So it would be a reasonable idea that the 'nasty / evil / boot-licking / a$$hole' characteristics may have been painted on thicker as a person climbed higher up the ladder. Edited to be more gentle: I do not intend to be insulting to ALL Way Corps grads. I have not met all of them, nor do I intend to (within this life). My observations are limited to those individuals within which I have had dealings. I have been told that the majority of Way Corpse Grads were gentle kind and loving. Such has not been my observations, and I can only speak to that which I have both seen and heard. From among those Corpse of whom I have dealt, the majority of them ended as severely negative experiences. I had assumed that such was always the case with most Average Joe Believers. If anyone takes anything that I have written personally and feels insulted, I apologize. I can only speak concerning those of whom I have dealt with myself. On numerous occasions I have named Corpse Grads who have acted un-kindly and carried themselves in a manner which brought a bad name to Christianity. If you are not among those I have so named, then obviously you were never a complete idiot in your dealings with me. What we say to ourselves, in our thinking. It is perhaps yet another thing what we say out in public and to others. Do you take the idea of "No compromising..." to mean that I can not allow myself to be within the room while someone else knowingly does compromise? Or that you yourself you will not allow any compromises, but you can still be aware of and ‘sharpening’ yourself when you travel the world and see others making compromises? “My trust in others was shattered . . . “ Yes TWI had it’s problems. It was not perfect, nor was totally wrong either. Some people did see opportunities for ‘bettering’ themselves, they saw who to suck-up to for advancement. Often young and in-experienced people were put into positions of authority over others, and from all of the problems some leaders became very abusive. But that is / was a large group of people. “ "iron sharpeneth iron" meant confronting your friends no matter how harshly you did it and growth would come out of it.” And yet I thought it meant discussing the Word, and studying it with others who were like-minded. The corporate body of people within TWI got focused on confronting each other. But that is forgetting the Love that is also ours. “. . . I find it so difficult to cultivate friendships.” Yes the failing of TWI, did leave it’s mark onto thousands. I am sorry. I certainly don’t feel entirely responsible for it, but rather I was there and I saw others taken advantage of. G-d loves us. Jesus died for us. “. . . I just zap them!” Be gentle. Our father’s love is great, He is also willing to work in their lives. None of us are perfect, we are all walking on the path, He is still working in each of us. “When I see weakness in their lives and I feel they are too wimpish, I speak up. I dont know how to be compasionate. “ I suppose that I have advantages over you here, in my life I have done things that have been fairly bad. I KNOW that way more compassion and forgiveness has been shown by Our Heavenly Father in forgiving and loving me, then would seem reasonable. I just checked again, and I must say that the prices are currently down fairly reasonable again. For me to go into New York it jsut quoted me $47 each way, for the 2 hour trip. Not bad. I also looked at a trip down to Maryland (Bonnie goes go there 2 or 3 times a year to visit her sister), it quoted me $77 each way. Again not bad.

I have used Amtrak a number of times, in the 80's and 90's. I always really liked it, and enjoyed the sleeper cars. Once on-board with a passenger-ticket you could usually up-grade to a sleeper car for $20. Since coming back stateside that last time, I have looked at Amtrek a number of times, and I have really been surprized at how much the prices have gone up. From here New London Connecticut, we used to be able to ride into New York for around $30. Now it is $200. I was trying to help our eldest son go attend a 'Live out loud' conference in Michigan, but again the prices were crazy. He ended up driving out there on his bike, and he spent less than a tenth of what the ticket would have cost.

I was just (this morning) listening to a teaching from a friend of mine out in San Diego. He was making a point about the influence of movies and the media on our minds. We can read something, and G-d can work in our minds-eye so that we can form our own image of what something was like. The more we study the Word, perhaps that image will change and become more in tune with the written record. But once we have seen a movie, then those images are frozen in our minds describing the scene. For example: The Ten Commandments. Did Moses look like Charlton Heston? Likely not. Is it a big thing? or not. Moses would have been of darker skin tone. and he stuttered. In public he never spoke for himself, Joshua spoke for him; so Moses never said to Pharaoh "Let my people go". But Heston did. Moses was on the mountain talking to an angel who stood beside a bush. And afterwards as an effect from being in the 'presence' his face shown with a glory such that others could not look directly at Moses' face. They had to cover his face with a veil, for him to travel in public. Heston did not walk around veiled everywhere. Samson if shown in a cartoon movie, is shown as a body-builder. If a movie was shot today Arnold Schwartz____ would possibly be filmed in the title role. Our mind's image of Samson is then set. We begin to think of him as a strong man. But the Philistines asked "where does your strength come from?" Was that because he was obviously a strong man? It is possible that to be in harmony with the Biblical account Samson should be played by Don Knots. Whether someone agrees with TWI's account of the days of Jesus' ministry, or not. There certainly is room for doubting the World's account of it either. I know from my reading that Jesus was tortured. He was beaten. He bled. He died. He also got up again. Do I need to have my senses assaulted, by 2 hours of witnessing a man beaten, to make it any more 'real' for myself?

