  1. Somebody sounds bitter!!!Like Don Henley sings about " Get over It!" Jerry Mac p/s What did you do with your clergy seal?Nevermind, i just read page one, I think you're full of #@^%
    " Get over It!"

I think that's what he was doing.

    I think you're full of #@^%

    Huh?

  2. It's just 7pm here and we're all set with Reese's Peanut Butter cups, Butterfingers and other assorted candies. So far I've only had about 7 customers but the night is young. My nine year old is out with Dad and two of her friends begging candy from the neighbors. I just had to leave and give some candy to two little goulish looking creatures. One of them had red lights for his eyes. But they were very polite and said "thank-you" and "Happy Halloween".

  3. Glad you guys who have responded are okay! Still praying for everyone out there.

wrdsandwrks, I have a good friend who lives in Valencia. Isn't that right next to Stevenson Ranch? I tried to call her but got voice mail and no response yet. Were a lot of people in Valencia evacuated?

I think Valencia was fairly unscathed although the Agua Dulce fire may have come into parts of Valencia. I didn't hear about any houses lost in Valencia so she's probably fine.

  4. Any updates from WordandWorks?

I hope our beloved Greasespots and their families are faring well, too!

We're all good here. Here's an update from the Santa-clarita.com website where I live. (I live in Stevenson Ranch)

    October 24, 2007 - UPDATE - 10am:

Buckweed Fire: (Santa Clarita, Agua Dulce areas) This fire is now 94% contained. There are no deaths as a result of this or any of the fires in Los Angeles County. A total of 5,500 homes were threatened and over 38,000 acres have burned.

Magic Fire: (Magic Mountain and Stevenson Ranch areas) This is 100% contained, no structures were lost or threatened. A total of more than 2,800 acres burned.

So even though it was looking kind of scary here for a while, it appears that the fires in our area are contained and hopefully the winds are dying down.

We're still praying for San Diego and the San Bernardino mountain area and Orange County too...

Thanks for your prayers and concern.

  5. It got pretty intense here in my neighborhood in Stevenson Ranch for a while today. We were advised to "shelter in place". I found out it means to stay inside. There are mandatory evacuations in place a few blocks away.

    Here are some pictures:

  6. My brother and his wife evacuated tonight... they're near Lake Arrowhead, CA. He says it's pretty certain they'll lose the house.

Praying for a miracle there Dan.

I live in Stevenson Ranch and it's been pretty intense with the smoke and flames coming close, but I think the firefigters are on top of it. We were advised to "shelter in place", mandatory evacuations a few blocks away.

The winds seem to have died down some and it's a lot cooler since nightfall.

I'm praying for all of Southern California tonight.

  7. "But they that wait upon the Lord

    shall renew their strength;

    they shall mount up with wings like eagles;

    they shall run, and not be weary;

and they shall walk, and not faint "(Isaiah 40:31)

    Happy Birthday LikeanEagle!

  8. I've decided to suspend indefinitely my interest in this thread, thereby proving how perfectly Belle has my posting patterns down. Thanks again, y'all, for your contributions and comments.

Thanks to Belle, I've found Google and the Gilgamesh story which predates the Bible, and all kinds of trash about Wright. I now know how Wrong he is. And Cynic's information has given me a new view, possibly, into Christianity, and I think maybe I will become Reformed, if I don't go wiccan.

Initially, I was intrigued by Wright's premise that in his letter to the Corinthian church, Paul took the Jewish Shema (thou shalt put no other gods before me) and put Christ right in the center. I began to wonder if I was going to understand the NT in a whole new light, same as the old light. His comments regarding the Church and polytheism then and now seemed worth considering. But now I know it's BS, and, thanks to Belle, I also know the other side of the Moynihans.

    You nailed it, Belle!

    :eusa_clap:

    Huh?

  9. I wanted to share with you my fun. The accomplishment of a life long dream :)

Whew, it was worth the wait to receive this honor at the hands and recognition of our president and in front of so many high ranking black belts.

I swing from worrying about if this is some sort of fantastic dream that I am going to wake up from, to giddiness over the reality of achieving a long cherished goal.

All I can say is that is never to late to start on a dream. Thanks for letting me share my fun :)

    Cathy

Rascal, you are one "bad" mama! Remind me never to make you mad. (jk)

    Congratulations! What a great accomplishment!

  10. I am so happy to report that both Liz and her husband are alive and will and living in Medina, OH. He retired from his job as a judge advocate in juvenile court and they moved to Ohio and bought a house across the street from her friend Irma and her husband. They get together for barbecues all the time and attend the same church.

