  1. religion/gods doesn't pay the bills religion/gods doesn't put food on the table religion/gods doesn't belong in gov't religion/gods doesn't belong in science religion/gods doesn't do anything really, unless my mind wants it to. to try and cram religion/gods into life is an over complication. You can make it work with a lot of labor, but why?
  2. I see it more as a choice between simplicity and various levels of confusion.
  3. Two great QBs and two very good teams. I love it when these two teams meet. The Pats had two other highly anticipated games this year and neither really lived up to the hype (San Diego/Dallas). Pats lost both meetings with Indy last year, but the NE is better this year than last: Moss, Staleworth, welker etc. I expect a nail-biter in a week and half. anyone else looking forward to this? Will it be a QB showdown?
  4. I just wish he'd run a little harder coming out of the box. Celebrate midway between 1st and 2nd. Even Ortiz has "scoffed" at him when he's standing on first when he shoulda been on second or third. He just scares me sometimes.
  5. I know the guys like Einstein are often misunderstood and presented as "believers".
  6. Garth, Many atheists' posts on different boards I've been on point out the many imperfections of "creation". Basically, either god is dumb or doesn't exist. The universe and all life exists because of some statistical probability. It's just math. On occasion a creationist shows up, who is eventually dubbed crazy by atheists and theists alike. The theistic evolutionists are present, but only to "prove" evolution. They say they can reconcile the bible with evolution but so far, just talk. They're sideline sitters doing mental gymnastics (remeniscient(sp?) of twi). It's the atheists doing all the real work. The either extremists mentallity or general apathy of the Christians said a lot to me: Science and religion just don't mix. Science favors the atheist. Go look website of the school Behe works at, they almost regret to admit he works there, they apologize for his presence. (and he believes in the old earth, and doesn't particularly care if evolution is true or not). Religion and anything that smells of it is on a short leash. I still don't see evolution as a fact. I won't tell anyone, it's academic suicide. Perhaps the info I need will come to change my "evil creationist mindset". Creationists are outgunned just like twi was. Why should I trust them? Leaving twi worked for me. So naturally, squashing any idea that there's a supernatural sounds like the next step for me. I'm slowly trying to see things from an atheistic view. Sorry if that confuses you.
  7. You want me to stay fixed on a position despite all argument? I also once believe that lcm was the MOGFART. And that if I listened real carefully god would talk to me.
  8. Why not? (He was an accident and a nice one). No, I refuse to have more kids until I can find some hope that they can have more than what this life has to offer. Hey, it's not a fun transition.
  9. Well, a if a religious person wrote a book they'd get the same accusation. Dawkins is an influencial man. People don't have to buy the book to get the message: Want to be a good scientist? Give up god(s). That's what the best of them do. Sure, there's a few who debatebly ascribe some sort of loyalty to a god, but why make it hard?
  10. The one thing I took away from twi is that delusions are all that we have. Why does Dawkins want to take that away from people? Money. Yeah.
  11. you're saying there was a time when earth wasn't hell? I don't care what anyone thinks. Consciousness stinks.
  12. http://www.positiveatheism.org/mail/eml9012.htm Makes me wish I never had a son. It's cruel to bring someone into this craphole of a world.
  13. Sox are in the series and the Pats seem to be unstopable! My brother and I went to the Bengals game when the Pats came to Cinci. I yelled so much it took my voice almost a week to heal. #23 threw my bro and I his glove. (I think he was the one who run the kickoff for a touchdown vs Miami) vickles, pick a team, join the fun.
  14. So, how does one properly study atheism? What's the missing information? And how is anyone's take on atheism flawed?
  15. no, but lobstah is bettah :)
  16. I saw video on eugenics (Homo Sapiens 1900) in which I learned that Sweden was big into genetically purifying its people (in the past). I don't know that Swedes are immoral or not. Apparently they're good at rehabilitating criminals back into society. I got nothing against Swedes. (I married a part-Swede). I know there are believers in Europe, but the trend in Europe seems to be (roughly) away from religion toward atheism. I thought if Europe is headed toward primarily non-religion, the U.S. will be next.
  17. I don't know that you haven't said anything that doesn't confirm my "preconceived notions". Yes, we're done. Hey sky, did you read the book? Does Dawkins discuss his view on love?
  18. I was very annoyed at that post-game "show". commercials gallore. brief peeks at the celebration. Saying they'd show Papelbon dance the jig and then not. Saw Ortiz doing something out there by himself. I wanted to see wild celebration by the Sox. Not the agony of defeat for the Indians. Someday, I'll move back that way, I'll be at the games, I'll have the NESN.
  19. The real question is: Did you dance the Irish Jig?
  20. Just wanting to clarify, many intellectuals during the enlightment believe that religion would be gone by now? I hear Sweden is mostly atheistic/agnostic/generally non-believers. Europe apparently is far more secular than the U.S. Is the move toward atheism a general trend in develeped countries?
  21. Do you know how long these predictions have being made? (are they modern predictions or ancient ones?) It seems to me some people spend as much time and effort trying to explain religion away as false as others do trying to explain it as a reality. It's like trying to decide which direction on the hamster wheel to run.
