Ok, Since I have had no time to respond to you Ex-10 (I mean e-mail wise I'm posting to say hello.) Keynote says hello and loved hearing about your wonderful J. Keynote is doing computers now, but his first love is music of course. Still plays alot of piano and has recently taken his horn out of the closet. Should be interesting to see what happens in the near future. I think I'm going to invest in some good earplugs for the first while. :D--> Daggoo: Yes, you are correct. Go past go, collect $200.00 dollars. Congrats and I was serious about Montréal! :P--> Keynote was also overjoyed to hear from you and I'll send an e-mail off soon. Buck, you're still here? Hee, hee! :P--> Steve, I know what you look like now! It's payback time for what you did to me on the invisible thread.... :P--> :o--> :D--> I'll type later... 'til the next time...
  3. Alfie, I just e-mailed you! Enjoy! We do know each other after all! Too cool~ I love this thread. Been busy, but have read every word that had been posted since I was last here! Socks Quack, squawk, quack... Avril Lavigne, great song. And I could never make out the words. They're cool! Yana That was very touching what you wrote about Joni's song. Of course it's one of my faves. It's such a soulful song. And of course she's the only one who could deliver it like that! I love this thread, I love this thread, I love this thread, I love this thread... Thanks Chatty! 'til the next time...
  4. Ok, one more Joni tune and I'm done! (ya' right -->) The Circle Game by Joni Mitchell -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yesterday a child came out to wonder Caught a dragonfly inside a jar Fearful when the sky was full of thunder And tearful at the falling of a star Then the child moved ten times round the seasons Skated over ten clear frozen streams Words like when you're older must appease him And promises of someday make his dreams And the seasons they go round and round And the painted ponies go up and down We're captive on the carousel of time We can't return we can only look Behind from where we came And go round and round and round In the circle game Sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone now Cartwheels turn to car wheels thru the town And they tell him take your time it won't be long now Till you drag your feet to slow the circles down And the seasons they go round and round And the painted ponies go up and down We're captive on the carousel of time We can't return we can only look Behind from where we came And go round and round and round In the circle game So the years spin by and now the boy is twenty Though his dreams have lost some grandeur coming true There'll be new dreams maybe better dreams and plenty Before the last revolving year is through And the seasons they go round and round And the painted ponies go up and down We're captive on the carousel of time We can't return we can only look Behind from where we came And go round and round and round In the circle game _______________________________________________ Socks, I would love to hear you do that song! I had never heard of those recordings Alfakat mentioned. Me, Madame Musique, I'm shocked! Alfa-kool-kat You da' man. What a picture! Thanks, except I don't recognize you. :(--> Well, I recognize your words and that's all that counts. Cats! We have two. One is named 'Mama' (she gave birth to a litter of 6. Ouchh! ) and the other is - I know you won't believe this but yes 'Alfa - fa'. He's black and white and thinks he's the coolest dude on the block! Well, jazz is your love. Well, we have been going down memory lane on the folk scene here lately, but not much jazz talked about ... what was happening with the jazz scene in the early 70's? Was that when Dave Brubeck came out with 'Take 5'? Hey, Keynote has said he heard for years that Dave Brubeck's daughter was in the corps? Anyone know? 'til the next time...
  5. Alfa, You have such a cool name Kat! It's perfect for our cool music thread with all our cool music dudes and dudettes! You mention Joni and my heart goes to jello. Oh my, what a woman. I never enjoyed Joni 'til the early '80's. I went and got a few of her earlier albums like Court and Spark and Blue and completely overdosed for a couple of years. I'm like that. I find something I like musically and I'm off. I can't get enough! COURT AND SPARK Love came to my door With a sleeping roll And a madman's soul He thought for sure I'd seen him Dancing up a river in the dark Looking for a woman To court and spark He was playing on the sidewalk For passing change When something strange happened Glory train passed through him So he buried the coins he made In People's Park And went looking for a woman To court and spark It seemed like he read my mind He saw me mistrusting him And still acting kind He saw how I worried sometimes I worry sometimes "All the guilty people," he said They've all seen the stain- On their daily bread On their christian names I cleared myself I sacrificed my blues And you could complete me I'd complete you His eyes were the color of the sand And the sea And the more he talked to me The more he reached me But I couldn't let go of L.A. City of the fallen angels _______________________________________________ Socks, 'Prayers, Poems and Promises', did you have to edit the part of the song where it says in the chorus "Sit and pass the pipe around"? :o--> Chorus: And I have to say it now It's been a good life all in all It's really fine To have a chance to hang around And lie there by the fire And watch the evening tire While all my friends and my old lady SIT AND PASS THE PIPE AROUND I'm so happy Chatty's back, 'cause this is a tough gig hostin' this joint! Love ya! 'til the next time...
