  1. For devils? I'm not saying all offshoots, or everybody associated with the old ministry.. that would include me as well I suppose.

It just seems to me.. all of the ingredients are in place, in a few places.

Unbridled, unchecked "authority" to dismiss participants at any time for any reason..

A Doctrine which cannot be questioned for any reason, only discussed and studied as if it were from the Mouth of God..

Absolute ignorance and denial of the past history of the parent organization, including proclivities of its founder and leadership..

Deification of the founder of the old organization..

it all looks like the makings of a breeding ground for mini-loys, mini-psycho geeros and the like..

  2. Depending on the kindergarten,

ethics IS taught there, but it's ethics that a kindergartener can understand.

In grad school, they teach at a grad level.

its not really that much different though. maybe what is different at that point is Graduate Consequences.

  3. If God didn't want us to be spiritual, he wouldn't let us have weird visions either..

    Just saying..

Maybe I'm saying the same thing that you are saying..

Emotions can be very visually oriented.

  4. but, where do we go from here.. the Illusion of Control has melted..

we are really small beans compared to the cosmos..

what are we after reality melts. are we friends, comrades, enemies.. adversaries..

    what are we..

patiently waiting for an honest response..

  5. As to the original post in this thread. I would say we are not alone in mistreatment. It is not beyond my imagination that the "elders" in this supposed college would find it far easier to sweep this kind of conduct under some convenient rug instead of honestly dealing with the issues..

I had a *minister* in an offshoot who could not publicly acknowledge exactly what the "sin" was in one particular circumstance. The consequences of his negligence will never be fully known in this lifetime..

  6. the troubling part about this, at least to me, is how the Bots (generally speaking) would welcome a Government which would march "heretics" and "unbelievers" into death camps and such. Surely they would wash their feet in the blood of the wicked..

has this particular mindset changed in any way? If it has, I will retract my words.

  7. so then.. you were not exactly invited.. yourself.. either.

A long time ago. I was a guide to some, through a long, strange trip.. now, it would be nice if they could reciprocate.

It is asking, far, far, far, too much.

  8. I hope you will suffer through a round about way explanation of what was my bible knowledge previous to way days..

my dad died when I was in something like the 8th grade. One day I was looking through some old material in his desk in the basement.. among which was a Holy Bible (which was so old that the cover had rotted off).

I had no idea what I was reading.. the new testament was missing, except for a page that claimed it was a Masonic Lodge version.. of *something*.

The still readable pages were probably from Leviticus. I read about cutting up birds.. disembowling goats and cattle.. for a while, I wondered if my dad was involved in some kind of satanic worship or something..

    :biglaugh:

Sorry, no. It was just.. the Bible.

  9. As a teacher, or instructor it works as well. Sometimes the current book has methods or explanations that appear more like chaos than mathematics..

The worst is explaining undefined slope as "no slope". No, it is not No Slope. It is undefined slope.. undefined, because if you try to calculate the slope by formula, you encounter an undefined operation, dividing a real number by zero..

Students take the book to extend undefined slope to zero slope. Which is something entirely different..

    Every line has a slope.

Only one person came this Saturday for free wine, beer and chili. But.. this was the person who needed to come..

People don't have a clue of what I am trying to offer. Maybe they don't need what I have.. I dunno. One person did. And the concept reciprocates..

  10. I've done something similar.

They seem afraid to ask questions.. explain it all a different way. Still no questions? try another strategy.. if it is a fundamentally important enough concept I'll keep going at different angles until the students get it. I seriously don't see how someone can really learn something with questions being held for the last day of class. "most of your questions will be answered as we cover the material.."

I had to teach myself the same way sometimes. One book not working for me? Try a different one on the same subject..

Its still the same. I'm working through two different books on differential equations at the moment. One of them works with analytic methods, the other one works more with graphing, phase lines..Euler's method..

  11. I didn't mention the limiting process in my intermediate algebra class. Every once in a while I like to give the students a peek into they might see in the next level..

we were simplifying rational expressions where one encounters 0/0 in many situations.

  12. one example would be 2x/x. If x = 0 one has 2x0/0 which equals 0/0. But what if you got very, very close to zero.. say, .002/.001 = 2. then .00002/.00001 = 2, .000000002/.000000001=2.. could you then say 0/0 = 2?

  13. generally can be anything. The result is determined by the context in which is asked.

The algebra books call it an "indeterminate form". In other words, it requires special treatment to really figure out what it is, on a case by case basis.

  14. But as far as interacting with ex-way, can you honestly call them friends?

I'm also thinking of old "leadership". A general observation is that they do not have any real friends. Many have an audience. They have a microphone. Other than occasional nods and amens from the audience, there is no exchange, no dialogue.. maybe some in the audience like it that way, I dunno.

The only thing personal I can remember about the minister in the church that I grew up in, is that he was long winded. Same for F*nnegan, C*mmins.. Tow*send.. I remember more from what I read in their class syllabus. I could not cite much more than two or three personal facts about any of the above individuals.

CD's and youtube make the "relationship" even more impersonal. I suppose that works, if you have a product to sell.

Most likely they would not recognize me on the street.. or even pick me out in a line up as somebody they were even aquainted with.

Ralphie might. It would not surprise me if he knew me by name if we had a chance encounter.

As a class instructor, I almost demand students to engage in dialogue, and to ask questions during lecture time. Usually it is a small group. Twenty, thirty, thirty five. If they are too quiet, sometimes I ask them why.

It is far too easy for some to get up front, and simply show everyone that one knows how to do the work, solve the problem. .
