  1. I just ran across this very interesting discussion regarding the JW's current Blood Policy. Very interesting indeed! http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/16/128917/1.ashx
  2. Bard Child That's it! That's what my uncle was diagnosed with. And with the same reaction too. Good for you then, to get right in there and get involved.
  3. All right! Here's one: I'm looking in on the good life I might be doomed never to find. Without a trust or flaming fields am I too dumb to refine?
  4. Hello Roy. I must learn to use the quote feature, mustn't I?? Sorry, I was just replying to the original post. When I went back and read my reply, it felt kind of cold, as though I were declaring something you had just said to be "nonsense". Not at all. About your question now, no, I don't believe there's prelife either. You mean such as the LDS teach? That angels are sent to earth to live as humans?
  5. Hi Bard Child! Welcome! Easy going and passionate, sounds very balanced. :) Care to tell us a little about your role in Advocacy on Autism and Special Needs? I for one would be very interested in a discussion in this area. My uncle has just finally been diagnosed with a form of autism, after years of great struggle and much therapy.
  6. I like the idea of colon cleanses but the idea of it being practically a doctrine is too weird; and the idea of people being pressured to do it is totally out there. Can't imagine such a thing, especially not associated with religion.
  7. Starbird, it's just the thought of someone's insides being inside of another person; a little gross if you will! And it's along the lines of "catching" something from someone else - we recoil if someone coughs, spits, or sneezes around us, or even speaks over our food, right? So to take in their blood, you're basically "getting" everything they've got! And I can barely stand to touch or kiss anyone other than a little child as it is....

    Swingers

Dot I agree wholeheartedly - exactly. Someone we meet might very well fill some inner need we feel, but we don't necessarily have the moral right to act on that at the time.
  9. Awwww, no one found it funny?? Or is it just old news? I've never heard of this comedian before. I should try to find her comments on TWI, if she's done that yet! :P
  10. WordWolf you certainly are well-spoken to say the least...you so often present such a well informed and logical reply that I find it an actual pleasure to take your words in. So many excellent responses here, I really enjoy them. I used to be of the same mind as the JW's on the topic of blood transfusion but not to the extreme that I would withhold blood from a family member in a life-or-death situation. It was more along the lines of optional transfusions, given as a matter of course, but not absolutely necessary in the doctor's opinion. I would still rather not have one or authorize the giving of one if I were in the position of having to decide, but since my grandmother died because of blindly sticking to JW rhetoric, I would definitely not rule it out. Especially not on JW religious grounds, since that religion changes its doctrine like some people change telephone service providers...every few years.
  11. I haven't laughed this hard in some time
  12. I agree, I'm happy to see her doing just that.
  13. Amen. Such an impotent and irresponsible "creator" and father figure.

    Rape

Very close to it, potato. The woman's conditioning that prevented her from refusing disqualifies the treatment as outright rape IMO; but if she had refused, who's to know whether it would not quickly have become true rape? Definitely assault, even if "only" emotional assault.
  15. Hi starbird; you wrote: To me those are two contradictory statements.
  16. I don't believe there is anything at all after death. Seems like nonsense.
  17. I was never bullied at school. In elementary school I was sometimes the champion of the underdog and sometimes a little mean. In junior high and high school I was neither.
  18. Lisa I'm so very sorry you've lost your wonderful father.

    quirks

I cringe and get so perturbed if I hear someone squeaking/rattling snack food packaging over and over and over, as they eat bits of the snack. Especially if I feel it's being eaten in an inappropriate place.

    racism

Sudo Good point! I hadn't thought of that...I guess I wasn't aware that Southerners were sensitive about that stereotype (not being a Southerner).I do get so tired of political correctness but at the same time, when I see a past or current example of actual cruelty based on bigotry, it's very upsetting every time. Oenophile Now that's the stereotype I'm familiar with! Ha ha. That one and the dumbbell one. :P So they balance each other out!
  21. I hope you got your bird back excathedra?? Our bird got out once but he sat/stood in the road till a neighbor saw him and somehow got him back to us. I don't remember how she knew it was our bird. It was a parakeet. Very lucky, and grateful, to get him back like that.
