Since it's a figure of speech, passive voice switched for the active voice (permission stated as action), you should find it in both "Figures of Speech Used in the Bible" and the Companion Bible. IIRC, I've read it in both, but FOSUinB should have it explained while TCB should just mention it like everything else.

At one point, vpw made a big deal about supposedly doing that. He used to say "God set His Word above His Name." Someone showed him the verse didn't say "set". it said "magnified." So, the best example vpw could find- and he announced it- was switching "set" for "magnified". If he couldn't find a real example of himself changing anything if he was caught making an error, I'll take it as a given he never corrected any significant error (just the thing I mentioned.)

If you were a '"member", they would have responsibilities back to you. Since you "weren't a member", they felt free to treat you as DISPOSABLE.

*sighs* No, what he wrote in his blog is straight out of BULLINGER, almost verbatim. vpw isn't the only one who can read Bullinger and spit back what he wrote. At least one page shows a healthy respect for Bullinger, and their explanation about who they are sounds NOTHING like ex-twi. So, Bullinger is verbatim, but twi is not.

GSC is short for GreaseSpot Cafe, where you're reading this right now. It's a messageboard that tells the other sides of the story of the way international (twi) and its spinoffs/"splinters". People come here to learn about those, to socialize with other twi survivors, and so on. Its name comes from lcm's (loy craig martindale) insistence that anyone leaving twi would be overwhelmed by devils upon their exit, becoming a "GREASESPOT BY MIDNIGHT." Well, the survivors came here. Midnight has come and gone. We've gone on with our lives, and lcm was removed from twi. So, the name is "tongue-in-cheek."

I apparently neglected to ask Mrs Wolf if she ever watched the series. Yes, she did, and no, she won't. Good thing we keep finding other shows to watch together.

Yeah, George, I was wondering if it was interesting enough to be watchable with a family without it qualifying as a punishment for anyone. I guess that's a matter of opinion.

vpw went through a LOT of alcohol in the average week, so I would be more surprised if he was SOBER at the time. (BTW, I ran into technical problems when I was posting links last night, so I included a link back to this thread accidentally while working around the problems. I hope nobody cares.)

His other senses worked fine. Since the question was raised, I'd think his insignia would have a slight raising over the shirt. We have designs that are similar. The ring knows what suit to give him, so it defaults to a GL uniform, with the special instruction for him and his people to make it a bell insignia. (Interesting line of thought, I think.)

Anytime you have to hike 2 miles to a rest stop, then phone someone to get a ride because you were kicked off a vehicle on the highway, well, it makes an impression on you. I'm sure the memories of that day are PARTICULARLY vivid.

When I hear that song, I picture Batman running around the dock with the cartoon bomb thing. The show is family-friendly. Is it worth watching?

I thought it was a Jimi Hendrix- specific song. I also didn't know the later parts of the song, just the first verse and the tune. Of course, the correct artist was Jimi OR anyone who actually played the thing, including Billy Roberts since he was a singer and not just a writer (apparently.) The usual standard is for some kind of broadcast SOMEWHERE, but that's for the SONG, not the artist, really, and this song got/gets plenty of airplay. So, Human's turn.

Human should take it.

I saw parts of about 2 episodes, I think. When it was a new show.

If you look over some old threads, we discussed the Holocaust. A few posters consistently insisted the numbers of dead were GREATLY exaggerated (as in, hundreds died or something rather than millions), and the evidence was FAKED. Is it any coincidence that ALL the posters who pulled that were ALL posters who were big boosters of vpw, who always tried to whitewash his image clean of his rapes, druggings, molestations, plagiarism, vices, and so on? vpw was very pro-German, and claimed his German heritage meant his family was very industrious and hard-working. (BTW, vpw was a lazy boy on the farm who ran off into the forest and disappeared for hours rather than do his chores.) He also insinuated he got revelation all the time, and some of what he said when he did came straight from the John Birch Society, which is a conspiracy shop and so on. Those who knew him PERSONALLY could say more, and I'm sure they will. :)

That book was recommended and CARRIED IN THE TWI BOOKSTORE. The claim was that modern Jews were descendants of the Khazars, not the historical Jews. Genetic testing proved the premise was incorrect, because the modern Jews carry genetic markers of historical Jews and lack genetic markers of the Khazars. So, wrong TWICE. Also, can't call them "Jews" in twi, have to call them "Judeans." Not sure why.

""Leadership" treated me badly. " - about 1/2 the people who left, if not more. Welcome. Over the decades, the GSC has been host to lots of twi survivors, some of whom post to this day. There's all kinds of personal stories, but common themes creep up- like abuse by so-called leadership. "It’s an organization run by pompous, arrogant, narcissistic, power freaks who, in their eyes, can do no wrong. 2 Peter 2 describes them well. "- It's obvious in hindsight, but twi was designed that way. vpw wanted all the money and control for himself, so he made his own group, and plagiarized the heck out of other Christians and claimed he got almost all of it by special revelation so twi was special, and he was special- est of the special. He treated people as disposable resources, and had no problem cultivating a public image of a nice guy while being a sociopath behind the scenes. vpw cultivated all those petty traits in himself and others. He also had no real leadership training. He had no training in leadership, and he didn't seek any when starting his "Way Corps" program. So, he never weeded out any pettiness. He didn't do quality control, either- if you could raise the money, you could go through the program. So, twi's leadership roles had a lot of those, who filled it up. When corruption came out, all the REAL leaders walked off when nothing could be done to fix twi- which left the corrupt "leaders."

Amazing you stayed that long, even WITH a spouse. Sometimes twi leaned on a spouse to divorce a spouse who was having doubts.

*slaps forehead* "La Familia Ingalls", as the show is known here (it's in syndication on a local channel, IIRC.) As it was named originally, "Little House on the Prairie."

Yes. I wasn't sure you were that big a trivia fan. One of the "Green Lanterns" wore a bell insignia. His people have no concept of LIGHT, let alone color, so they don't have a concept analogous to a "lantern" "light" or "green." So, their Green Lantern is "The F-Sharp Bell". Alan Scott was in one script. The adlibbed line was about how he hid his cheekbones with the mask and expected her not to recognize him. (I once wore a Halloween costume that covered me completely, and fooled several people into thinking I was someone else. One other person looked me over for a moment, then greeted me by name. "How did you know it was me????" "From how you stand." So, yeah, a domino mask may not cut it.