  6. Chatty! :D--> All is well! Yeahh! And I thought this was going to be a week long thing! I'm guessing things went better than anticipated! Yippee! I wish I knew how to do all those fancy dancing pictures on my posts! :(--> I think you have had a cyberspace mentor ~ Hope, where are you Hope? Hope I need you! Well, if I could do all that fancy jazzy stuff, my post would be a huge happy face blowing kisses and 2 huge arms giving you a great big cyber squeeze! :D--> 'til the next time... Daggoo, Yes, keynote played Trombone in Way Orchestra for many years. Tall and bearded too with glasses. Who are you? Getting married in Montréal, can I come? Please, please, please. :D--> Jan? Married to 10th Corps person who's mom was a Dr.???? Hi Buckie! Nice to see you here. I know who Ex-10 is, I know who Ex-10 is, I know who Ex-10 is... (it only took 4 months to figure it out! :D--> ) And, that's because she e-mailed me this morning and told me! --> I'm such a detective!!! Ex-10, Thanks for the e-mail! I got it. I called hubby at work and he spewed off all the instruments your hubby could play. He's pulling out the ole' Orchestra picture to point your hubby out tonight. He was always impressed with your hubbies musical abilities! During ROA's I used to call myself an "Orchestra widow". I know it's a morbid joke, but I never saw him :(-->. 'til the next time... Daggoo, A la here. Keynote is busy trying to think of who you are. He remembers the incidents but can't place a name or face. Heikki was one of Keynotes best friends in-rez. (you know, those musicians have to stick together). I was in the 12th corps for one year so I would have been at Emporia when you took your leave-of-absence from JAL and PL. Gee, I wish you had let me know, I would have gladly jumped into your trunk to get away from that institution! 'til the next time...
  9. Burn the Chaff! Ya', I remember gettin' rid of stuff! :(--> I know this will sound silly, but all my John Denver albums (I know most of you are doing the dance of joy right now) and all my John Denver guitar books. Recently, my niece has started to play guitar. I know she would have appreciated having all my books to learn from. She's into the 'oldies' (as they so lovingly called it today) :o--> I remember thinking what a sacrifice I was making! Somehow, after throwing all that away I was now going to become more --> spiritual! --> I'm sure there were things people needed to get rid of that were beneficial to their lives, but I know John Denver albums and music books would not have made any difference in the long run! Hey Hope, go ahead and share your incident! I little de-railment is always a good thing! 'til the next time...

Ex-10, I am Keynotes wife (spouse corps). I have tried to contact you but you have no e-mail addy. Please help! Buck I know, but who is Daggoo? Keynote and I are very curious! 'til the next time...
  11. Surprise! I'm Back! Buck, ya like he was so talented --> Ted, nice to see ya' bro. I'm waiting for your 1974 synopsis! White Album ~ Beatles: Martha My Dear. My husband plays this on the piano. I love hearing him play it. He picked it up by ear when the song came out. It is known in our household as "Mom's favourite song :D-->" Dad is usually playing Bach, or Debussy, or Beethoven or something other than Beatles, but he always plays that song if I request it. My oldest daughter plays piano as well and she loves 'Martha My Dear'. It's so neat to see your kids enjoy this music. If she had never been exposed to it, she would have never had the chance to appreciate it. 'til the next time...
  12. Chatty, My prayers are with you and hubby Cliff too. Glad to see you are holding up well and you will certainly be missed around here! I'll try to check in more often than usual, (ya, like I don't as it is :D-->) but thems pretty big shoes to fill! Love ya! 'til the next time...
  13. Hope, Hair, Hair, and more Hair! I love it. I thought these guys were the cats meow. There sound was great! There sound was raw and it was real. You must be so proud they were from your hometown (or state). I remember them being on the PFAL'77 video (I think it was) and Joe talking about his drinking problem and how his life changed when he became born again. Chatty, Yup, I loved Oak's post too! This is for him. :D--> 'til the next time...
