  1. Quite by accident, I'm sure; but yes, you won. George
  2. Getting free medical advice is easy. Anyone can give that! It's GOOD medical advice that's the trick! George
  3. You got it. "Mad Men" aired on AMC recently. It was about a Madison Ave. ad firm in 1960. EVERYBODY smokes (ALL THE TIME); EVERYBODY drinks (almost all the time); and sexual harrassment is expected, if not required. In other words, the good, old days. Well-filmed and well-acted. I think the next season begins in the summer. George
  4. Yes, Rocky! Happy Birthday, and many more (at least, until "time shall be no more..."). George
  5. Yes. Inorganic Chemistry, University of Illinois, 1982. George
  6. A clarification on waysider's "no googling" rule: that applies only to those trying to guess the clue. The one posting the clue may google to make sure the lyric is correct. I remember posting a line from "Donna the Prima Donna." I always thought it was "She walks the beaches like Zsa Zsa Gabor." It turns out the line really was "She wants to be just like Zsa Zsa Gabor." :) George
  7. My stepson John had his thesis defense Tuesday afternoon. He's in a combined M.D./Ph.D. program at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston. His mom and I went up to Houston to see the seminar he gave on his research, and I couldn't have been prouder. He's done some excellent work on the use of Gleevec to kill and inhibit a particular type of stomach cancer, and he presented it skillfully. After the open session, he had a closed session with his committee, who, of course, passed him. As soon as all his paperwork clears, he'll be officially a Ph.D. He will continue to work in the same research group as a postdoc until August, when he'll start his last year of med school. He's not only the first Ph.D. from Prof. Trent's group, but he's the first Ph.D. from the UT Sarcoma School! George
  8. The only real rule for picking a song is that it had airplay (as opposed to being an album cut). If no one gets it after one lyric, try some more (though it's obviously unwise to choose a lyric that contains the title). If no one still gets it, you can always give the answer and post another song. Don't be in too much of a hurry, though. Not everyone looks here every day. George P.S. I've posted several lines and given other clues to the latest "Name That TV Show." No one seems to have gotten it yet, although it's a current show that's fairly popular. If you haven't been over there, check it out. I also recommend "Name That Flick," "Name That Star Trek Episode," and "Triple Movie Links." The rules are usually in the first couple of posts. The "Pictionary" threads are fun, too!
  9. Julia Roberts Michael Collins Liam Neeson George
  10. Not the word I was looking for with either clue. Keep trying! George
  11. This is the part that I really love! If I were concerned about nuclear warfare, the LAST place I'd want to be is Israel! George
  12. This one has had one season on cable (so far): two pics George
  13. Death Becomes Her Isabella Rosselini Blue Velvet George
  14. The last two quotes would be the most telling. "Cannon to the right of them, Cannon to the left of them, Cannon in front of them, Volley'd and thunder'd." "Storm'd at with shot and shell, Boldly they rode and well, Into the Jaws of Death, Into the mouth of hell... Rode the six hundred." "How does that poem end, Chief?" "You don't want to know." "You can't do that." "Why not?" "Because! A true victory is to make your enemy see they were wrong to oppose you in the first place; to force them to acknowledge your greatness." "Then you kill them?" "Only if it's necessary." "I had no idea." "Congratulations, Captain! You wanted them angry, they're angry." "I'd like to toss that smug little Vorta out the nearest airlock. And his Founder with him." "Now, now Damar. That's no way to talk about our valued allies. Not until this war is over, anyway." "One ship against an entire fleet... That's a helluva plan B." "The only reason they haven't killed me yet, is that I'm part of their victory celebration. (reciting) 7:00: Dukat makes a speech. 8:30: Cake and raktajino. 8:45: Execute the Ferengi." "We'll go back to Cardassia and be happy." "She loved you, you know." "I never knew why. Now, I guess, I never will." George
  15. William Hurt Broadcast News Holly Hunter George
  16. I pronounce it "leema," not "liema." Thoreau lima dern mill lee. George
  17. If you're not sure how to post pics from the Internet, I wrote some tips on p.22 of the Movie Pictionary thread. I think this link will take you there: Posting tips George
  18. No, I just wanted to know. I don't recognize your clue, though. George
  19. Correct! I figured that a man of the world would recognize Leroy Neiman, renowned artist (most notably for his work in Playboy, especially his "Femlins"). Go, Tom. George
  20. 2nd clue was "lima". "Thoroughly Modern Millie" is correct. George