Your story of sub-skimmer warfare seemed a little 'hopeless', the idea is to sink everyone before the hunters find you, or make yourself 'impossible' to find (quite, under a thermal-layer, or wedged in among the silty-muck on the bottom). All around Jerusalem there are so many hills covered with old graves, I had thought that possibly during an earth quake say a dozen graves were un-earthed such that those bodies slid out, and down a hill side (possibly tumbling in the process) and a crowd of people were there frightened by the earthquake and doubly frightened at the sight of those bodies sliding and tumbling down the slope. I could see that stories that would have circulated. If this was the same quake that damaged the temple curtain, I could see accounting it to Phenominon. Jumping to conclusions, screaming in the faces of their followers, declaring that this 10-year beleiver is a 'seed-boy', or that 20-year beleiver possessed. Demanding every minute of your day for the ministry. . . . . Was that VPW's presentation of himself? I dont know. I heard him on audio cassettes of PFAL for years, saw him on video at 'renewed mind' classes, 'intermediate' classes and all the various video classes. I saw him on video when I went through the advanced class. VPW did not present himself in such a manner in those videos. Which I would have to assume is where most of us got their impression of the man and what he was like. Not exactly a duplicate of what we saw in the behavior of many corpse-nazis, soon after VPW died. I dont know, but I think they got acting that way from LCM.

excathedra: I know that you were hurt, and I know that many others were hurt as well. I do not mean to negate your hurt, or in anyway say anything negative about it. I fully realize that for many people their hurt is very real. I am simply an outsider in that context. I was only in TWI from 1979 - 1997, and I had very limited exposure to 'leadership'. The few times that I was exposed to Limb Coordinators, generally I found them to be egotistical, boot-licking, narrow-minded idiots. I truly pray that some day those who expereinced so much hurt will be able to heal. From my position I have also seen great damage done to the christian community in other churches as well, TWI has certainly not been unique, nor the only example of it. I (and well as many others) did however find many of the things taught within PFAL, to be helpfull. Can a priest accidentaly teach truth while he is torturing a faithful beleiver during the inquisition? Perhaps, I dont know. To my direct personal experience the only real mean nasty evil behavior that I was a victim of was done by Corpse-nazis. People obviously drawn to power, and without any real 'heart' for people or God's Word. "i just can't figure how he could be a godly loving person but this is due to my time spent with him and his sharing of his "logic" "Love" and all that" There are things in life for which I have no answer, I am sorry. I am very thankful for PFAL and a little thankful for TWI. I dont care where VPW got his information. Good information is still good information. I fullwell realize that as a man, he had issues and he hurt people. He also helped thousands. Studying the Bible is good (at least in my 'book'). It certainly makes more sense than did anything that I had learned while in the Baptist church or the Methodist. TWI did not have the corner on the market for abusing people. We put ten percent aside into a separate bank account. We do not send any of it routinely to any purpose, but only when moved to do so. Sometimes to friends in need, or sometimes ? For a few years we purchased KJV Bibles by the case and stocked library shelves and waiting rooms with them. On a few occasions when I have seen beggars, I have helped sometimes. Obviously stateside, I have done it far less often then while living overseas. The last time, it was a broken down van on a freeway offramp, they had a flat tire did not have a spare and insisted that after fixing the old tire they would not have enough gas-money to get home. (this occured in Connecticut, their license plates were Maine). I emptied my wallet for them and offered to feed the couple dinner in my home. Very seldom on occasion I see a daughter of Job, or a brother of Hiram in need; I assist in what methods I am able.

herbiejuan: "The Simpsons" "ya got to listen close but it's there" Really? We had kind of lumped 'The Simpsons' in with 'Southpark'. It had seemed to us that both were fairly dis-respectful, and encouraged children to dis-order. We have only watched either of them very breifly, when we returned stateside last. Since gaining that impression of both shows, we have not watched them. Rather it is easiler for us to just leave the Telly off, unless there is a specific show that we desire to catch. Unfortunately it is a fairly common occurance that whatever show we were wanting to catch, gets canceled of 'bumped'. So scheduling our time becomes useless.

