  1. Larry and all, I was taught that - like when something bad happens and someone says, "Well, the adversary is working on me hard." It was glorifying the adversary instead of putting God first with a response like, "God, I can't wait to see how you get me out of this one." As for fairies and magic -- yes they are kids but those kind of things are not glorified in the Word. Especially magic. You can teach your children about the power of God and he protects and is bigger than anything and everything. I would also maybe have a talk with the parents, not in a harsh tone but especially about "the devil coming into daddies room and suffocating him." I would ask what that is about and explain that it scares the children. Also, tell them people are entitled to their opinions whether you believe they true or not is up to you.
  2. That is so sad Belle. I recall something similar happening where I was -- the lady wasn't asked to leave but did not like the pressure and sort of faded out on her own. I was always confused on that because in "the class" it's taught that everyone has a role -- just like your body. The thumb is just as important as the stomach, etc. So, not everyone is a teacher, not everyone does the same thing but I always felt like we were pushed to ALL teach. Some people bless others in little ways. And, they usually turn out to be the biggest ways.
  3. I was taught in an offshoot but these guidelines still applied. I was told I needed the class over and over - I think I've sat through it like over 20 times. (Somethings wrong....you need the class!) However, I can say it did help me, yes I have my bitterness in areas but overall it did change my life. It answered alot of questions I had. I think it comes down to picking on the flesh of the person that provided the class. I can pick on that person's flesh alot -- but they did spend time with me and taught me. I have my flaws to. I'm sure anyone could pick them out but God loves us as we are. From what I have gathered in these threads is LCM really took down the ministry as most of you were in after Wierwille passed away. However, I have gathered it wasn't peaches and cream when he was alive but it got way worse with LCM. It's a shame because right now I am torn - I love the word I was taught but also see the faults in leaders. But one thing I was told that helps me everyday - I, yes I was given the ministry of reconciliation by God -- so I have a ministry, my own ministry. I don't need a leader to tell me what to do as long as I stick with God.
  4. Oops -- didn't mean to post.
  5. Hey ya'll. We had a BBQ for the Bucs today (boo-hoo they lost) However, I made this awesome spinach dip. It's a copycat of Applebee's spinach dip - served hot with tortilla chips and it's super easy! 1 (10 ounce) box frozen chopped spinach, thawed 1 (14 ounce) can artichoke hearts, drained and roughly chopped 1 cup shredded parmesan-romano cheese mix 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese 10 ounces prepared alfredo sauce 1 teaspoon minced garlic 4 ounces softened cream cheese pepper (optional) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine ingredients thoroughly in a bowl and spread mixture into a small baking dish (I used an 8" X 8" dish). Bake for 25-30 minutes or until cheeses are bubbling and melted. Serve with chips or bread and enjoy. Here's a link for a pic: http://www.recipezaar.com/111797 I also made the cold Knorr spinach dip the recipe has been posted on here previously - it's on the back of the Knorr Vegetable soup package - served with pumpernickel bread and tortilla chips also) and one guy loved that one -- the other one loved the hot one. So it was a great combo. Both are REALLY easy!
  6. Artichokes I think I may take this to the football bbq tomorrow -- we'll see. ***I don't want to take up bandwith -- so here is a sauce (Lemon Citronette) that looks good for anything (i.e. salad, chicken, fish, yummo!) http://foodwishes.blogspot.com/2007/02/cit...l-it-lemon.html
  7. Pot RoastI posted this in the slow cooker thread. It turned out really good. I wanted to cook it a little longer but hubby was *dying* literally to eat. It was still nice and tender. What I would do different: I've read you can flour the meat before seasoning and searing which helps to thicken the sauce -- I may try that next time as I'm not very good with make roux. I would peal the garlic and then pierce it because the unpeeled garlic ended up peeling and then I had to fish out the covering (which resembled onions). I used potatos (because I know hubby) that was his first question - "Where are the potatos?" Overall it turned out well for me being not that experienced with this cooking method.
