  1. i guess that counts me out

Excie, I'd like to say, don't be so quick to count yourself out. I see plenty of "laboring"in the Lord" in what you do here. You're alway blessing people with your insight and wit and standing up for people who may be down. Thanks for all you do here.

  2. On this Labor Day......I want to thank each and everyone of you who labored [past tense] and labor [now] IN love and offer a helping hand by coming to GS.

When I set aside twi's corporate machinery FOCUSING SOLELY on the heart and labor of so many during my past and post-twi days.......reflection on the giving, the laughs, the craziness, and the tender times gives me pause for a heart of thankfulness.

So, on this "day of rest"........thank you one and all for your blood, sweat, and tears to join THE FORCE OF GOOD to uplift mankind. How many hearts did you open to the Scriptures? How many eyes that were blind can now see the Lord Jesus and his accomplishments? How many burdens did you carry through the years with a deep passion to help others? The answer to these questions......I don't know, but God Almighty does.

Thank you WOWs......for going forth into the unknown, leaving behind family and friends and college and jobs. May the Lord God always look on your heart.

Thank you Adv. Class grads......for wanting to learn more to serve better. Our God is an awesome God who reigns in heaven above to strengthen your every step.

Thank you Corps......for your resolve to face adversity and hardship, expecting this training to facilitate your walk in Christ. May God continue to open doors before you and honor your commitment and calling to serve others.

It is my intent that this thread stay "on the HIGH ROAD" of Labor Day Eternal......and not detour towards the dirt roads of destruction. Clearly, my abundant postings have stated my views regarding "the side-roads, back-alleys and spin-outs" that kept many of us from that high road eternal.

Today is set aside to rest from that labor.....and I intend to enjoy it.

And, when "resting"........my heart swells with thanksgiving for SO MANY HERE who post thought-provoking logic, sound doctrine, silly jokes, helpful links, and comforting words. Hopefully, Paw is resting and enjoying his day as well.

Today, I choose NOT to squabble over any issue at GS.

Today, I just want to say THANK YOU.

    :)

Wow, Skyrider. Thank you so much for posting such beautiful, annointed words! I can't even find the words to express how much they touch my heart. The word that comes to mind is a very hearty and heartfelt

    AMEN!

  3. Here is a link for you

    Adoni

    And another

This verse was referred to the Messiah by the Pharisees and by Jesus. It tells us that the relationship between God and Jesus is that of Deity and non-Deity. The Messiah is called adoni (my lord) and in every one of its 195 occurrences adoni (my lord) means a superior who is not God. Adonai on the other hand refers exclusively to the One God in all of its 449 occurrences. Adonai is the title of Deity and adoni never designates Deity.

    Hi WhiteDove,

I read the articles at both of those links.

While it is true that adonai Strongs #136 is used only to refer to God, (Wigram's Englishman's Hebrew and Chaldee Concordance of the Old Testament pg 22) adon, Strongs #113 (Wigram pg 15) is used to refer to both human lords and the Lord God.

The Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament (Vol. 1pg 12 under adon) Lord, master, owner:

In the simple unsuffixed form or when pointed adoni or adona(y), for the first common singular suffix or with other pronominal suffixes, adon usually refers to men... However, ther are numerous passages, particularly in Psalms, where these forms, which are the only ones to apply to men, refer to God. Exodus 34:23 combine "the Lord, YHWH, the God of Israel"...

I think Anthony Buzzard's research is flawed. (But I'm sure he's a nice guy, Another Dan says so and I believe him.)

  4. One would have to look at the usage of lord , note in the passage below that you offered the two lords. One is all caps one is not ,one is Jehovah, one is adoni ,properly translated as lord but not used of GOD in the Bible.

    Psalm 110:1-6 NKJV

1 The LORD said to my Lord,

    "Sit at My right hand,

Till I make Your enemies Your footstool."

