Finished the first Arrow episode. I must say I did NOT see that ending coming. I was calling for red skies crossovers around the 6th or 7th episode, in time for the mid-season, and Legends of Tomorrow to start its late season. Then again, it makes perfect sense. I wonder if Psycho Pirate is still in Arkham Asylum. Mrs Wolf speculated that Ollie's putting together another team, one hop at a time, and hopes we get another Snart out of it.

The idea behind the comic was a "deconstruction" of the superhero. They wanted superheroes who were anything BUT "heroic." I gave that a miss from the beginning. I wasn't able to stay awake for the movie, either. You probably know that DC has the modern rights to use the old Charlton heroes, and that Moore was planning on using those until they realized he was going to destroy them all, so he made expies of all of them. Instead of Captain Atom, we had Dr Manhattan. We had Rorschach in for The Question, Nite Owl in for the Blue Beetle, Silk Spectre replaced Nightshade, Ozymandias was in for Peter Cannon/Thunderbolt, and The Comedian replaced The Peacemaker.

Having just sat down to watch the previous season finale, I'm about 25% that will happen, and about 75% that everyone except Felicity is told Ollie took one for the team, and they go into retirement like Earth-2's Superman and Lois Lane at the end of CoIE in the comics. (The nice ending that "Infinite Crisis" later tried to retcon into something bad.)

I know Ben Gazzara's name like I know FMA's name. A role Robert De Niro played that the other's played? Jake La Motta can't have had so many movies about him. How about Frankenstein's Monster?

Steiger was the cop in the movie "In The Heat of the Night." IIRC, he was the Patton-like general in "Mars Attacks!". I knew Robards played Rotzinger. (His best line wasn't even a line- it was the flat look. Young Cop: "What's so memorable about a clown stealing a million dollars?" Rotzinger: *flat look* Young Cop: "Jesus, we gotta catch this guy!")

Ok, I need to sit down and watch "Arrow" soon, and get the Mrs so we can watch "Flash" together. Gotcha.

I heard they regularly showed this one film about Martin Luther at the Advanced class, just as cg showed this Tyndale video at his Advanced class. (Someone got a copy of the tape of the Martin Luther one, so I saw it at someone's home, later, now that I think about it.) How did they "celebrate" Reformation Sunday? Was it "this is Reformation Sunday, this is who Martin Luther was, and here's a film about him" , with a 10 second explanation of Martin Luther, or was there something in addition?

The funny thing about that.... you can take a general subject, talk ABOUT it for HOURS, and never say anything SPECIFIC about it. I'm confident Mr "my degree is in Homiletics" could go on forever on the Reformation without hitting one historical fact. He had the general idea, he had the nailing of the theses, and if he had nothing else, he could expound on that all day. Homespun analogies, anecdotes, editorializing, the list goes on and on.

I know the name F. Murray Abraham. I can picture Rod Steiger and Jason Robards. We're talking an older American, a grizzled "I've seen it all" leader. That's all I've got so far.

I forget the name of his character in "A Knight's Tale." I remember Wash, and I remember Vanderveer Wayne Junior from "Powerless." I think the Mrs and I may have been the only people who liked the show. He also played the Joker in the Harley Quinn animated series (aka, the cartoon.)

Martin Luther was famous for the 95 Theses incident. Martin Luther, disgusted with church/political corruption in the church, isolated 95 specific points where the church official practices and teachings differed sharply from the Bible's content (at least how he saw it, certainly.) He made a list, then posted it at the door of the church- which, at the time, meant he was opening discussion on the topic(s). Wierwille never studied church history (too much work.) So, he had a cursory understanding of the incident at best. When he announced he was going to do something similar, he said they were going to go around to all the church doors, and post the list of verses that said Jesus was the Son of God. Much later, I read about what they actually DID. They went to all the church doors. They posted a sign that said, "Jesus Christ is Not God. Never was and never will be." They dropped off a signed copy of "Jesus Christ is Not God", and they took off. ================================== The Way Magazine, January-February 1978, p. 22. "On October 50, 1977, Victor Paul Wierwille stepped from his luxury coach and strutted proudly to the front door of his former United Church of Christ in New Knoxville. There, in an act representing what he saw as “a potentially greater Reformation” than that begun by Martin Luther, he nailed his “version” of Luther’s 95 theses to its door. It screamed: JESUS CHRIST IS NOT GOD—Never Was and Never Will Be.” Then, “Dr. Wierwille strode back to the custom coach after placing an autographed copy of Jesus Christ Is Not God at the foot of the church door for all to see. As the custom coach pulled away, its foghorn blasted three times to signify the ceremony’s completion.” ============================================ The limit of vpw's understanding of history didn't go beyond posturing and grandstanding. As for the founding of the Protestant Reformation, vpw didn't know much beyond the nailing of the 95 Theses, if he knew anything more. He couldn't celebrate what he didn't know. The only way vpw would have celebrated such an event would have been the way he made other comments, the lazy way. Some twi-er would do the research, then come to him, thinking he'd also done the research. Then vpw would later parrot what they said, and make it sound like he'd done the research himself. With vpw deprecating the study of history (which saved him from having to learn it), few wayfers would have bothered. In fact, it was a selling point of twi that they went back to the 1st century Christian Church and ignored all the history since then, which they derided as religion. Mind you, they wouldn't bring that up if they mentioned George Mueller (Muller), or Tyndale, but otherwise, yes.

