate, or at least, just a primer. I feel that sexual matters should be taught by people of the same sex, the exception being if there is an EXPERT in the field. Vpw was no expert. He set himself up to look like one. To us who trusted him, he was. Looking back, much of the info is dated and narrow minded. Women's sexuality taught by a man. What a laugh. It is NOT the final word in sex ed, but the MOGFODAT taught it, so it must be all we needd, right? 2. Most people remember only 1 thing from that class after all these years- his definition of original sin. He could not show us in black and white ("if the bible does not tell us, we do not know" was the exhortation in pfal) so we had to rely on his interpretation. Why was that a part of the class if the research was incomplete, or whatever he said about it? Shock value. Really heavy stuff! God must be REALLY working with him !! Again, to us neophytes in the word, what the MOGFODAT says must be true, right? 3. On the plus side, I must say that the class did instill in me the mindset of sex as a way of giving, of satisfying my partner for it to be fulfilling. I do not know if I have this because of the class or because of the kind of person I am, but it did at least reinforce this value in me. my apologies for such a long post. love, ken
  21. Boy, this is REALLY a hot topic. Way to go Rottie. I haven't posted for a while, but this one got me !! It seems to me that I came away from that class with a distinct sense that it was mainly directed at the women. -How she should treat her man (we're just little boys, all grown up). How she shouldn't nag at him, how she should look pretty for him, she should have sexy nighties set aside for special times, she should have the home peaceful for him when he comes home from work, etc, etc. But I must add that I (myself) also thought that if a man was to receive such adoration from a woman, he must be doing something to deserve it. This was my take on it, I could not imagine someone getting this kind of treatment just because that is the way it is supposed to be. Looking back, I now see how lopsided the teachings and exhortations were. I think it is in this class where he makes statements like "there is no clear cut teaching about fornication in the New Testament" and "if you knew the freedom you had in Christ, it would blow your minds". These statements, made in this class setting, clarified the meaning of the statement made in plaf: 'love God, love your neighbor and do as you damn fool please' Makes ya wonder if vpw had an agenda, huh? ps- eggs in the hole: was that in the class? I don't remember. Sounds pretty erotic to me! later, ken
  22. hi, upon, welcome to GSC. My taste in music is real broad, from some classical to blues, rock, and most other ganras (sp?) I tend to like blusey rock type immediately but other kinds grow on me after a few hearings. some favorites: Midnight Rider (Rolling Stones) I know a little (lynyrd skinnard) You shook me (prefer Led Zepplin version but others are good too) One Way Out (Allman bro's)(perfer live ver) I like 'Take it easy', and most Eagle songs too. I listen to allot of jazz on the radio. I like the songs where you can recognize the melody. Last night as I drove my son home from the mall he played his new Disney CD. When A song from the movie 'Mary Poppins' came on, I lost it, had tears in my eyes. Some songs just do that to me. The only for sure tear jerker up till this point was 'Momma Sang Bass' by Earl & Scruggs, although the Statler Brothers version will if I'm 1/2 way there. I never really know what songs will bring on this kind of mood. love, ken
  23. Paw, it does seem faster, almost like there is very low traffic. Thanks !
  24. Are you referring to those times when vpw had the young girls (18-21 still a girl in my book) performing sexual favors for "the man of God for our day"? I did not see this with my eyes but have enough CREDIBLE evidence so as to cause me to question EVERYTHING tha man taught. His fruit was rotton and, as Jesus said, "you will know them by their fruit" Without the influence of PFAL, I am free to really know God's will and have a definite relationship with Jesus. The Bible fits allot better, too.