    WhiteDove, You said,

One would have to look at the usage of lord , note in the passage below that you offered the two lords. One is all caps one is not ,one is Jehovah, one is adoni ,properly translated as lord but not used of GOD in the Bible

This isn't so, the Hebrew word adon, translated here as Lord (It's actually adon, Lord, + the pronominal suffix i, my.) is used many times of God:

    see:

    Ps. 8:1,9; Ps. 97:5; Ps 114:7; Ps 135:5; Ps 136:3; Ps 147:5

    Is. 1:24;3:1;10:16;10:33;

    Dn 12:8

    Hos 12:14

    Mic. 4:13

    Zech. 4:14;6:5

    Mal. 3:1

  5. Has anyone experienced this? This has always sounded interesting and fun! Or maybe I just long for a community with a yearly festival!!!!

This one sounds like a lot more fun to me. It mentions the Burning Man festival further down in the article. I know this guy, Lou Engle, he is a genuine Christian with a mission to reach a generation:

    THE NAZIRITE UPRISING

    by Lou Engle

    www.TheCall.com

"America is receiving Her apostles, prophets, and evangelists, but She has not yet seen Her Nazirites!"

This audible voice from the Lord reverberated through my whole being, jarring me out of a deep sleep into a wakened attentiveness to the Holy Spirit. I knew that the Lord had spoken to me.

In fact, God's answer had come quickly to my heart's searching the night before when my 13-year old son had asked permission with determined insistence to take the Nazirite vow of Numbers 6:1-21. In his persistence, he said to me, "Dad, I don't want to cut my hair until TheCall DC" which was 8 months away at the time. He continued, "I don't want to eat meats and sweets until TheCall and I want to go on a juice fast the 40 days before TheCall. And Dad, I don't want to play baseball this year. I want to run with you and pray for revival in America."

The voice of the Lord could not have been any clearer to me through that audible voice encounter. I could hear the Lord saying to me through that encounter: "Lou, do not hinder your son from being extreme for Me. Let the young man go for it. Let him go as far as he can go with his consecration before Me. I am the One raising up the Nazirites." With fear and trembling, I knew what He was saying and I knew the holy admonition of Amos 2:11-12 where God thundered, "I raised up some of your sons as prophets, and some of your young men as Nazirites... But you gave the Nazirites wine to drink, and commanded the prophets saying, ‘Do not prophesy!'"

I believe that God is saying in this passage that He was and is the One who stirs up this counter-cultural youth movement of prophets and fasting and praying Nazirites who are the dreamers that shift the destiny of nations. I knew from the encounter that night that God is raising up a new breed in America that will not be known so much for its gifts and position, but for its passion. They would be known more for their fasting and hunger for God than their feasting and games.

God is Raising Up His Nazirites

As I read the Scriptures, I believe the Lord makes very clear the reasons why He raises up Nazirites throughout history - to save a nation from Her enemies (Samson), to restore a nation to its moral foundations and establish a worship and prayer movement (Samuel), and to raise up a "voice" burning like a torch that can turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the rebellious back to the wisdom of the righteous (John the Baptist) and thus, prepare a nation to receive the visitation of Jesus Christ.

Because of this scriptural vision and hope of the Nazirites, a week after the 1997 Promise Keepers' Stand in the Gap gathering in Washington, DC, I prophesied at a youth/young adult conference in the deserts of the Southwest that God was raising up a young Nazirite, John the Baptist movement that would go to the Mall in Washington, DC to fast and pray for a spiritual awakening in America. I declared that when they would go to fast and pray, it would be a sign that America is turning to God.

On September 2, 2000, over 400,000 people gathered to the Mall in Washington, DC for the first TheCall DC gathering. I believe that solemn assembly was a fulfillment of the prophecy I received in 1997 in the deserts of the Southwest and it was a sign from heaven that this nation was turning to God.