That seems a lot more likely than his claims being true and him being fine, especially since he's BEEN spilling the beans.

The thing is, Allan, it's considered bad form on message boards. I know you're here to discuss, not advertise. However, that sort of thing is what advertisers do- they make a VAGUE comment, one that says nothing about the contents of a link, then supply the link in an attempt to get people to click on the link. It's what one ces/stfi guy did on a Christian message board I used to frequent. His only post there (and some other boards) was a comment that he "found" this website and wanted to know what people thought- and linked them to the ces/ stfi website. It was blatantly dishonest, and I called him on it immediately. I replied honestly, with what he COULD have said while not trying to mislead anyone- and I wasn't rude to him, either. It was obvious to the other posters that A) he was advertising, and B) I knew something about it, especially since I sounded as if I knew the guy personally. So, if you're interested in people checking out a link, how about pasting the title of an article, or the subject of an article, so they have some kind of idea of what to expect? You can just type it out if nothing else.

For the benefit of those playing at home who want to know what it said without clicking blindly on a link... This Daily Mail link's headline was "Mobster claims he helped Poison Pope John Paul I with cyanide and threatened to kill Pope John Paul II because they both tried to expose a billion dollar stock fraud scam involving cardinals and gangsters in Vatican City." The links I got for that headline, including the msn link and a direct link for the Daily Mail, were: https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/world/mobster-claims-he-helped-poison-pope-john-paul-i-with-cyanide-and-threatened-to-kill-pope-john-paul-ii-because-they-both-tried-to-expose-a-billion-dollar-stock-fraud-scam-involving-cardinals-and-gangsters-in-vatican-city/ar-AAJ4dhr https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7591789/Mobster-claimed-helped-POISON-Pope-John-Paul-cyanide-stock-fraud-scam.html https://www.heraldsun.com.au/truecrimeaustralia/meet-the-mobster-who-claims-he-helped-whack-pope-john-paul-i-over-stock-fraud/news-story/be68fbd5bff2476b4399a4a2014867f2?nk=db0a493f7ac49f435cb741434597e606-1571628731 The Daily Mail's site included this: Anthony Raimondi, 68, claims he helped kill John Paul I in 1978 because the pope threatened to expose a billion dollar stock fraud scam The scam took place at the Vatican bank, where criminal cardinals and mobsters allegedly sold fake stock certificates to American companies like Coca-Cola Raimondi was recruited by his cousin Paul Marcinkus to help silence the Pope before he exposed the illegal dealings Raimondi reportedly stood watch as his cousin drugged the John Paul's tea with Valium and force fed the sleeping pope cyanide Mobsters and cardinals also threatened to kill John Paul II for the same reason, but let him live after agreeing to keep the scam a secret The revelations are in Raimondi's new book 'When the Bullet Hits the Bone' "A mobster from the Colombo mafia family claims he helped poison Pope John Paul I with cyanide 33 days into his reign to stop the pontiff from exposing a billion dollar stock fraud scam. " " Raimondi dismisses those who question his story or say it closely resembles 'The Godfather III.' 'It was a terrible movie. To tell you the truth I don’t really remember it,' Raimondi told The Post. 'What I said in the book I stand by till the day I die. If they take [the pope’s body] and do any type of testing, they will still find traces of the poison in his system.' " It includes a link to the NY Post. https://nypost.com/2019/10/19/meet-the-mobster-who-claims-he-helped-whack-pope-john-paul-i-over-stock-fraud/ "Meet the mobster who claims he helped whack Pope John Paul I over stock fraud." I see no reason to take this claim seriously at this time. It's true he's making that claim, and it's helping to sell his book. Any death of anyone famous has claims of foul play attached to it. JP I died rather suddenly, and it's easy to find conspiracy theories whenever that happens. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_John_Paul_I_conspiracy_theories

That was around when "Starship Invaders" was out, but that wasn't a comic book, nor did it have Marceau. French dude.... any chance this was some sort of "Barbarella" re-release?

Was there a one-season or less show that looked like an expie of Charlie's Angels, with another guy and a few women, with the main difference that we saw the guy?

TLC's question WAS on topic. Unfortunately for TLC (and, perhaps for us), you're not required to address it, neither in a short nor a long answer. If you used a long answer, you could go a long way into explaining why you think he's incorrect, and possibly get him to change his thinking. If not him, maybe one of the silent readers of the thread (I think there's always a few.) One discussion here once caused me to completely reverse my thinking on a subject even though I almost never participated in it.

No idea yet, but not from lack of trying. It sounds familiar, but nothing comes to mind.