While stationed in Italy, we were told a few times about "sex and the city" and that we just had to see it when we returned stateside, I rented one episode once, we watched maybe 10 minutes. For many years I have heard about the Radio jockey Howard Stern, and that he had a TV show. Now living on the East Coast we get it on TV, I watched it once and a few minutes. I have worked in 2 police departments which each mirrored 'The Shield', I watched it a few times, I was just amazed that they could so capture the essence of Law Enforcement politics. 'Reality shows' and the Simpsons. There are people who live on this junk. Our 7, 9 and 10 years old come home and recite lines from each of these shows. Their peers absorb that garbage everyday. We watch the: local news, West Wing, Star Trek - Enterprize, JAG or NCIS, otherwise the TV is off (except for PFAL, or Dr Dino)

Is that the 'best' way to raise children? I dont know. I have been through many courses on handling children (as required to be a state-licensed foster parent). I still beleive in spanking on occassion, but now I also understand a far-wider array of options. I am tired of wall-charts of privledges, weekly lists of chores, getting calls from the school every week, weekly trips to therapists and monthly visits by social workers. A couple of times after we had left foster children at home with our eldest son, he thanked us for spanking him when he was smaller; he insisted that children raised entirely without it, run out of control. The children we have now, were neglected, and largely had to raise themselves. When we got them, they (8,7 and 6) did not know how to use a fork. They could however feed themselves on cold cans of olives, or tuna. Thye have had a very difficult time getting used to the idea that a dining room is for eating in, and that everyone can eat at the same time around a common meal or dinner. We have came a long way in domesticating these children and in showing them the value of an education. But still if let out of our eye-sight for a minute they run completely out of control. They are not allowed to go into any grocery store or any store as a group, we keep them at home and one adult can take one child to a store at a time. Otherwise they run lose, pulling things off shelves, sprinting up and down the aisles, knocking into carts, sampling any food they find, and stuffing their pockets. On the other hand, I was raised by fairly authoritarian parents. My earliest memory is being 'spanked' with a shovel when I was 4. I have always resented my father, because he had always beaten me with implements (shovel, hoe, horse-whip, block and tackle, cattle-prod, etc). I remember only one time when he did hit me with his fist, it was because he caught me hiding from him, but that was the only time he ever hit me with his hands. He did kick me and stomp on me a few times. I saw him this past summer and asked him about those times. He said that he had to do those things because he had to 'get your attention'. He did not think that he could get my attention or that I could focus on him, without first exhausting himself beating me with an implement. I remember during the Vietnam War, one of my brothers came home in his army uniform and went out on our tractor and disced an orchard for our father. When our father came home and inspected the orchard he found that the disc had not been set deep enough, so our father went out to my brother, pulled him down off of the tractor, beat him with a cattle-prod and stomped on him. Looking back now, I realize that in my father's eyes he needed to do this before he could explain that the disc had to be set deeper into the ground, as it was his method of 'getting my brother's attention'. Today I see a possible need at times, for spanking but not all of the time, and not as the only method of disciplining a child. Without any threat of spanking at all, a parent may not carry the authority with a child. I think that the 'threat' of the spanking is enough most times, even when removing a privledge or performing a time-out. I was never asked to. I would imagine that since there exist many of us who have been government trained to kill, and who have in fact killed for our government; it would not be that far of a stretch that if a vet or a policeman were convinced that the need to kill such a person were 'real'. Come to think of it, I have a story that I dont think I have told within Greasespot Cafe. A friend who worked for me during my last year on active duty, Mark, was a Navy reservist who had worked as a Sherif's Deputy in Oklahoma City. Immediately after the partial-bombing in Oklahoma City, he had spent 72 hours straight with his dog dragging bodies from the rubble, and his dog eventually died from everything he had inhaled during the digging. After Mark retired from Law Enforcement, he went active back into the Navy, to finish his Navy retirement. When he was first assigned to work for me, I could not arm him because the Navy shrinks were not ready to let him be armed. During his career as a deputy he had killed 7, each had been investigated and cleared as 'good' shoots. When he walked into a situation with a perp holding a weapon, he would first thank the perp for getting him another vacation, and he would tell the perp what he was going to be doing for the next two weeks during his un-expected vacation. Then he would explain that by killing the perp, he would automatically get a two week phsychiatric-leave, and since the perp was brandishing a weapon and threatening people, the shoot's investigation would be fast and would clear him. Sometimes this explaination would so scare a perp that they would drop their weapon, sometimes they would doubt Mark's explanation and Mark would get another two weeks of paid medical leave. Mark told me about his behavior, when he started working for me, and later when I was allowed to arm him, I observed the behavior. Unfortunately in the Navy, we dont give two weeks of medical leave so easily.
