  1. Thanks for all your kind words.
  2. As beautiful and charming as the place is it has a high vandalism and theft rate. Everyone I have talked to up there has had something vandalized or stolen from them. Mostly by young punks as there is nothing for them to do except get drunk and get into trouble. I am "From Away" so that puts me on the top of the list. I have been warned many times by many people not to have a camp there. My place is only 3 miles from a Mountie Barracks and relatives live only one mile away. Not going up till next week, Insurance Co. wants time to investigate before talking to me.
  3. I had it way under insured but my agent suggested I increase it because of all the new fixtures. Sure glad I took his advise but it is still not enough to cover the replacement. My body finds it extreemly difficult to make the trip nowdays so I guess it may be for the best. It won't be replaced but I will never sell the land as it was in my wife's family since 1850.
  4. Got a call last night from the Canadian Mounties that someone burned my camp down up in Prince Edward Island. Last year at this time it was trashed with $4500. damage to it. It's and old 30 foot trailer but everything inside had been replaced and was like new, furnace, water heater, refrigerator, stove and a 5000 watt generator all replaced in the last year. I have a picture of the land and camp in the Brrrr thread, last page (every picture tells a story section). Wednesday my wife and I are heading up there and I will post a few pictures. Luckily I doubled my insurance last month on it.
  5. Did you notice Kerry had one sip of water and GWB drank 3 glasses?
  6. Convinced me to vote "GREEN" again.
  7. I made an offer to a high school student a while ago to help me move some furniture and I would pay him $10.00 per hour. He wanted to know how many hours so I said only about 2 hours but I would pay him $20.00 if it only took one hour. He didn't think it was worth it to work more than an hour if he could get the full amout for only half the time. I got another to do it and paid him $20.00 for 1 1/2 hours, he was very grateful for the money.
  8. First took it in 1977 on reel to reel tape, very poor quality sound. Second time was WOW year 1979. Never took it again, although I sat in on a few sessions. I guess I was one of the lucky ones.

    Careers Poll

mstar1 I think we do the same job. Your description is exactly the same as mine would be.
  10. Wacky I am going to a jewelers supply tomorrow. I can get you anything you need, just let me know.
  11. It's called "Sparex #2 Pickle" I will bring you some. You must use copper tongs with it or your sterling will turn black. It also must be heated in a small crock pot ($10.00 at WalMart) to work properly. Did you use boric acid as a fire coat? What type of flux did you use?
  12. http://www.mofga.org/fb01.html A good place to gather. WackyFunster and I will be there on Saturday, Sept. 25. I know there are a number of GS'ers from Maine so why not meet and have some Onion Rings?
  13. I also believe Jim Doop was VPW's first pick at one time. ??

I know what you mean, I use to live up the road in York, ME 30 years ago. I was going to buy a house on the York River back then for $29k but thought it was too much money. It was recently sold for $400k.

I call my brother-in-law "Deputy Dawg" and sometimes "Barny". lol No offense taken, I am not like that, I do my share of making fun of some places in Maine also. After all, I live in the smelliest town in New England.Near "Dumpford" where the air smells like cabbage from the paper mill here. Fortunately I live up-wind and very seldom smell it.

My brother-in-law is a deputy sheriff in the Corinna area and his gun is always loaded. It's a nice area to live in but because of a large influx of "Yuppies From Away", land prices have been climbing and that trend is happening all over central Maine. Prices have increased 30% in the last 6 months because of the "Exodus" from the flatlands.
