  1. 2 time veteran 1st time to Kansas City from Emporia. 2nd time to Flagstaff, AZ from Gunnison. Both times an enlightening look into human nature and how people react under pressure (the people that I was sent with). Produced no class. Signed no one up. Left a very short list of contacts for the local fellowships to follow up on. Story of my whole TWI experience. Doing what I thought was right and my best and getting reamed and judged for it.
  2. No, started in the 12th, spent my interim year at HQ. Went LOA in Montana and graduated 13th.
  3. MT is for Montana where I was born. I also found out the Donnie moved to Sacramento but good luck finding a Smith in California :)-->
  4. Try doing an internet search of the white pages for Kevin Smith in Eugene Oregon. He will be able to tell you where his siblings are. I do know Donnie & Bernie were last in California. They moved there from Oregon in 2003.
  5. I tell them my husband and I both have associates of theology degrees. Every time I've used that line the people say they are glad to see someone taking it so seriously and they leave. See...they do come in handy!
  6. I was in residence my final year (13th Corps) working on the Grounds Crew. I remember trying to finish mowing before the black sky opened up with a down pour that day. I had a "feeling" that something big was going to happen. We were awakened in the middle of the night and I think we were told to go to Anderson Hall(?) in our sweats for an FIT alert. (The person that answered the phone mistook SIT for FIT.) All the way there I kept wondering if it had anything to do with the dark clouds that I'd seen that day. After P. Lynne made the announcement I remember sitting in the middle of the room looking around and wondering why I wasn't upset. I do remember during the time off I tried to catch up on my sleep and letter writing. I remember a night owl with P. Lynne, P. Strauhal and D. Standish. Were they there to teach a class or just called in to help? I don't remember. Anyway, I was ready to move on with life and didn't understand what the big deal was.
  7. If I recall there was a class in rez specifically designed to teach us things our earthly families had been deliquent in teaching us. Things like how to carve a turkey, how to iron a shirt, set the table, pack a suitcase, and manners (in case we ever had dinner with the President -- the US Pres.). There were stories of corps teaching their WOW families manners, going out to dinner and being complimented on having such good manners. This would open the door for them to witness and the stories were used to encourage us to share the knowledge with the uneducated people we met on the field (and remember every unbeliever was uneducated in the proper way to do things). I also remember being on the field with other people watching everything I did just to see how to do it "properly". And I was also being critized (behind my back) for not doing things the way their former "leaders" had done them. I was in during the time when loving someone meant making them change to fit the mold. No wonder my mom thought I was in a cult -- oh that's right -- I was! And now that I'm a mom I understand how smart moms really are.
  8. I remember 3x5 cards as something good. In a couple of situations we were given a card, told to write our name one it then pass it to the person on the right (or left). We each wrote something nice about the person named on the card. By the time your card got back around to you, you had a major "love" note from each person in the group. This was during the late 70's early 80's. When were the negie cards used?
  9. I met him in Montana in 1978. Saw him once in 1980 at ROA, haven't seen him since. Just good to see someone I know mentioned here.
  10. I agree with masterherbalist. Don't go for something designed for the masses. After years of going to MDs and getting only RXs designed to elminiate the sympton and nothing to rebuild the body I decided to take a different path. I tried reading books, determining my problem with all kinds of self tests and finally went to a naturopath. In the past 15 years I have been to 3 different naturopaths. The first one ran her practice just like an MD. Make an appointment, see her for 10 minutes and walk out with medications to take care of the symptom. She never once spent more than 15 minutes with me to find out my history. She was referred to me by a friend. Second one hooked me up to a computer to test me for food allergies. Gave me a 6 page list of things to never eat, things to eat 72 hours apart, things to each 48 hours apart and things I could eat whenever. She never questioned me about my symptoms, history or mental health. She was referred to me by the first naturopath, which could be why she didn't get into my history. She specialized in gastrointestinal problems. Third one I picked out of the yellow pages because she had only a post office box and no big ad. Before she would even consider taking me on as a patient, she sent me a 20 page questionaire that had to be completed within a week and returned to her. She took 1 week to read the questionaire before she called me to set up an appointment. The first appointment was 2 hours long. She took tons of notes, asked lots of questions and asked me what direction I wanted to take with my health (mental and physical) and how long I was willing to take to work on things. If I wanted a quick fix, she could give me things to elminiate the symptoms but she left it up to me to decide whether I wanted to really get myself healthy from the inside out or not. She spends time between visits researching to find just the right thing to help me with my goal of being fit by 50. (I am not as faithful between visits -- I tend to fall away from the plan when I start seeing improvements.) One of the first things I asked her about 3 years ago was going on a cleanse to detox myself. She warned me that doing a detox or cleanse when your immune system is weak is not a good idea. We have been slowly building to the point of a detoxification diet for me in 1 more year. And to be honest, I am not sure I will be ready to see what comes out of my system after all those years of abuse. I applaud you on your courage to come forth here and ask for help but ... I hope you find a solution than just somthing to take care of the surface symptom with a quick fix.
  11. graduated 12th corps helped me keep my sanity at HQ by being a faithful prayer buddy anybody else know him or of his whereabouts?
