Picard goes back on board to get his saddle and winds up foiling the plot. Everyone else was on the spaceport at a party, hosted by the infamous Cmd. Hutchinson, who had an unparalleled capacity for small talk. That is, until he met Data. :) George

Since fornication and adultery are both sins, that hardly matters. What was the big misdirection (IMHO) was trying to make every reference to fornication an account of spiritual fornication (i.e., idolatry). Hey, VP, why would God use (physical) fornication to represent idolatry if fornication weren't wrong, too? George

I believe VP explained this as God "winking" at his ignorance, as he did for Gideon. When VP became "more spiritually mature," such phenomenal evidence was no longer necessary. George
