Go You Chicken Fat Go away! Go You Chicken Fat Go!

Does anybody remember the recording that Robert Preston (The Music Man) did of this song by "order" of President John F. Kennedy in 1961? Maybe I should say that JFK "commissioned"-yeah, better word- Robert Preston to do this song for America's Kids in order to get them to exercise and stay healthy. I remember exercizing to this dang song all through elementary school, and even though we made jokes about it, the exercize regimine wore us out, and, because I am a musician and always like Robert Preston, I dug it. But now, because there might be an "insult to flabby guys"-words used in the song, as well as an insult to chickens-PETA might not like it-the song and exercise regimen might be "politically incorrect". And so, it's funny how the brain works. The other morning, this song popped into my head-for whatever weird reason!-and I began to sing it at full volume in the kitchen as my wife and I were getting coffee. I mean, I remembered the words and the "marching band trombones" and everything! And she was looking at me like I was an idiot, as if I were singing "Beautiful Ohio" or worse "Good Morning Lord" at only 0600 in the marnin...

And so, I present to you a version of "Go You Chicken Fat Go" which only plays a couple of minutes of the song, but also gives a little history of JFK's involvement in it. After that, I will post the full version of the song which finishes out in case you want to hear the whole thing. So, here ya go, and if anyone else remembers this "Sixties Thing", please comment! Here's the short version:

And, here is the complete song (same version, just complete)

OMG!! OMG!! ... It was a Socialist Inspired Plot to indoctrinate our children to march off to our New World Order!!! ... Wasn't it?!

;) :biglaugh:

Altho' I never heard it myself (or at least, I don't remember it), I think it was an excellent program put into place by JFK. Along with others, like the Peace Corps and the Moon Landing.

(Actually, this topic reminds me of that big bruhaha several months ago last year about Obama wanting to write a letter or something to the school children, where the Tea Partyers and the like lost their collective s**t; thinking that Obama was trying to brainwash their kids into being good little Stalinists. :evilshades: )

Twinky - I was playing your song and my daughter came along and started singing words to it. (I'd never heard the words so I thought I'd share them with you in case you hadn't either.)">My link

and in case I still can't post a youtube the "right way" here is the URL:

My daughter said they sang "so kiss my butt" in her class where the kids in this video say "so I shake my butt". I like the video's version much better, myself.

I tried, but could not seem to edit my post and worked on it for about 6 minutes immediately after the initial attempt, but I don't seem able to do these things anymore around here so I'll add a new post and hopefully it'll come out closer to how I intended it in the first place.

I wanted to add that when President Obama addressed our school children that I asked our school principal why they chose not to show it to our kids but I never got a real answer. It was an "administrative decision" so I felt like he just passed the buck. It amazed me that we would vote a man into the presidency, but then not allow him to speak to our children across the nation.

And no, Clay Jay, I'd never heard the Chicken Fat song back in the day, as I was born in 1959 - but I do like the message. I imagine since JFK was so well-liked that the message was welcomed.

I never heard any words to the "Chicken Song" before, but those kids are funny.

It's a tune that really gets me moving ---- out of the room, and as far away as possible.

I never heard that tune before tonight. Just "shows to go ya" what a Catholic upbringing (schooling) will do, eh? cool.gif

Oh - - - and yes. I was DEFINITELY around during that time period also. (Did I use "also" correctly and in the right place?) biglaugh.gif

I think you're correct in the usage of that word. The only other way to write the sentence which would give the same sense woujld be...."I, also, was around during that time period....."

Now look at us.....we're trying to be sure we have the correct placement......of a word......have we been bewitched?