  8. Here's a recipe from Rachael Ray which looks yummo and hubby insists I make it! As usual - I'll let you know how it goes. Haha. -- pics are here: http://www.rachaelrayshow.com/?q=recipes/b...hicken-burritos Buffalo Chicken Burritos A traditional Mexican dish gets kicked up North. ingredients 8 medium-size flour tortillas 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO) 2 tablespoons butter 2 pounds ground, all-white meat chicken breast 1 large carrot, peeled and finely chopped 1 large onion, chopped 3 ribs celery, finely chopped 5 large cloves garlic, chopped Salt and freshly ground black pepper 1 cup chicken stock (eyeball it) 1/4 to 1/2 cup hot sauce, depending on how hot you like it 1 15-ounce can black beans, drained and rinsed 1/4 cup (about handful) cilantro leaves, chopped 3/4 pound grated Manchego cheese or crumbled blue cheese, divided 2 avocados, cut into bite-size pieces 2 vine-ripe tomatoes, seeded and chopped preparation Preheat oven to 250°F. Wrap the flour tortillas in a damp kitchen towel and place in the low oven until they warm through and become pliable. Place a large skillet over medium-high heat; add 1 turn of the pan of EVOO, about 1 tablespoon, and the butter. Once the butter has melted and the pot is hot, add the ground chicken. Cook until brown, about 5-6 minutes, using the back of a wooden spoon to break the meat up into small pieces. Add the carrot, onion, celery, garlic and some salt and pepper. Cook, stirring frequently, for about 3-4 minutes. Add the chicken stock, scraping up any brown bits on the bottom of the pot. Add the hot sauce, black beans and the cilantro. Stir to combine and cook until the beans are heated through, a minute or two. Remove the warm tortillas from the oven, place a few heaping spoonfuls of the buffalo chicken/black bean mixture on the bottom of a tortilla, but don’t overfill it. Top with some cheese, avocado and tomato. Roll the short end of the tortilla over the filling, fold in the other two sides and then continue to roll it up until you have a tight burrito package. Once you have finish rolling all the burritos, turn the oven up to broil. Place burritos in a shallow backing dish and sprinkle with remaining cheese, place under the broiler for 2-3 minutes to melt the cheese. Yields 4 servings
  9. No, this person just found this stuff out via internet research on THE WAY and VPW. Never with the Way. And didn't bother to ask my beliefs.
  10. Thank you Oldie -- I didn't know what to think! I've never studied Holocaust, I've never been taught that -- but this person is Jewish and says she has forgiven me and can't go on being friends with me with out stating this. At first I told her, "I never did believe that." But now it just enrages me that she accused me without asking and then said I was affiliated with The Way. I said, "No I was taught by people who were at one time in The Way." I'm praying to just let this go -- but it really infuriates me that she assumed I was apart of this. Never bothered to ask me personally. And then judged me. And, I wrote her a nice e-mail back stating (just where I never was taught that) what I stated to you all and I have yet to receive an apology. It just kinda gets me going on people like this -- Like The View on ABC -- we have these people that want to talk about all the hurt and how they were abused (Rosie O'donnell, now Whoopie Goldberg stating dog fighting is in the black culture). I understand that. But why dwell on that? Why not move on and work on bettering society so it doesn't happen again? Educate. Teach humanity. I'm sorry but this woman falsely accused me and that just breeds hate -- I am praying for the pain and annoynance to go away and I don't want to feed the wolf. I just wanted to ask you oldies on here if it was true. Thanks for the links guys.
  11. It has recently come to my attention that VPW taught that the Holocaust never happened or the numbers were radically skewed. I was accused (without being asked first if I believed it) of this -- even though I have never been in The Way (taught in an offshoot) and was never taught such a thing. It ....es me off that I was judged just because of some internet research and something I was never taught because I was never in THE WAY. To all you oldies: Did VPW really teach this? Or is this an internet rumor?
  12. Hey everyone. Okay -- I'm finally making the pot roast (haha) and I'm trying this recipe. So far, so good (except for the roux -- some of the flour chunked, I think the pan was still too hot -- I WILL get this roux business down one day!) But, it still looks good. Nothing major. I transferred the meat to the slow cooker to simmer for hours (vs. the dutch oven). Oh and mine is a round roast I cut into three sections and I didn't have fresh herbs so I just mixed in some dried rosemarry and thyme. I'll let you know how it turns out! I'm debating the parsnips he adds (hubby is potato man). We'll see. P.S. I will try Dooj's recipe next time I cook pot roast which will be in a few weeks as hubby is a meat man.
  13. We bought a portable smoker -- it's for beginners. I've never done it before and I'm excited. Anyone have any good sauces or rubs for the meat? Or wood ideas? Does anyone else smoke in the smoker?
  14. Hello everyone. I have learned from each and every comment. I am on a rant now -- which began when I started this thread. How can someone tell someone they are lazy? Not working hard enough? When every aspect of my life shows more reward than the fellow "leader" who graduated from TWI which is not an acredited college! This doesn't address anyone, this is only for me and I'm sorry if this seems selfish. I've been told how selfish I am so many times I've come to believe it. I go out of my way to help people but then everything is unethical. It is just wrong! I can't say too much but I'm done, I'm ....ed, I'm mad and I can say THIS IS NOT RIGHT!
