  1. Singing ladies i think started late 80's early 90's. and dave was part of the music group. i don't remember his name, he's probably not in anymore. I don't know definatively when either started but the tapes had copyright dates of 91-93 i believe. I had to watch them every sunday for like 4 years when I lived at HQ...
  2. also, I have only seen one book on ebay and its bid is $3. Maybe I don't know where to look.
  3. I actually have no out of pocket expenses. I did not pay for the tapes initally and my work paid for the s&h(our ceo is unethical anyway-the mailroom guy doesnt care-he offered). In my letter I stated I wish I'd never heard of the cult the way international...i know that Cult word will drive them nuts more. :D-->
  4. Hey All, I sent three tapes of way music that my sister found, back to the way. There were two Singing Ladies of the Way tapes and a Sing IT, Dave tape. I wrote a letter and stated that I did not want them and that I wish I had never heard of them. Maybe a bit rash, but I did not want to look at them anymore. In my storage unit, I also have all her old Way books that I may auction off on Ebay someday. What have you done with your old cd's and tapes? I think we should all send them back to them. the charge to return them is not nearly the amount that we paid for them. It might send a BIG message to them about how many people are not willing to be their drones anymore.

What happened to Jason Clapp? What is he up to? I took PFAL with him. former wayfer (what i was refered to when I went to New Knoxville School)
  6. Onion Eater I'm sorry to all the children that were, that is a very harsh thing to go through. Almost nothing ever fixes that mistrust in others. MeganP.
  7. No not at 13, I was mini corp at age 6-7, so then is when that occured. after a certain age its fairly pointless to spank with a wooden spoon. I am taking psychology now and although i'd heard this before, I've heard it again that spanking a child just teaches them to hit, they do not understand why they are being spanked. they do not put the connection of the bad action with the spanking, even with an explanation. so the way effectively was raising kids that someday would hit others.
  8. Coolwaters, I was minicorp f12 and I lived at RC then HQ from 85-94 and no one ever sexually abused me, ever. I was spanked with a wooden spoon but nothing else ever happened. and I dont know of any children that were abused sexually. Shortly after my mom found waydale she asked me about that and I told her the same I am saying here. Maybe my temperment they knew I'd say something and other kids wouldnt. That is basically why we were kicked off campus; cause I could think for myself, I could get myself ready to go each day without my mother's input. It's actually better if she's not there in the morning. But they could not understand a 13 yr old that was independant.
  9. wow, i was looking for it since i saw the origonal post. like we ever cared why rosalie joined and it is interesting how they did not mention the last president and why he's not there, nor was there much mention of Wierwille and all we saw was the WOW Auditorium and the lunchroom annex?? wierd. They could've shown the fountain or the OSC building. its sick i remember that stands for outreach services center.
  10. oh thank you. I cant get a cat or dog though. apartment rules etc. I want another beta, i still have food left over for betas. maybe when i get a job(im one of the tons of unemployed in Oregon) all the world is but a stage
  11. I understand your frustration. I had planned to grow up in the way, go wow, go into way corps get married and have babies. I wonder if that edict would still be in effect. I understand why he did it. Each child is more need on the parent's resources. The parents get their $$ from the way for their work in whatever dept. So if babies are being born then more $$ to parents which means less $$ in LCM's pockets. or as he'd say 'less money to spread the word with". its the same as the no pet rule too. I did not have any pets when I was growing up. I finally like a year ago got a beta fish. He died but he was my first pet and I got him at age 23.
  12. I totally disagree. I thought it was a great movie. my boyfriend was talking to americans that live over there and the whole disconnected feeling is how those americans feel. there is so muc going on but they feel just not in sync with all of it. I went on a sunday evening to see it and there was a line for it and the theater was almost packed. it made me want to see Japan even more. what i had seen had never made an impression bu that movie totally did it for me.
  13. oh i know what this is going to get me. I have been studying anthropology and i have learned a few things. Our closest genetic cousins are the bonobos. aka the pygmy chimpanzees. We share 98% of our genetic structure with them. The bonobos engage in sex acts with males and females no matter if they are male or female. They do it for pleasure and for building alliances with others, for support. Marriage according to my anthrpology book is: the non-ethnocentric definition is a relationship between one or more men(male or female) and one or more women (male or female)who are recognized by society as having a continuing claim to the right of sexual access to one another. Among North American Native Americans, there were men that donned women's clothing and did women's work and even married another man. most indian societies allowed individuals to engage in homosexual behavior. they did not look at it as deviant behavior. Homosexuality is not uncommon among humans. In some societies, it is apart of rituals for boys to become men. American football is filled with homosexual symbolism. A group of males who assert their masculinity by "penetrating" the "endzones" of rivals. I know LCM favorite sport was football. I say to each his own on the feelings about homosexual behavior. I am very happy with my boyfriend. His brother is flaming, some of my best friends are flamingly homosexual and they are great people. I personally refuse to allow society to dictate to me what is right and wrong especcially when there is proof to the contrary. Chrisitanity has taught us that it is wrong and deviant behavior but i feel that people will be attracted to whomever they are attracted to. If it does not hurt me then I dont care. Maybe I feel this way cause I live in Portland OR and we are very liberal here. The gay men have all the best style and music. American culture has steadily grown more and more okay with homosexuality. Shows like Will and Grace and Queer Eye for teh Straight Guy have made homosexuality chic and fun.
  14. I lived at HQ with a lady and she was preggers when my mom and I moved in(1990). It was ok for her to have a kid because from what she'd told me was that LCM made that edict then Donna got pregnant so of course this lady could have her 2nd one too.
  15. I am reading a book called "Who Cooked the Last Supper: A Women's history of the world" by Rosalind Miles. She wrote about how the trinity is just a patriarcal society changing a matriarchal society triangle of the "maid-mother-crone" to fit their needs. THe world went from goddess worship to father-one father-worship. People weren't easily fooled into this and so pieces of the old religion were changed so as to allow people easier acceptance of christianity.
  16. have any of you seen the commercials for the worship together music cd's??? they have musicians & groups, like sonic flood, that have been writing new christian music for the new generation. They have some great music like "i could sing of your love forever", "heart of worship", "Open the eyes of my heart", & "better is one day". I don't go to church, I don't read the bible, but these songs reach in to your soul and comfort even the most distressed person. check out the cd's at www.timelifemusic.com and click on worship/gospel bless u all
  17. The Harry Potter books are great. Yes they have 'magic' but as stated above it it slighly changed latin words. Kids are smarter than given credit for but it is still parents' responsibities to know what their children are reading, doing, talking to/hanging out with etc. The schools can only do so much and in Portland, Oregon not so much... and it is the parents' responsibilites to teach the child what it needs to know to survive and thrive in the real world when the child leaves home. My mom exerted little control over what I read, I wasn't allowed to read sweet valley university cause the characters didn't respect their parents. That was a situation to jump in as a parent to say STOP! That is not the way it is. Harry Potter got lots of kids from being in front of the tv to reading books again. Push that to reading the classics(new and old) and a child will be ready to enter high school and college. Teachers in hs and college, especcially english teachers, are always making comments and offhanded remarks about books. A kid that has the read the book will have a greater understanding of school and be more likely to succeed. Also, if a 8-9 year old is reading book 4 or 5 then they are reading books with upwards 900 pages!!! that's outstanding no matter the content. bless u all
  18. I read all of Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game Series that is out. It is sci-fi about a kid that saves the world from extintion in the future. The first book is a classic for many of my friends. I also have read the whole Incarnations of Immortality series by Piers Anthony. They are about the incarnations: Death(On a Pale Horse), Time(chronos), fate(the 3 aspects), War, Green Mother(Gaea), Satan and God. The premise is that humans hold these positions. I love horror and true crime. I love mythology and always have even when I was in. I love sydney sheldon. I have read probably all of his novels. They are so well written and engrossing. He wrote for I dream of gennie in the 60's! I am reading the Harry Potter books and they are engrossing too. I am working on reading classics that I haven't read like Grapes of wrath, fountainhead, waiting for godot, great gatsby, classics that i should have read by now but haven't. When I was in, i read fear street, baby sitters club and sweet valley high. my mom started reading sweet valley university and banned me from reading the series because she didn't want me to act the way the kids in it acted. yet i was allowed to read "catcher in the rye"(?!?) and watch tv. if anyone cares "Stranger in A Strange Land" by Robert Heinlein is one of the greatest books ever!!! It changes one's perceptions about life. [This message was edited by meganpenworthy on July 26, 2003 at 14:07.]

