  4. I don't post as much in the Open and About the Way threads as I used to, and haven't posted in Doctrinal in years. Why? Because it is largely the same discussions as when I joined, only with different participants. Does that mean it's boring? No. I think newbies need to work out the same issues that we old-timers did (and, in some cases, still do). I just don't have much to add to those discussions. People come and go here as they please, and that's as it should be. I enjoy the camaraderie and, if I may use the word, fellowhip, even if it's primarily virtual. As for me and my house, we choose to hang out here! :B) George
  5. I said, "You're on, buddy, my mill's runnin' fine Let's come off the line now, at Sunset and Vine." George
  6. Jodie Foster Silence of the Lambs Anthony Hopkins George
  7. It might have been a little different in the Houston area, perhaps because we were spread pretty wide. Though we were asked to come to the "prayer location" if we were close, we could do our hour of prayer from home. I guess we just didn't reach the level of heartlessness that was found elsewhere. George
  8. Andy Garcia Ocean's Eleven Elliot Gould George
  9. "House of the Rising Sun" It's been covered recently, but I still prefer the Animals' version. George
  10. Though I'm sure there was an SIT alert for VP's death, the only one I remember specifically came hen my branch leader told me that "Ermal Owens was waiting the Return." Completely oblivious to the euphemism, I thought Ermal had received some revelation about the imminent appearing of Christ! I caught on quickly after that, though. George
  11. Something Wild Jeff Daniels Dumb and Dumber George
  12. Yes, Cindy! is correct. A charming episode. My favorite exchange is Riker recruiting Worf: "When you're out-gunned, out-manned, and out-equipped --what else do you have left?" "Guile." "Join me." George
  13. All of the correct terms are in Suda's guesses. Though not on PBS, this show was syndicated. It lasted five seasons. George
  14. Last clues. I'm not copying them all again, so just add these to the previous ones. If no one else gets it, WW, please chime in. "You'll have warp drive, Captain, though it may not be what you expected." "I'd say that calls for an explanation." "Sir, we'll be able to give you warp one..." "-- for just under two seconds." "Well, not enough for an escape but used as a surprise, sufficient for gaining a strategic advantage." "Sir, all of this is 'theoretical'." "And if the theory fails to pay off?" "Ever driven a Grenthemen Water Hopper?" "Yes." "Ever popped the clutch?" "You're telling me we'll stall the ship?" "As the Starfleet observer I am ordering you to withdraw!" "I am the captain of this vessel! Your order is nullified!" "At the captain's signal, we will fire four photon torpedoes directly at the Hathaway. A millisecond before detonation, the computer will trigger your warp jump." "I think I hate this plan. We don't even know for sure if our warp jump will work." "If the warp engines should fail to function, the result could be... unfortunate." "Very unfortunate... we will be dead." "I busted him up." George
  15. Ok, then. Here's one definitely NOT on PBS. Ok, then. Here's one definitely NOT on PBS. three pics George
  16. Cute. But since I won't be around most of the day, I'll pass on answering and give someone else a chance. George
  17. I've never heard of "Ramses' Kitchen." I just made that up! Are you serious? I wonder, because you mention "The F Word." I know there's a show called "The L Word." George
  18. I'm not sure how to make the You Tube picture come up here, but this will link you to one of my favorites. Not exactly a Wonderland George
  19. This isn't a pictionary... :) George
  20. The actress is Janet Gunn. Craig Stevens played Peter Gunn in the detective show by that name. Peter Gunn, by the way, had this famous theme song: Peter Gunn You're up, Dreamer. George
  21. "There are two ways to handle defeat. You can lose confidence or you can learn from your mistakes." "That is what troubles me. I made no mistakes." "All right, enough of this!" "Doctor?" "How long are you going to sit sulking like Achilles in his tent?" "I am running diagnostic --" "You might be able to sell others with that story, but not me. You're smarting because you got beat. Well, it happens." "No, Doctor, this is not ego. I am concerned about giving the captain unsound advice." "It's a real mess down here, but we'll get to work on it." "I'm sure you'll perform your usual miracle." "What's the Zakdornian word for 'mismatch'?" "Challenge! We do not whine about the inequities of life. And how you perform in a 'mismatch' is precisely what interests Starfleet. After all -- when one is in the superior position, one is expected to win." "Play a machine? Why should I wish to?" "I don't blame you. It's no fun going into a game when you know you're going to lose." "But I wouldn't lose, and now you're no doubt going to make me prove it to you." "I was hoping that you would agree to play me in a game of Strategema." "Although I am intrigued by the audacity of your request, I can't fathom why you wish the encounter." "I enjoy a challenge." "Very well, an opponent of 'limited dimensions' can often be quite diverting." "I have wagered heavily in the ship's pool that you will take him past the sixth plateau." "What if I don't?" "I will be... irritated." "Despite their reputations, this Zakdorn does not appear to be a very formidable warrior." "In the game of military brinksmanship, individual physical prowess is less important than the perception of a species as a whole. For over nine millennia potential foes have regarded the Zakdorns as having the greatest innately strategic minds in the galaxy." "And no one is willing to test that perception in combat." "Exactly." "Then the reputation means nothing." "When you're out-gunned, out-manned, and out-equipped --what else do you have left?" "Guile." "Join me." George