And after 8 months of his Nazirite separation and preparation before the Lord, when my 13-year old son prayed at TheCall DC for the Nazirites to arise in this nation, a roar shook that field in agreement and a generation was marked. Today, wherever I travel across America, I run into young people who were there that day in 2000 and say that the Nazirite call changed their lives forever. I still believe that despite a darkening culture around us, this nation can turn back to God because America is beginning to receive Her Nazirites in this hour of our nation's history.

The Nazirite Summons to TheCall Las Vegas

Thus, seven years after TheCall DC, we are summoning all those who gathered then to come to Las Vegas on October 20, 2007 for TheCall Las Vegas to renew their consecration before the Lord to turn a nation to God.

For decades, hundreds of thousands of people have been going out to the deserts of Las Vegas, a citadel of ungodliness now known as "Sin City" that has become a worldwide attraction for gambling, sexual immorality, materialism and wickedness.

Elsewhere in Nevada, a gathering called the "Burning Man" is held in the middle of the desert year after year. For a week, tens of thousands act out their fantasies of a world without rule and restraint in an orgy of hedonism and fire.

But two thousand years ago, there was another Burning Man who roamed the deserts of Judea. His name was John the Baptist. History tells us that hundreds of thousands of Jews went out into the wilderness to see this Nazirite Burning Man - the one Jesus called "a bright and blazing torch". He would turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the hearts of the rebellious to the wisdom of the righteous and prepared a whole nation for the coming of Jesus.

God is raising up a Burning Man generation and calling out for thousands of young people to consecrate themselves to the Lord as Nazirites and become the hinge of history for Las Vegas and this nation, turning them back to God.

Over 70,000 people gathered in Nashville on 07.07.07, now we are calling forth 20,000 Nazirites to come to TheCall Las Vegas on October 20, 2007 at the Thomas and Mack Center to fast and pray this city. "Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, gather to us there. Our God will fight for us" (Nehemiah 4:20).

  6. of interest:
Mesmer could actually be considered the father of slain in the Spirit except that he was plainly an occultist. Mesmer claimed to have discovered what he dubbed as animal magnetism. Having an interest in ESP and doing a doctoral study on astrology, He took a scientific approach on reaching spiritual contacts and trances through animal magnetism (universal fluid). “ What he discovered was an activation of strange powers in man that would help him gain insights into cosmic truths hidden from most of humanity by a veil of ignorance.”

He had written in his doctoral dissertation and repeated in a series of writings, the hoary fallacies could be shown to have essential truth within in them when interpreted scientifically-Astrology, alchemy, Oneiromancy (divination by dreams), divination. He then explained it through animal magnetism. Others who were also influenced by Mesmer were Samuel Hanneman founder of Homeopathy (New age medicine). Phineas B.Quimby who was also a mesmerist, he first attributed the power to Spirits for the use of this unknown energy but later said it was the mind. He healed Mary baker Eddy through this power who then became the founder of Christian Science a mind science Cult.

Clearly there are occult powers and spirits that counterfeit what the true God does.
he first attributed the power to Spirits for the use of this unknown energy but later said it was the mind.

I was just reading Colossians and starting looking in depth at Colossians 2:18,19

This quote reminds me of "intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind and not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increases with the increase of God."

People like Mesmer and other occultists "intrude" into the unseen world (the spirit realm) without "the Head", Jesus Christ and lead others astray, because they are "vainly puffed up" by their minds focused on the flesh instead of holding on to the Head and allowing Him to lead the way into revealing what is needed to supply the body with increase. Interesting how "psychic" power comes from the word "psuche", Greek for soul. James 3:15 This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual (pshuchike, soulish) and devilish.

IMO anything that professes spiritual power, or power of the mind, without acknowledging the source of the power to be Jesus Christ is "earthly, sensual (soulish) and devilish.

I believe that this is what the gift of discerning of spirits is for. You can just tell, when something is from the wrong spirit, something goes off inside.

