By the end, the audience sympathized with Bob, who fell asleep in the middle and only woke up when the music stopped. We didn't hear a difference either. She really backed the wrong horse there. She was Richie's girlfriend, then went for his brother Bob, who had the motorcycle and flash. Then Richie, a stable guy, became a star, and she was with Bob, who was neither faithful nor sober, often.

Richie's mom convinced a bar owner to have Richie do a performance there. Richie's brother Bob thought rock was lost on the bar regulars. Richie apparently agreed upon reflection, since he changed his playlist, and switched to more Country/Western sounding songs.

It's November already and one thing I celebrate in November is a birthday. Not my birthday but my first book's. Undertow is nine years old this month. I think most of you have read it, so thank you very much. If you haven't, I invite you to do that! It reads like a mystery and has a happy ending. Today I'm sending a little insider info to you on the book's progress in the world. This is relevant because I created this blog 10 years ago specifically to let subscribers like you know I was working on what became Undertow. Over the years, I also wrote a lot of blog posts about cults and fundamentalism which many folks tell me are helpful. In November 2016, we launched the book and sold it from my website for one month before it was available online at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc. It was a VERY exciting time. Actually, it still is an exciting time for the book. Read on... Undertow fun facts Undertow copies sell every month. Every single month since its publication in November 2016, copies of the book have sold in paperback and/or eBook to readers around the world. That tells me people are interested in understanding why people join cults. They're also keen to know my own first-person account of being a committed leader and Biblical researcher with The Way International and why I stuck with the cult for so long: 17 years. And how I escaped. You may have noticed that high-control groups like The Way are more prominently reported on these days, so the topic is still very relevant. How many copies have sold? As of today, IngramSpark reports that 1,844 copies have been sold by online booksellers since Undertow went on sale back in 2016. Libraries and indie bookstores can order copies using the ISBN and Library of Congress numbers. Also, I've sold about 100+ paperback copies in person. Who reads Undertow? Over the years, many readers have contacted me to share their own experiences in The Way or other cults, thank me for my story, and oh yeah, some try to convince me to join their church or otherwise convert to something that can "help" me. No matter the messages, I'm glad the book makes people think. Undertow has reached people not only in the USA but in other countries including Australia, New Zealand, the U.K., The Netherlands, Italy, France, Germany, and Chile. When I receive monthly sales reports from IngramSpark, the company that prints the book on-demand and distributes it, I'm humbled. I'm struck by the consistent interest in this book. It's an honor to have my story add to the conversation about what attracts people to controlling and abusive organizations and how followers can eventually resist them, reject them, and heal from them. I thought you might like to see the kind of folks Undertow readers are. Some of my former college professors and the late Rita Bornstein, PhD, who was the president of Rollins College when I was a student there in the 1990s. She wrote a lovely blurb. Students at Rollins College who, for many years have been assigned Undertow in a religion class. I visit to discuss it with them. The professor, Dr. Todd French, provided an extensive blurb for Undertow. Mental health counselors, yoga teachers, and one of my own physicians. Librarians. In 2017, Undertow won an award from the Florida Authors and Publishers Association. Librarians were the judges that year. Oldiesman. Thank you for the Scriptures you posted, especially from the apostle Peter. You opened an important door of knowledge: The appearance of classic Hebrew terminology doesn’t equate to revelation earmarked for the Hebrews, but rather, Christ is revealing the mystery for the Church via Hebrew concepts: the fulfillment of the New Covenant God promised through the prophet Jeremiah 31:31, the Spirit being poured out (Joel 2:28-32a), and how the “just shall live by faith” (Rom. 1:17) in one Body: the Body of Christ. This is such a critically important subject. I’m thankful you brought this into the discussion. Christ handed Peter, Paul, and John relevant Hebrew terminology to reveal the mystery for the Church. Peter Peter uses classic Hebrew terminology to describe what God wrought through Christ via the mystery for the Church: the “Holy Priesthood” of the “Spiritual House”—and we are “Living Stones.” And Peter makes it abundantly clear who he is addressing in his letters: 2 Peter 1:1, 2 “Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have received a faith as precious as ours through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ. Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.” 1 Peter 1:3-5, 23 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an incorruptible and undefiled inheritance that does not fade away, kept in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time…. You have been born again, not from perishable seed, but imperishable, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.” Peter: Hebrew Terminology 1 Peter 2:4-6 Peter also revealed the mystery once hidden in Isaiah Coming to Him [Christ] as to a living stone who is rejected by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up into a spiritual house as a holy priesthood to offer up spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For also it is contained in the Scripture [Isaiah], ‘Look! I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious, and he who believes in Him shall never be put to shame.’” Regarding our Holy Priesthood… From the days of the Reformation, Martin Luther correctly wrote about “the priesthood of all believers,” which is often referred to as, “every man his own priest before God.” How? Be a “living sacrifice,” offering up “spiritual sacrifices” in the spiritual Temple of God. This is our Holy* Priesthood in Christ’s Church: “living sacrifices,” versus dead animal sacrifices offered by the Levitical priesthood under the Old Covenant. *Sanctified by the Holy Spirit Paul: Hebrew Terminology Romans 12:1 “I urge you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service of worship.” 1 Cor. 3:16 “Do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” Ephesians 2:19-22 (as you point out) Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the entire building, tightly framed together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God through the Spirit.” John: Hebrew Terminology Rev. 1:5-7 Christ in you, the hope of glory (Amplified, Classic Edition) “And from Jesus Christ the faithful and trustworthy Witness, the Firstborn of the dead [first to be brought back to life] and the Prince (Ruler) of the kings of the earth. To Him Who ever loves us and has once [for all] loosed and freed us from our sins by His own blood. And formed us into a kingdom (a royal race), priests to His God and Father—to Him be the glory and the power and the majesty and the dominion throughout the ages and forever and ever. Amen (so be it). Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him.” Oldiesman: This is where we agree 100% on the mystery for the Church: Collectively, Peter, Paul, and John revealed, “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Yet, there is another dimension to the mystery once hidden in the Old Testament. I’ll put it this way: If there isn’t a distinct mystery for the house of Jacob, then God is a liar. In essence, there are significant prophecies that apply to the house of Jacob that have yet to be fulfilled. The mystery for the house of Jacob is this: These prophecies would be fulfilled with Christ’s second coming when He returns like lightning to the Mount of Olives; these prophecies were never to be fulfilled with Christ’s first coming to Israel. Christ revealed the mystery for the house of Jacob to Peter, Paul, James, and John—which has no relevance to the mystery for the Church. Think about the prophecy Christ gave: “Truly I say to you, in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on His glorious throne, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.” (Matt. 19:28) I’ll address the fact that God isn’t finished with the 12 tribes of Israel in my next post. In essence, in the end, those Hebrews (embracing Moses/Torah) who “watched” are the wise virgins (Matt. 25) who enter the Millennial Kingdom, finally recognizing Jesus IS their Messiah, receiving atonement, at His second coming to Israel.