I have her phone number and was told she's out of town and will be back on Friday. I will call her then.

I can't tell you how relieved I am to hear about this. We managed to track down Irma and her husband through the internet white pages and they told us that Liz and her hubby are doing just fine.

So you guys that were praying for her can keep on praying. I'm thrilled to be able to talk to her. I really have been trying to find her for years.

All this reminded me of the old Mark Twain quote:

"The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated."
, which he said after a reporter incorrectly reported that he had died.

Sorry for prematurely reporting something that hadn't been verified.

    Did I say I'm relieved.

  11. When I was quite new "in The Word", I had a childhood friend who was diagnosed as schizophrenic.

He was doing fairly well(but not great) with the clinical treatments he was receiving which included very heavy duty pharmaceuticals.

One of the "lovely" young ladies in our branch(who went on to much bigger and "better" things with TWI) was kind enough to tell him his problems probably stemmed from the fact that he was "born of the wrong seed".

Not long after that, I found myself being asked by his father to be a pall bearer at his funeral.

He left me a note saying that he had learned something about himself that he could not bear to live with.

It was me who insisted he come with me to twig because I thought it could help him.

It was me who had to find his lifeless body that cool Autumn night.

I'm sure we all have similar things lurking in our memories.

    Sorry Waysider.

I think this is one of the benefits of GS Cafe. I think those stories should be told so those memories "lurking" in the shadows can be healed. It's not real pleasant to bring them up, but it is therapeutic.

  12. I received this information from someone here about Liz. It is very upsetting. I was going to wait until I heard for certain that she died, but I don't know how long that will take.

If anyone knows anything else, please let me know...

I read about your friend, Liz, who I got to know through a friend of mine. Sadly, I believe she eventually died of the return of the brain tumor, and ironically, so did her husband. I will check... and get back to you ... but I am almost positive this is what happened.
  13. QUOTE(wrdsandwrks @ Oct 10 2007, 12:55 AM)

When I took it in 1974 it was $35.00.

    $65.00 in 1972.

That was a whole lot of money, back then.

Maybe they were running a special when I took it. Then again, it was 33 years ago, so I could be wrong, but some things just stick in your brain. I remember I cashed in a $25.00 savings bond my parents had given me and had to come up with $10.00 more.

  14. ...uhm...well actually - I did the speaking in TWIngues and you provided the interpretation...We'd better re-read the Receiving the Wholly TWIt Today book - I think we're doing something wrong.

I shudder to think what would have happened if I, the interpreter, had failed to show up for church this morning.

  15. Translations according to usage:

I'm believing for the money to take the Advanced Class.

"I'm dead broke but I'm going to scrounge and scrimp and put all my money into paying for this expensive class. If someone is really spiritual then maybe they'll just give me the money to pay for it."

    Just renew your mind.

"Turn off your brain and don't think about it, be a good little robot and eventually if you get really good at it your brain and conscience will cease to function as it should and you will be so perfectly "renewed" that you will think that adultery is a good thing and taking advantage of others will come naturally."

I quit my job because I can't think the Word there.

"I'm a lazy bum but I sure do like hanging out at the Twig fellowship and giving "holy kisses" to all the pretty girls. Of course it totally grosses them out but they just need to "renew their minds" to it."

I'm having a real opportunity going to their Twig and would like to go to yours instead.

"Those guys are mean, nasty and I hate going to their house, can I come to yours instead?"

"You'll have to go through the proper Way Tree channels for permission for that. Ask your Twig leader."

I'm thinking the Word of you.

    "I hate your guts."

I really got delivered by what you shared at Twig.

"Is my nose turning brown yet?"

I think we should put this in a Lock Box.

"This could be dangerous and perhaps lead to legal repercussions if anyone ever found this out, so we have to make up a doctrine that makes people think that if they ever tell anyone about it they'll have serious spiritual consequences."

What does the Word say about murmuring?

"Shut up and do what I told you to do!"

Why didn't you go with first thought?

"It's your own fault whenever anything bad happens to you."

Believe God to show you the hole in your hedge of believing.

"You probably haven't given enough money."

  16. what's third aide?

If I remember correctly it was the way equivalent of first-aid, except you were supposed to go to prayer first, then to being prayed for, then to medical attention. Of course the "third-aid" at HQ or other TWI locations were staffed by whoever happened to have a bit of medical training.

But now I see, or others, am I correct?

  17. Too bad when I had one the worst sinus infection of my life that lasted 3 weeks, where all I could get was herb tea and a face massage from third aide , they couldn't scrounge up anything else for me either.

    third aide

    Now there's a "way speak" term I haven't heard in a while.
