"I got pulled over this morning for having all the mirrors in the Mercedes turned so I could see myself." " I never use catalogs. I'd rather go in the store and see all the salespeople groveling and sucking up to you." "Pardon me, I never knew they were so solicitous at the K-Mart." "50 animals died because of that coat!" "Wanna make it 51?" George -
Mr. Floppy was a character on the show. Steve!, why don't you go ahead? George

Depends on how nice the home is, I guess. George

I didn't vote, because I have IE6, Firefox, and Chrome. I usually use IE6, though. George

Yes. (Actually, it's "The Dark Knight.") I think it would have been cleverer, though, had I done it this way... You're up! George

As fond as I am of Jennifer's form, I don't watch shows that involve communication with the dead. (Well, I do watch "Supernatural," but that's mostly about demons, not the "living" dead.) New show soon... George -

Is this the DS9 episode where Major Kira had been guilty of terrorist activities (pre-DS9) and Odo covered it up? George -
Best wishes until your return (soon, I hope). George

As Dooj pointed out, if there were NO good times, who would have stayed (if he had a choice)? But that doesn't mean that good times were somehow used to keep people in. What? Were there clandestine leaders' meetings where they said "We're going to really abuse these folks in a few months. Make sure to give them some good times first, so they'll stay"? That's not how it worked in MY experience. George

Okay, assuming you don't recognize that particular Adam Sandler character, how about this for the second pic: :) George

Although all of those are fairly recent, I doubt that they would pass WW's criterion of "not obscure." (Of course, I guessed Friday the 13th!) George -

Interesting, Excie. When I saw "I'll show you what's good about being alive," I assumed it was a positive affirmation of your life NOW, not a reminder of a past abuse. God knows I'm not telling you to forget anything, but I really hope that you DO show others what's good about being alive. And that's something that VPW just can't do! George

I believe that my BC used "nerds" in the sense of unsophisticated, poor, and/or ill, not in the sense of skilled with technology! (Though considering TWI's aversion to computers...) George

I didn't want to take off on a tangent in the "Purges" thread, but something Word Wolf posted struck a chord: "Witnessing" was to be focused on people who had "all their teeth" and their own cars and so on- effectively, people who had no needs, leaving only people who could be USED by twi and not be expected to need things in return. So, new arrivals were being SCREENED before they joined- which meant new arrivals arrived in MUCH smaller numbers. I distinctly remember my BC mentioning to me at my last ROA (1996?) that "we weren't witnessing to nerds anymore." We should be trying to bring in the more well-to-do of the local populace. I asked if we weren't trying to help people anymore. I don't remember his fumbled answer, but it was something on the order of "rich people need the Word, too." When did this become the official doctrine for witnessing? George

In 1979, I was in my first full year with Twig Fellowships and taking the Advanced Class. I was 23 also. I would consider those some of MY good times. I'm very sorry how horrible it must have been for you. :( George