  7. OMG!!!

Okay, Quietly thinking and asking God…. (You suggested Larry, and I did it again)

Perhaps, the reason the heavens do not SPRING into action is they have to be asked…

Otherwise it is interference and THAT violates free will.

I did not ask Jesus to help me in the woods, I think he warned us via Steven, but I did not say, “Jesus help me!”

Just like our Government. During the Katrina nightmare the mayor did not follow protocol and ASK for the government to get involved, so they didn’t, Ray Nagin did not ASK, and those were the laws in place. Then, he blamed everyone else but HE did not do the necessary steps.

Neither did I AND I blamed God for his inaction!

I did not ASK, or speak it from the spiritual realm to this one. If they were there and inactive, it is because I did not ask. They NEVER leave or forsake, but they do NOT violate free will.

I did not ask!!! There seems to be asking, believing, and speaking going on all over the Bible which apparently is the currency to bring things from the supernatural world INTO the natural.

Look how this goes, just a few places:

    Mathew 7

7 ASK, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ASK bread, will he give him a stone?

10 Or if he ASK a fish, will he give him a serpent?

11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ASK him?

    Psalm 91

14Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

15He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

    Psalm 4:1 KJV Chapter

Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.

    Psalm 17:6 KJV Chapter

I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.

    Psalm 31:17 KJV Chapter

Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.

    Psalm 50:15 KJV Chapter

And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

    Psalm 55:16 KJV Chapter

As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me.

    Psalm 91:15 KJV Chapter

He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

    Psalm 118:5 KJV Chapter

I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place.

    WOW

So, he is there at the crime site.

He needs to be invited into action.

Awesome insight Dot! Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us.

What a great reminder to ASK.

  8. Words and Works

What do you think? About the Centurion asking for the miracle for his servant?

Does not say the servant was a believer. Seemed like a nice giving guy, maybe.

But the Centurion ASKED for someone who was not him, and that someone was healed.

I have been thinking. Nobody wants to be sick, except for some attention seeking weirdos. So, the desire to be well, is there.

Their will is to be well.... Now toss in prayer of a righteous man, how much can it avail?

What happens when we wear out, can someone really stand in the gap with their faith in Jesus for your healing?

Dot, great point, The servant was obviously someone the Centurion cared about and he went to Jesus to ask for healing on his behalf. Sure seems like we can and should do the same for those we care about.

Intercession is standing in the gap, we all have gaps and we all need others to pray for us. Paul always asked people to pray for him, he realized he needed it.

What about the guy in India, in Piffle, do you think it happened -- I believe you can heal me but I do not believe in your Jesus....

Don't know for sure but it sounds like something that an Indian person would say. Chuck's been to India twice and seen miracles both times. When people are desperate they have nowhere else to turn but to God. That's how Jesus evangelized, by healing people. They wouldn't have believed his words if he didn't have the goods to prove it. How do we know Jesus was raised from the dead, because He still heals people today.

What if the sick person's sickness is ruining the faithful's life, can the faithful claim deliverance for the sick person?

(Such as schizophrenia-- I ask this as a believing mother had an adult son with this, each day she and her prayer partner prayed for his deliverance. They (mother and prayer partner) took him off the meds and continued in prayer. The son had been raped many times in childhood and had a splintering. Anyway, the son killed the mother by stabbing her. The autopsy said the wounds were not deep enough (kid had hand problems) to kill her, so it was as if she gave up during the crime. BUT I think prayer can work on another person, as in these biblical records, however, in this woman's case she should not have taken him off the meds. )

Maybe she died from a broken heart. Yeah, she shouldn't have taken him off the meds.

Wisdom is a good thing to seek after when dealing with mental illness, but God is still in the healing business.

Are there hard fast rules? The man whose son threw hiself in the fires -- well, the father asked for help for his son, the son didn't ask. And he was healed. So was the centurions servant.

    Gospel of Mark -

I don't know about hard fast rules, but I think the Bible was written so we could see what can be done. So if the father asked for help for his son and received it and the centurion asked for help and received it, then we can too.

