    Short people

Short is a realitive term. At 6'1" I'm short for my family. Two out of my three sons tower over me. I never did get as tall as my Dad. But I guess I should say that short people realy don't have any(or shouldn't)rights. Why you say?. Because they design everything so small I don't fit. We love trucks and suburbans because we fit. It is actually painful to try and fit in some Toyotas. Airline seats are nuts. Want to see something funny. My 6'7" son in an airline seat. His knees are at his chin.
  2. If you wanted to fly high it would have been a fun date.
  3. You can buy anything on ebay. I'm going to Boston this weekend to pick up a car I bought on ebay motors. If you happen to have $55,000 they had a tank on it the other day. My wife bought bedpans.
  4. When my leg was operated on last October I got tired of how many times they ask me which leg. I went in to surgury with yes rightin on my left leg and no on my right. Had catarct surgury last week. They did all the right eyes first. Then all the left eyes. It was hard to get "yes" off my forehead. I quess I need to right no on my foot before I go to the hospital again. Don't want anybody cutting on my......... I can think of another place that no will be rightin on. Don't want to loss my little head.

Ok I can see I'll need the stamp for a short barrell. What other ATF rules and taxes will that little honey require.

She is using a clip that holds to mags together. Most people have the tops together and the highs just ofset. She has them reversed. Trust me you cannot insert a mag backwards in an AR.
  7. I remember that as a leader for a movie back in the 70's. I think Marjoe tried to be a movie star. He couldn't act worth a flip.

Ron I only live 75 miles away from Marble Falls. Are yu that close. Personally I think she should learn that while wearing body armer its advisable to shorten the stock on a M-4.
  9. I have been thinking lately ( yes I know this is dangerous) about buying a tractor. I can blame myself because I was promised one and probably would have gotten it if I would have kept visiting Uncle Edwin Striedel. No kids and it was the last of the farming equipment he kept. Call it nostalgia. But I have been looking for one. What I would pay for that old one. I remember riding in a wagon behind it as a kid harvisting feild corn. So if you happen to have an old Farmall Super A please remember me.
  10. In town I would suggest a live trap. Ranchers use to use a snare at fence lines. Find where they go through the fence and put the snare. Does a great job. I believe this was outlawed though. When in town don't use a gun. Bullets kill what ever they hit. I remember deer hunting years ago. Watched a bobcat walk right under the deer blind I was sitting in. It was to beautiful to shoot.

Actually all you need to do is add a compensator. That adds weight at the end of the barrel where its needed and directs the gasses up to reduce muzzle jump.

Generally speaking a .40 has less recoil than a .45 ACP. Thus a quicker return to sight picture. But this is a generalization. A 45 with a light slug will recoil less than a 40 with a heavy slug. The real answer is practice. The next answer is how the weapon fits your hand. This depends on the size of your hand and whether the gun is single stack or double stack. The real question is why you are asking? When your adrenaline goes up due to fear, combat, or whatever your ability to see and aim change. This is where practice comes in. The more you shoot the better you handle it. I am looking at a 9mm for contests. Mainly for the light recoil and the high capacity. When I use to carry, I carried a Sig 380 with an aluminum frame. It was small and light. A 380 is usually considered the smallest caliber for self defense.
  13. This happened around five years ago. My wife teaches nursing at a small university. Every graduation the class selects one person who has helped the students in there year of training. That one year it was the custodian who cleaned the first floor. He was always there encouraging them and brighting their day.

That thing is a rifle that shoots the same cartridge as a 50 caliber machine gun. The cartridge is commonly refered to as a 50BMG (Browning machine gun). If the rifle is not that heavy it would brake your shoulder. Its about as practical as a bulldozer for a commuter car. If I sometimes come across kind of strong its because of two kinds of people. The first kind is the kind who think guns are bad. They are just tools and objects that neither kill or hurt on their own. The second kind of person are the ones who spend $4000 to buy a 50 BMG just to shoot at old cars from a mile away. But what really scares me sometimes is the poeple who show up at a shoot dressed in camaflage and act like they are audioning for commando. Its a contest. It takes skill and agility, and its fun. Thats all.