  14. Linda, I can't believe it. I was just coming back to my favourite thread :D--> and thinking to myself,"Self, you should find those words to that Kathy Mattea's song you mentioned and post them." As I returned, poof, Magically they appeared. That was so cool! Thanks! Yup, thems them. They are so beautiful. And yes, like you said, without her beautiful voice it doesn't do the lyrics justice does it. I heard her do that song on Johnnie Carson one late night (pun intended :P-->)and went out the next morning and bought the album. The whole album was magnificient. Her voice reminded me a little bit of Vicki Allen's voice. Vicki was such a talented woman. When she would sing her stuff, (the stuff that suited her) man oh man, no one could hold a candle to her as far as I was concerned. OK, I'm derailing here... Yes, Kathy and that song, I got all chocked-up just reading the words again. Thanks LINDA Z. :)--> 'til the next time...
  15. Socks, Wow, 'Dance With Me'! Don't know how I missed that one when I checked the tunes of 1973. What a beautiful song! I read the words and sang the whole tune in my head. What a trip! Buck, John Prine, there was a song I used to play of his I'm sure. I'll have to get back on that on. Nice words to that song. I used to love introducing 'Secular' music into twig. It was such a nice change!!! And so often, the words in 'secular' music were more heart wrenching and not so packaged as in TWI (IMO). Socks touched on this I believe. Chatty, you're so quick with things. You always amaze me. So James Taylor is no commie after all! :D--> My gut feeling was that, but it sure put a damper on things after I was told such hog-wash. I have never had the privilege to see JT live, but when I have seen him perform on television, he is so soothing. His presence is so peaceful. His eyes are so piercing. And such a distinctive voice. And he seems so 'unmoved' by all his success. Just wants to make good music. I find that this is the signature of a true musician. Buck, your song reminded me of another song like John Prine's, it's a little sadder but just as touching. Kathy Mattea had it on her first album. Must hunt it up. Well, I hate to leave but this world is a tough place to live in sometimes (to paraphrase Buck)and then there is this wonderful thread here on GS. Oak, you can come by anytime when you need a break from the Mike Wars. We are always playing good music and the coffee/tea is hot too . Hi to Ted and Hope too! Hope, loved your story about going back to the room and blasting the 'White Album'. What a rebel! Good for you! The White Album... 1. Back in the U.S.S.R. 2. Dear Prudence 3. Glass onion 4. Revolution 9 30. Good (This album released in 1968 and most of the songs have endured the test of time.) I love Sarah McLaughlin's remake of 'Blackbird'. Man we could post for days on these songs alone! See Ya! 'til the next time...
  16. Hey everybody, Thanks for all the input on the book. I don't have much time, but I'll be back. Ahhhhh, Norah Jones too cool! :D--> The only thing I heard about Norah Jones is that she is Ravi Shankar's daughter. Must check that one out. Ok, since we are talking about Dylan, must mention another name I grew up listening to (via guitar playing brother and that was JOHN PRINE). I saw him on a music special awhile ago. See Ya. 'til the next time...
  17. Socks and Buck, Thanks Socks! I'm sure others here will appreciate your e-mail/post. Maybe get some good discussion going on 'subversive' music and all! Buck, yes I had heard that same story about Dylan's monkey wrench and just trying to cash in on the Christian Music scene since his sales were down or something like that? It's weird the stuff we heard at times??? --> Dylan was again a bit before my time, but my brother was a huge Dylan fan and played lots of his songs on his guitar. I remember seeing the lyrics to Dylan's songs go for pages sometimes. He sure had lots to say! :D--> Talking about communists and all. I was told by my RC that James Taylor was a communist. I lent my RC one of my James Taylor tapes at one point. The "Never Die Young' album which I thought had some pretty neat songs on it. One song was called, 'Home By Another Way' which talked about the Magi and King Herod and the other one was 'Never Die Young' which my husband always thought was talking about the return. But, the RC decided that the song 'First of May' showed that James Taylor was a communist since May 1st is a celebrated communistic holiday. That was the end of James Taylor for me (for awhile anyhow). I wish I had never lent him that tape, I would have enjoyed Mr. Taylor for many more years! --> 'til the next time...