When the disciples ask in 9:28, “Why could we not cast it out?”, Jesus responds by saying “This kind (γένος) can come out only through prayer.” The first problem is that Jesus doesn’t pray to cause the spirit to come out. Why not? In the story, the reason that the spirit comes out is because the father believes.

I thought he meant they needed to pray more, like as in being prayed up in preparation for a spiritual battle. When it comes to casting out demons, as far as I've seen, you don't pray them out, you command them.

    WOW

And what a dumb thing for the guy to do, huh?

    I am blown away.

From what I am seeing sometimes other people are doing the asking, but how does that affect the other person's free will.

Maybe I need to breath and remember it is God's show.

I asked a guy, who is in a splinter of sorts, to pray for my "guy" and he told me "If he is not really into it, it is a waste of my time."

Waysider, Wow. Thanks for sharing that.

Dot, If someone tells you prayer is a waste of time, I wouldn't ask him for prayer any more, but that's just me.

  9. wrdsandwks, I haven't seen that photo of us in some time. Wow, all of our WOW brothers and cisterns. Thanks for posting that pic.

You're very welcome. Yeah, I dug it up from the ancient history files.

So who was in your WOW family? I remember Gary L. Who else?

With me was Lisa S. Debbie S. and Kay S.

  10. W & W

Why do you think we are not seeing more healings?

Is there more sin in the world, less people believe we can? What do you think is going on?

    Talked out of it? Fear?

Hi Dot, Well since you asked, I think that God is waiting for people like us to seek after the supernatural gifts and annointings like healing and working of miracles. I think he poured it out in the 40s and 50s on the healing evangelists and many of them either had character issues that couldn't handle the annointing or people took them and put them on pedestals as if they were the source of the power and made idols of them. Some of them started accepting the worship and fell that way. The book of Acts says (Acts 2:17-18)

    ...I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;

And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

Your young men shall see visions,

Your old men shall dream dreams.

And on My menservants and on My maidservants

    I will pour out My Spirit in those days;

    And they shall prophesy

I think that if we keep after it, and allow the Holy Spirit to change us and fix our characters and stay humble, giving God the glory, the power for healing and miracle working is there for the asking.

  11. hey, it's not like we were fighting you for the top. After all, nobody posted on any corps thread for 5 1/2 days.

Hi, LU I was just responding (in jest) to a friendly challenge about which corps is on the top. Friendly competition, comic relief from some of the deeper things discussed in the other threads, anyway thanks for being such a good sport.

  12. I was just at a conference where this was brought up. She said we can argue until the cows come home. She said, when she prays if it is in, on or an influence she prays it out, away and broken....

    I do not know.

I think they can be. An opinion

I've heard/read arguments on both sides of this question. I like what your conference speaker said, I'm with her, whether it's in, on, influencing, demonizing, possesing, controlling, or anything else, I just want it gone!

  13. Hey Fellowshipper,

Are you around? There's a pic of you in the Open thread "How do you picture your fellow posters?" It's a scan of a pic in the WayMag from 1976 in VA Beach when we were WOWS.

  14. What I think doesn't make sense it trying to define God. Since when does the creation get to define the Creator?

    I've said this before:

As long as God knows who He is, and Jesus knows who he is, then I'm fine. All I need to do is remember who I am and that I am neither God nor Jesus.

Wow, Dooj, another great insight. You seem to me to have a ministry of taking very complicated and convoluted subjects and distilling them down to a very pithy statement of truth. Thanks.

At one point I was very tied up in knots over the question of the trinity, how to define the relationship between God and Jesus Christ etc. I got really peaceful and relaxed when this thought similar to what you said above came to me. God knows who He is, He doesn't need me or anyone else to tell Him.