  15. Looking for a good beef stew recipe! Chas or anyone else will you post it?

    Soups

It's been requested for a soup link -- some good recipes for tomato soup have been posted under Sandwiches -- but let's start a soup thread. I rarely make soups but it's something I would like to learn in my future. Here is a recipe I have and enjoy for vegetable soup. I make this in the crockpot (slow cooker) and I add or omit ingredients -- but it always turns out good. It is important to cook a few veggies before adding them -- you will read in the directions: 2 tablespoons olive oil 1 large onion, chopped 4 cloves garlic, pressed 2 large carrots, chopped 2 small celery stalks, chopped 1 medium turnip, chopped 2 cups green beans, cut in 1-inch pieces 1/4 head cabbage, chopped 2 small russet potatoes, peeled and chopped 1/2 teaspoon thyme Salt and pepper to taste 2 cans diced tomatoes, undrained 6 cups chicken broth (or vegetable broth) In a large soup pot, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook until nearly translucent, then add the garlic. Don't let the garlic brown and saute another couple of minutes. Add the rest of the chopped veggies, sauteing for just a minute or two; the extra tablespoon of olive oil is if you need it for the rest of the veggies. Remember — you're not cooking them, just sauteing them for the wonderful flavor this quick step will infuse in your soup. Add the thyme and salt and pepper while sauteing. Now put the veggies in the Crock Pot, add the tomatoes and broth. Cook on low 7-9 hours (depending on your Crock Pot) or high 4-6 hours. Just before serving, gently mash some of the potato chunks against the side of the Crock Pot to thicken the soup. Then give it a stir and serve. Quick Fixes for variations on the Basic Veggie Soup *Now remember, don't do these to the whole pot of soup! Just the little bit you pull out to fix yourself for lunch so that you can do all the Quick Fixes. Quick Fix No. 1: Tex Mex Veggie Soup. Add some (eyeball it — how much do you want?) canned black beans (drained and rinsed), a little bit of cumin and chopped cilantro. Top with some tortilla chips and cheese, or serve with a quesadilla. Quick Fix No. 2: Tuscan Veggie Soup. Add some (eyeball it again) canned cannellini (white kidney beans) or white beans (drained and rinsed), a little bit of Italian seasoning and some chopped kale. Cook until heated through and the kale is tender. Quick Fix No. 3: Minestrone Veggie Soup. Add some cooked pasta, a little dried basil and top with a fresh grating of Parmesan cheese. Quick Fix No. 4: Autumn Veggie Soup. Add some diced acorn squash or butternut squash, a handful of cooked brown rice, a sprinkling of nutmeg and some chopped parsley. 17. This was my grandma's favorite and I have great "home" memories with this sandwich -- there's really nothing to it. Leftover chicken or turkey 2 slices of bread Butter each bread slice Add ALOT of crushed pepper Place meat on bread (maybe add more pepper) Eat! It's always been a southern home staple with leftovers. (Served with tomato slices on the side) Oh my -- these look delicious too -- I LOVE avocados! http://whatscookingamerica.net/Sandwich/Av...oTomatoMelt.htm http://whatscookingamerica.net/Appetizers/...adoCrostini.htm
  18. Thanks for the tip! No, I didn't serve it with pasta but that's a good idea. The sun-dried tomato sauce would be good alone with pasta (I imagine). I served it with asparagus (trying to cut down the carbs). And the goat cheese the restaurant uses is spreadable where as I used room temperature crumbled (which sort of spread) -- but it's what I had already. I have to work on making sauces, rues, etc. Everytime I try I mess it up. I did alright this time -- it just cooked down so fast. I also cut the chicken breast into halfs / quarter (smaller pieces -- not the whole breast) - (that's how they serve it at the restaurant). Hubby liked it and said it tasted very close to the real thing. I'm looking up pot roast recipes now for Sunday or Monday -- there are so many of them! We'll probably go out to eat today :)
  19. I posted this in the Chicken section -- but to stay organized I'm posting here to tell you how it went: Chicken Bryan -- Carrabba's Recipe (A well-known Italian Restaurant) http://www.recipezaar.com/64356 1 tablespoon minced garlic 1 tablespoon minced yellow onions 2 tablespoons butter 1/2 cup dry white wine 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice 2/3 cup cold butter, sliced 1 1/2 cups chopped sun-dried tomatoes 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt 1/2 teaspoon white pepper 6 boneless skinless chicken breast halves extra virgin olive oil, for brushing 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon black pepper 8 ounces caprino goat cheese or other goat cheese, room temperature Saute garlic and onion in 2 Tbls. butter in a large skillet over medium heat until tender. Stir wine and lemon juice into skillet, increase heat to medium high, and simmer to reduce by half. Reduce heat to low and stir in cold butter, one slice at a time. Stir in tomatoes, basil, kosher salt, and white pepper; remove from heat; set aside. Brush chicken breasts with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and black pepper. Grill chicken over hot coals 15-20 minutes, or until cooked through. A couple of minutes before chicken is done, place equal amounts of cheese on each breast Spoon prepared sun-dried tomato sauce over chicken. This turned out really well. It was hard to keep everything going at the same time though and I had to make 3 rounds of extra sauce because it kept going away (wine / lemon juice) while I was dealing with the chicken. Next time I'm just going to cook the chicken in a skillet vs. our inside grill (which set off the smoke alarm because of all the olive oil). I think this would also be good with roasted red pepper and feta. The sun dried tomatos are really strong for me but hubby liked them as he said it balanced out the goat cheese. Let me know if ya'll try it.