    binary

There are only 10 people in life: Those who understand binary, and those who don't... in binary, 10 = 2
  20. Hey Lindhopper My mom is sad to hear that your parents are still in. I read your post and immediatly called my mom to figure our who you are. I recognize your parents' names but I could not picture them nor do I remember you. Sorry, I was like 6&7 when I was in the family corps. All I remember was getting the chichen pox and graduation. I did not think that anyone knew/cared that we had left. It was time for us to do that. We were at the stage that we did not need that support to live our lives. I am not an actress nor have I haver been(unless stagehand for HS musical(Brigadoon) counts??) I like that quote cause I am a student of Psychology that believes that people show others what they think people want to see. I sorta go to school but have been working full time as a collector for a credit card company...yes i am one of THOSE people. Blessed Be! all the world is but a stage
  21. Hey Lindyhopper I was mini-corp family12!!! There is almost none left from our group left in. We left in 95 because of normal c**p. I don't know if my mom and i was m&a not that we cared. My mom is Vivian and worked in the kitchen and we stayed at Rome city till 90 when we moved to HQ. I still can't believe all the stuff I saw and heard when I was there. LCM aparently was on such a rampage one day at lunch that lunch(which starts at noon) went on till 3pm!!! I wasn't there but heard about later. Have you heard about Jason C___P?? You said his parents were out but I can't find anything about him. Congrats on the Baby. Babies are fun especially when you can hand them back to the parents!! Blessed Be! all the world is but a stage
  22. I am/was involved in a medieval reinactment society called the SCA, Society for Creative Anachronism. This is my persona that I take on at events or gatherings. I am 1500's upper class englishwoman. I got the name though from a romance novel and the pronunciation for megan(mee-gan) from the actress that played Anne in Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea, the movies and tv series. I am a cancer and therefore guided by the moon. So a solar eclipse is befitting, plus it just looks cool. I did a project about the moon as a symbol for a mythology class that I took a year or so ago. all the world is but a stage
  23. A few years ago I was invoved in a bible study. I went to church on sundays, bible study on tuesdays and potluck dinner on thursdays. Several of my friends in that group went to a conference called One Day. You can learn more about this one day a year where thousands of college kids get together in a town, that year 2000 in Tennessee, to sing and praise God. They put out a cd of the music called Passion that is available in most Christian retail stores. Also, Sonic Flood is a great group that sings some great songs. The way had some okay songs but I was not that impressed. Christian music has evolved to where it gets even the most quiet person to sing along too becuase the music is great and the love is all around. all the world is but a stage
  24. They aren't who you are thinking of..I can assure you. Their son Jason was born in 88 at headquarters and folloed three years later in early 91 by Joshua. They moved to Il in 92 where they then had Jeremiah(??). Beth's believer parents lived in NC and Jim's believer parents lived in MI. all the world is but a stage