What that did for me really helped me get close to Him as God, not as a theololgical construct. Doesn't mean I'm not interested in what the Bible says about Him and who He is, just that it's not my responsibility to define Him, lest I make up a God of my own imagination, and one infinitely smaller and tamer than the God of all creation.

  15. But ... honestly ... my posts weren't meant to be funny or devilish. I have often thought of the manifestations as "intercourse", in a really wonderful sin-less way. I'm totally serious.

Shifra, read your previous post and thought is was truly insightful. Your perspective makes me think of I Cor. 6:16, 17

Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her, For the two, He says, shall become one flesh.

But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

Corinthians compares the way we "join" to the Lord "in the spirit" with sexual intercourse.

  16. mother-in-law!!! Woo hoo!!!

Bow jr. and his Pauliane got married today in Gatlinburg, TN! They've been together for 7 years and are really one of the best couples I know (just a little prejudiced, I know :biglaugh: ). I'm beside myself with joy!

I had probably the best mother-in-law ever as an example and I pray I'm half as good to my daughter-in-law as Mom was to me, may she rest in peace.

Pictures to come as I get permission.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Bow jr. and to the proud Mother-in-law. (Now you can start bugging em for grandbabies. (JK, LOL))

  17. Thanks for all the suggestions. I cropped them to make them smaller.

Here's a pic taken last week, uh I mean, last year, uh no several years ago. (July16, 1981)

    post-2964-1188266078_thumb.jpg

And, here's one taken before the invention of the printing press, I believe. I scanned this from the Apr/May? 1976 WayMag. That's me, the dizzy looking girl with the long blonde hair in the front.

Right behind me (the guy w longish hair, glasses, brown jacket) is another poster at GS.

Can anyone identify his GS screen name? Here's a hint, he lives down under.

  18. Dr Lester Sumrall 1913-1996

WOW was this the girl in the advanced class that was healed??? Remember bitten by devils or something?

It was. That tape from the Advanced Clas was of Lester Sumrall, giving his account of the healing of a 17 year old Philippina girl who was tormented by devils.

We have the book. I'd probably sell it for less than $875. (The link to Amazon has only one for $875.00)

    http://www.amazon.com/true-story-Clarita-V...r/dp/B0007J3JZW

Great stuff Dot, keep it coming.

  19. I went to a Pentecostal church for quite a while where this was common. The 1st meeting we went to there the worship was great, the teaching was great and then the pastor called people up to be ministered to for something (don't remember specifically what it was for) but people started falling, it was wild. Hubs and I looked at each other and said, it this the Holy Spirit and we both said, yes, this is for real.

So we took it slow, didn't go up for ministry for quite a while, just observed. But things were getting fixed in both of us just from being there and watching. It was amazing. I felt things coming off of me, like shame and fear.

There was one night when there was a prayer line and I went up. Bennie Hinn's wife was ministering and I was standing at the altar with a big crowd of others. I couldn't see where she was but when she got close to where I was in the line I could "feel" her annointing. It was intense. I started trembling. But it I knew it was the real deal because I still couldn't see where she was. She touched me and I went down like a shot. I didn't stay out long but when I got up I was so "drunk" I could hardly walk. I started to get up and I fell down on the nearest chair. It felt so good I can hardly describe it.

The other thing I should mention about this church is that when we started going there I had been trying for years to have another child. I was emotionally wounded because I had a series of miscarriages and wanted very badly to have another baby. I received the healing there that I needed to give birth to our wonderful daughter, Aimee. She is truly a gift from God.

  20. I do not consider myself a follower of VP.

Sorry Dot, I knew that, it was late last night when I posted, didn't mean to imply that you are.

It's just that I know I was convinced that those who practice this were "operating devil spirits" because of what I was taught in TWI and thus was very careful about exposing myself to it. Still am.

It was confusing as that is what we were taught, but I have since looked it up all over the net and it seems like the church arguments against it are stronger than the arguments for the whole experience.

Yes, I am still going as it is close to what I believe in all other aspects. Thanks for your sharing