  20. Okay - I'm making this today and I'll let you know how it turns out: Chicken Bryan -- Carrabba's Recipe (A well-known Italian Restaurant) http://www.recipezaar.com/64356 1 tablespoon minced garlic 1 tablespoon minced yellow onions 2 tablespoons butter 1/2 cup dry white wine 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice 2/3 cup cold butter, sliced 1 1/2 cups chopped sun-dried tomatoes 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt 1/2 teaspoon white pepper 6 boneless skinless chicken breast halves extra virgin olive oil, for brushing 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon black pepper 8 ounces caprino goat cheese or other goat cheese, room temperature Saute garlic and onion in 2 Tbls. butter in a large skillet over medium heat until tender. 21. So, I've been trying to be the good wife and cook a little more. I'm still not the best cook but practice makes perfect. I came across this website of "unique" sandwiches. Some sounded very interesting and things I would never try but now want to let my taste buds explore. http://ask.metafilter.com/52160/Sandwichs Does anyone have a sandwich that they consider a comfort food or just plain great? All of mine are pretty basic: 1. Fried eggs, bacon, cheese, mayo, mustard 2. Tomato slices, cheese, mayo ( still love this one!) 3. Grilled cheese with tomato soup 4. Turkey, bacon, avacodo I guess I'm not that adventurous. However about a year ago I heard about the 5. Potato chip sandwich -- potato chips between two slices of mayonaised bread -- oh yeah it's good!
  22. Pot Roast -- Does anyone have a good recipe for pot roast in the slow cooker? I'm going to brown the outside first on high heat and then let cook for hours -- but I'm mainly looking for a sauce to add. I'm considering some water, Worchestire, a little vinegar? Anyone have ideas? I'll add potatos and carrots about half way through.
  23. In my "Walnut research" they also stain baskets with the dye from the hulls -- and clothes, wood, etc. There are also medicines made from the hulls. I just want the dang nut for baking, etc. haha. Intersting nut!
  24. Pond, How do you get the hulls off? I've heard it's better to remove them when green. The only way I have figured out is soaking them and then peeling them with a knife (I haven't read this anywhere). You said you let them turn brown and then remove. Just curious. I'm having a time with these things!
  25. I believe Christian's can be possessed but it's only when they are off on their walk with God. Like they are getting drunk, doing drugs, etc. Spirits come and go as they please and they always have to have a host. I've heard stories of spiritual possession and the person said, "It was like they were standing back hearing their voice." Esp. the alcoholic spirit -- Leviathon - who can drink up the sea. That's why some people can have 2 drinks and be fine others drink a 12 pack and still act completely normal. In Matthew it talks about what is believed to be an alcoholic spirit. How each time it progressively gets worse because the old spirit brings with it 7 other spirits more wicked than it. Holy Spirit from God is seed but I still believe you can be or become possessed when you open a trap door. There are or is even a devil spirit named Jesus. There are so many spirits -- how many Christians have committed suicide? (debil spirit) Are alcoholics? (debil spirit). Murdered? (debil spirit). The adversary's main goal is to get you to worship him no matter in what form, as long as you are not being loyal to the true God. But seed is seed. I can denounce my father and claim someone else is my father -- but DNA will always prove I am my father's.
