  1. Lifted can take my turn.

Sounds like you're busy. That's okay; I'm sure someone else will be around (George at least) to take a shot at this one.

When it comes to trying to maintain a family-friendly atmosphere, we are outgunned, outnumbered and out of our minds if we think they’re not going to be bombarded with words and images of sex.

  2. When those three 8th corps wrote a research paper in 1978 contrary to wierwille's "research".......the hornet's nest was stirred and the true colors of wierwille-control SURFACED on a larger scale than the days of H3fn3r and D00p.

Is there a way to know more about that paper? just from a curious former 8th corps.

  3. At the time I got that 1966 package, the general admission price...which included a very big percentage of the available seats...were still a buck and a half.

I don't remember what my dad paid when he took me to see the Dodgers in the Coliseum in the '50s, and the Angels at Wrigley Field in LA in 1961. I remember well the cheap Disneyland prices, but that is :offtopic: .

  4. To post one's 'story' is pretty deep imo.

Cause one would need to dig deep to bring it out..

    No argument there.

It goes back to the trust we were discussing earlier.

Even if it is what I need, I certainly can't expect someone to share their personal details with me, or especially on the web to everyone.

I couldn't ask Kristen to give her account as she did, but I'm glad she did.

I can't expect more of her or anyone than what they are willing to give,

for as you would surely say in some words or others, it ain't easy.

  5. P.S. I remember this franchise eons ago, as the Washington Senators, having the highest ticket prices in the AL. That isn't the case now, is it?

Actually, they weren't that bad till the end of the '60s. I git a pretty good deal in '66 when I got a ten ticket package plus the presidential opener, won by the Indians 5-2 with 4 in the 9th, after Frank Howard had hit one of those low liners over the fence to give the Senators a 2-1 lead.

And LBJ didn't make that game; HHH threw out the first ball. LBJ wasn't at the White House ellipse either when my HS choir sang there at the Pageant of Peace.

  6. (but I still think your boys will win)

    No kidding.

Well, at least my guys don't have to play someone we already smashed in the Rose Bowl.

remember, we're the ones that beat the Jayhawks and LCM in the 1969 Orange Bowl.

  7. Im sure both Theo and Daniels would like to come home from those meetings with something to look like Santa Claus to the hometown fans

lessee....what would be a good gift for the fans??? Cutting ticket prices??? :)

P.S. I remember this franchise eons ago, as the Washington Senators, having the highest ticket prices in the AL. That isn't the case now, is it?

  8. Yes, Lifted, you were the one I was referring to, but I didn't want to name you, in case you'd rather not engage in this discussion.

And yes, I really am interested in what John thinks about what I asked him. That's why I asked. :biglaugh:

Thank you for the courtesy, Linda. However much or little I engage in this, I don't mind being mentioned.

Have you posted your story here? I'd be interested in reading it.

There is that phrase again, more or less. And, as with Linda, I feel sure that John is interested in cman's opinion. If I posted the reason that phrase seems to stick with me though, I would be going :offtopic: and besides courtesy, I have no personal desire to derail this topic.

  9. Exit counseling doesn't involve detaining someone, but it is a confrontational process of attempting to talk someone into leaving through an "intervention." Generally, the intervention is arranged for by concerned family members. In 2 to 3 days of day-long sessions, the group member is presented with information about fraudulent material about the group, the techniques of mind control used by their group, and the testimony of other former members.

Sounds a lot like my deprogramming, except for the first six words, and the fact that you do not describe how the information is presented.

My question right now is, is it really both a confrontational process and one that doesn't involve detaining someone? I mean, by that someone has to agree to be confronted before the confrontation. If someone has to be detained even for a hopefully short time until they agree to "discuss" things, then that still involves detaining someone.

  10. I'll be fair and tell you up front that I don't think those methods are healthy or based on good, solid, scientific evidence. I know there's at least one GSC member who was deprogrammed who would agree. I think counselling provided after someone has made up his or her mind to leave a controlling religious group can be a wonderful thing. I'm very much not convinced, though, that people should be dragged out against their will (of course I'm talking adults here).

I'd be interested to hear what you think.

Are you assuming too much, Linda?

    NOT!

Unless you are referring to someone else; then add me. :)

I think it adds in to what I just posted a little while ago on this thread. Because I had so much stuff jammed down my throat, I have had a strong reluctance over the years to accept some of the bad. Changing my thinking involves a trust I have to give that I am not sure many understand. It makes it even harder when I don't seem to get the trust, even though I myself can picture understandable reasons for not being given the trust.

Whether or not you were referring to me, there is a trust issue I have with your ending line, as stated to me almost word for word by someone else. Sometimes I wonder how much people are interested when they say they are. Not that I am doubting your interest in what John thinks; on the contrary, I believe it is there. Anyway, that was actually the first flag that drew me to your post (Nobody knows how my mind works!)

And you did restore something in my mind with your post, though that would take too much explaining and wouldn't be appropriate here.

  11. I see the possibitlity or friendships with a lot of folks here. But I guess that after being damaged by a ministry that was apparently started by a predatory sociopath that I can understand why simple things might seem harder than necessary. And many of us carry the same mannerisms that for others are a reminder of hurtfull TWI leadership.

In general, I believe trust needs to be earned, and for the damaged that is something that is not earned easily.

    JEFF

(Sigh) I suppose this is a pretty good general statement. Trust can't be demanded, but it is still important and works both ways. It takes trust to talk to others about what happened to you; it takes trust to change your way of thinking as I am guessing many others here have found out. If people got burned in TWI from the assumption of "VPW (or someone else) said it; it must be true", people are going to be wary in the after TWI world as well.

Yea, I agree that trust need to be earned, but I wonder if in some cases it just can't be done.

  12. I see your name is listed at the bottom of the front page here as having a birthday today.... and that you are turning 4 years old. All I can say is that you are very mature for your age! :biglaugh:

yea, going the opposite way as some whom I have seen listed as a century or older!

But I won't expound on those thoughts because I don't wanna get into to much trouble!

    Happy Birthday!

  13. Hi Lifted and GARDEN"S __ I changed it to Washn'wear lifted---had trouble with a password one time --long story-- anyhow Thankyou-- its the big 50.

Somehow I guess I should have known that! The name change I mean. I'm not saying a thing about the age, considering where i am.

  14. And honestly, as I said in, I think, my first post on this thread, people do a lot more TV- and movie-watching than reading, so there won't be as much activity here as on other threads.

Yea, GS has its own traits. like, and I'm glad of it, baseball is so big here; just sometimes curious why football usually lies aside, even in its season, while at work and at The Y the football talk is always flying thick.