I had a Texas one and let it expire. The laws are such that if you have one and your weapon is stool-in and used in a crime you are responsible. I also got tired of the extra weight. It was fun for about a week. The only real advantage is when you purchase a new gun. No wait no check just get and go. The best think to do when confronted with danger is run.
  16. Deer corn is sold at the convience store at the end of the street, the grocery store, even Wal-Mart has it. Go to a feed store and buy feed corn. Its like candy to deer. Its actually not the best for them but they love to eat it. You either love deer or hate them because of your car. Me I like a nice big grill guard. HEHE

Music was all wrong. Guns....firearms for the most part are about fun. Some people like tennis, golf, cards, surfing, gardening. Most shooting today is about fun and sports. The fastest growing shooting sport today is cowboy action. That is really more about dress than about guns. But lets talk about shooting sports. I have tried to come up with a list on the different types and the list is tooooo long. Shotguns. Lets see sheet, trap, sporting clays and probably ten more. These are Olympic sports. Bulls eye shooting there are so many classes I don't know where to start. Bulls eye is shooting while being stationary at a target. IPSC, IDPA and several more are different types of pistol competitions. What I enjoy the most is Carbine. Which is shooting one of the above but using a semi auto rifle. Then there are five or so different classes within that. This is my favorite. Shooting for the most part is not about killing. Its about sport. I haven't gotten a hunting license in 4 years. I've shoot over 4000 times in that time frame.
  19. I'm a lover not a fighter. The last fist fight I was in was Nov. 1, 1972. Yes I remember the time also 7:05 am. I broke my right hand on the face of Scott Garanger. Two years ago my church was looking at calling a new pastor. I didn't feel comfortable will the new candidate and had the balls to say so. I had a fellow deacon get right up in my face about it. It took all I had not to repeat Nov. 1st.
  20. If you are taking a 30-06 and shooting the sabot rounds it a classic case of the wrong gun for the job. It has been said that the 30-06 is the most versatile rifle cartridge made. This may be true but the answer is buying the 25-06 which is the .30 cartridge necked down to 25 caliber. The problem with the sabot is consistency/accuracy. The sabot (french for shoe) is a plastic holder that holds a smaller caliber bullet. The idea is that this allows a small weight bullet with a better ballistic density to be fired out of a larger caliber rifle. This has never caught on with the exception of the 30-06. This is mainly due to how many of them are out there. The 270 was the first commercial success with necking the 30-06 down. This happened somewhere in the 1930. The 25-06 was the next step that happened in the late 60's. My personal favorite as I mentioned is the 257 Roberts. I can load them to about 3000 fps with a 120 grn slug. Takes care of all the local game without massive recoil. Local game consists of deer and feral hogs. That brings us to the glazer round. It is good at self defense but is easily surpassed just by using a premium bullet. Plus the glazer round is not accurate. Of course a pistol round is not going to be shot at over 7 yrds(21ft). If you shoot in self defense and the target is beyond that you will have legal issues.
  21. I left Houston 20+ yrs ago. Picture was taken in Mason TX. 100 miles NNW Austin
  22. THis is from about 50 miles from here.
  23. Now we are talking my topic. The limiting factor you mentioned is 200 Yards. I love .223 ammo and guns. A mini 14 will only run $600. The trick is that for 200 yrds you need $400 in optics. A .223 is kind of punny at this range. Realistically you need more of a medium caliber. My favorite is a 257 Roberts. A 243 or 25-06 would also be great. They all offer the velocity you need with enough of a slug for knock down. If you are a great shoot a 22-250 would be great. Forget all the .22lr and 22 magnums. The 17 Remington is hot but at 200 yrds it just isnt enough for a dog size animal. Around here dogs are the danger not coyotes. A bolt action rifle new with optics will cost from $600 to $2000. I buy just cheap ammo. I shoot probably 200 to 500 shoots a month. I buy most of my ammo and many of my guns on gunbroker.com. Right now I am waiting on a cap and ball revolver to come in. O the anticipation. If you are not really wanting to spend a great amount of money check local sporting goods that sell used guns. Pawn shops are great also. If you only want to shoot buy the plain rifles. The beautiful ones with walnut stocks will really set you back. Figure on spending money on optic. A cheap rifle will hit a milk jug at 200 yrds all day long. A cheap scope will not.
  24. I'll take that bet. I'll even bet you a good bird dog.
  25. My experience of arguing with the IRS is $50,000 in penalty and interest. It doesnt mater if you are right or wrong. Its what their computer says.