  18. Hello everyone! Thanks Chatty for the #1 albums of '73. Unfortanely, I was still pretty young to be buying albums in '73. :(-->. I think they were about $5.99 to $7.99 a piece if I remember correctly. Alot of money for someone who would babysit all night and make $5.00 Alison Krauss album. Was this Union Station perhaps? That is the name of her band. Ron Block is the guy who wrote that wonderful gospel song I posted on Christmas eve or day? Dan Tyminski also a band member. He wrote and performed 'Man of Constant Sorrow' and got an Grammy for it too. :D--> OK, I've been thinking about something for you music heads out there. CALLING ALL MUSIC HEADS, CALLING ALL MUSIC HEADS... My question is: When I took a look at those top 100 songs of '73, there was a few Beatles tunes if I recall correctly. Anyhow, I was never much of a Beatle nut, since they were a little before my time, but I do enjoy their stuff now. Anyhow, it got me thinking about that book that was promoted by TWI (Advance Class)'The Marxist Minstrels'. There was alot of Beatles music mentioned in that book and how their music was subversive, as well as Arlo Guthrie and that folk revival that happened in the 60's. This book was pretty tough to get through. Did this book really have any validity to it? Or maybe was it just a scare tactic so we wouldn't listen to secular music? I realize music is a very powerful medium and can be used for good and bad. If anyone would have any comments on the book, I'd love to hear them. 'til the next time...
  19. I'm Back :D--> Much happier now! :D--> :P--> :D--> I found a list of songs I loved and still love from that year... Here they are ... Reelin' In the Years ~ Steely Dan Shambala ~ 3 Dog Night Smoke on the Water ~ Deep Purple Give me Love - Give me Peace ~ George Harrison Long Train Running ~ Doobie Brothers Dueling Banjos ~ Eric Weissberg & Steve Mandell Diamond Girl ~ Seals & Crofts (this ones for you Chatty) Hummingbird ~ Seals & Crofts Cover of The Rolling Stone ~ Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show Danny's Song ~ Anne Murray Dead Skunk ~ Loudon Wainwright III Live & Let Die ~ Paul McCartney & Wings Let's Get it On ~ Marvin Gaye Free Ride ~ Edgar Winter Group The Joker ~ Steve Miller Band Stuck in The Middle with You ~ Stealers Wheelers Why Me ~ Kris Kristofferson Thinking of You ~ Loggins & Messina You are the Sunshine of My Life ~ Stevie Wonder Ahhh, now I feel better! :D--> Thank you for letting me indulge myself! 'til the next time...
  20. 1973 OK, you guys know how much I love music and this thread. But, 1973 must have been a bad year for me. Everyone of those songs Ted mentioned I hated! If I heard 'Tie a yellow ribbon' one more time, I think I was personally going to tie Tony Orlando and his Dawn ladies around an oak tree myself. Please, can anyone name any other tunes that came out that year that I may have liked? I think I'm going to do a google search and see what I can find... I'm on my way right now. :P--> Ted, I hope you are not offended. :(--> Oops, I like "You're so Vain" ~ one of my long time favourites! 'til the next time... [This message was edited by A la prochaine on January 03, 2003 at 19:56.]
  21. I'm back and it's 1972 ... A la was a wee wittle girl of 12 and she remembers laying in her bed with her new transistor radio she received for Christmas listening to the Top 100 countdown. ...and the #1 song for 1972 was... Bye, Bye Miss American Pie!!! It was thrilling (for a 12 year old)! :D--> 'til the next time...
  22. Hey ~ Happy New Year Everyone ~ :D--> :D--> :D--> Don't have time to stick around, must catch up with all the household chores I have neglected during these holidays! But, just wanted to say, Chatty ~DIXIE CHICKS ~ I'm with 'ya on that one. Yup, have it and it's wonderful!!! I love the remake they did on the Fleetwood Mac song 'Landslide'. And of course 'Long Time Gone' is great too. I have all their albums ~ I'm a groupie. :P--> My mom loves them too, and she's 75! I gave her all their albums for a Christmas gift this year. She loves "Cowboy Take me Away". Man this thread is great! And, Ted is back too. Yeehah! :D--> Oh, found a great album after Christmas. I told Socks and Oak about it already. The Chieftains ~ The Nashville Sessions. It's the Chieftains playing tradional songs (bluegrass/celtic/country) with artists such as: Vince Gill, Alison Krauss, Earl Skruggs, Ricki Skaggs, Gillian Welch, Lyle Lovett, Bèla Fleck and the list goes on. Each artist does one song with the Chieftain's playing along. It's cool! See ya later tonight guys! 'til the next time...
  23. 6 Words Mike ... Too much time on your hands.
  24. Socks, What a great idea! Don't have time to sit and chat with you guys and girls, but just wanted to say: Happy New Year everyone! :D--> You have made 2002 the best year for me! Without all you wonderful GSers (and GS too of course) I'd still be 'crying in my beer' that's for sure! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart! :D--> 'til the next time...
