Okay it's been more than a few days. So lets give it up. A couple of no-brainers I'm afraid were obvious I think, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975) (Jack Nicholson, Louise Fletcher), and of course "Silence of the Lambs" (1991) (Anthony Hopkins and Jodi Foster). George you got two others, "It Happened One Night" and the other Jack Nicholson movie, "As Good As it Gets" (1997). "Network" came the year after "One Flew" ,(Peter Finch and Faye Dunaway). Last on the list is "On Golden Pond" (1981) (Henry Fonda, Katherine Hepburn) winning both the acting Oscars. Okay now, there are only three movies in Cinematic history to win three Acting Oscars for the same movie. Guess one? No, not really. One of them was "Network" with one supporting actress. Warning: Getting personal here Although I have been feeling relief from not having to please a god anymore so he would answer prayers, I woke up this morning feeling an emptiness knowing that he was no longer my source of love. Not wanting to get up, I laid there and came to realize that the only option left was to love myself – not love me because God loved me, but to love me as in “it's all up to me now” and surprisingly, this was okay with me. My core belief of being unlovable since childhood was always the reoccurring great need in my life for seeking after God's acceptance and love. Now, accepting that I am the sole person responsible for loving who I am seems to have come with an unforeseen benefit. The emotional connection I had to my childhood pain is no longer there. Here is why I think this happened . For a while now (and for periods over the years), I felt guilty for not trusting God enough, not walking by the spirit or power of God enough, not speaking his word boldly enough, etc., and all of this meant, according to Paul's epistles, I was not being "enough" for God . It was the exact same guilt I had as a kid for not being "enough" to make my dad want to stop drinking. I realize now that my two reasons for guilt had melded together in that the spiritual guilt reinforced my childhood guilt. Pretty deep, eh . Coming to believe recently that the epistles, with all the hype of what we are called to be and to do, were not inspired by God but written by a man. This blew up my spiritual belief of not being enough. Being free of that guilt allowed me to see there was actually nothing left of the self blame I carried as a child. Thankfully, freedom is no longer needing to . (I'm also thankful for the little emoji guys to help me tell my story.)

I encountered on Zoom a man whom I'd witnessed to decades before - passionately interested in God and became a staunch Wayfer. He now has somewhat different beliefs. He is convinced that the Earth was created and populated as stated in Genesis 1, and that the exact day that God took rest can be calculated back. It was a Saturday. That is why we should honour the Sabbath - on Saturday, and that day has been calculated and can be ascertained Biblically. It has also been carefully preserved by Jews. Keeping the "sabbath" on any day at all that is not Saturday will, apparently, result in damnation, because it is a defiling and disobedience to Ex 20:8ff. Exodus 20 - “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. | ESV.org Safe to say, I don't agree with this PoV and have (for other reasons) discontinued conversation with him. We just don't know what time lag, and what events, happened between Gen 1:1 and Gen 1:2. Do we need to? Or do we simply need to disregard prophets and priests who claim to know?

I know of one man, highly intelligent, who thinks that the earth was made in 6 days, exactly as the Bible states. It's 4,000-something years old. Gen 1 :1 was it initially - then the Earth became void, then in 4000 years it was completely re-established. He was deadly serious in this belief. He urged me to go to a lecture by some visiting ?whatever? who knew about things like this. To expand my viewpoint (it wasn't long after TWI-escape), I did go along to the lecture. The person was so wacky that I think I walked out at half-time.

There are cave paintings that are radio-carbon dated to over 40,000 years ago. The fact that there are paintings at all - and of recognisable creatures and vegetation at that - points to much earlier human(like) creatures that had the skill to do the painting, knowledge of materials, etc etc. There are other cave paintings in other parts of the world that are also very, very old, in five figures. Any theory needs to take account of these - unless there's the allegation that these are all total fakes. Unlikely, methinks.

There is wisdom in the Bible, for sure. There are ideas worth contemplating, meditating on. There are beautiful turns of phrase, poetry. But It's not the only contemplative book of wisdom, ancient or modern, worth reading.

You're saying then that because the bible says he was sent by God means he was a manipulator just as God was. Cool - I can definitely see this. I've been listening to videos about how much Paul included teachings of Plato almost word for word in his writings which contradicts his saying that what he taught was not of men but by revelation from Jesus Christ. It's called "Paul or Plato? The Bible's Shady Origins" by Justin Best. I don't want to spend a lot of time researching whether the many examples shown on the video are accurate, but other videos have also focused on issues with his writings. A deconstruction of Paul's epistles is one way to see how the bible is not valid as a source of truth.

All I know is that he was sent by God. How do I know this? Paul himself says so of himself. He said it, that settles it, I believe it.

The first time I saw the acronym SNAFU was in a Wonder Woman comic; it was expanded as "Situation Normal, All FOULED Up." A few years later, some fraternity brothers were helping me with a computer program and suggested SNAFU as a label.
