songs remembered from just one line
GeorgeStGeorge replied to bulwinkl's topic in Movies, Music, Books, Art
I believe we're teetering on the verge of politics, but to set the record straight: The "potato" thing was bout correcting someone's spelling of the plural of potato. One was Quayle; the other, I think, was someone in middle school. One said potatoes, the other said potatos. The former was correct. The Jack Kennedy thing was during the Vice-Presidential debate with Lloyd Bentsen in 1988. Dukakis-Bentsen lost to Bush-Quayle by a whopping 420-111 electoral votes. George -
You're up, anyway. George

It was actually Bobby Darin, if that helps. George

songs remembered from just one line
Human without the bean replied to bulwinkl's topic in Movies, Music, Books, Art
That's why I think George Bush wasn't re-elected because Dan Quayle couldn't spell potato, and because opened his mouth and inserted his foot when he compared himself to John F Kennedy. Election was over at that point. Losing the election -
Three movies or Three actors

My math mistake. -
I'm not sure (if I can speak for everybody?) whether or not you're going to get many bites with this George. The only artist I can think who might have done a song like this is ~Ray Stevens~. I don't think I've heard it either or I would probably would have remembered some of those lyrics.

AI got saved!? Shout out to everyone who has ever been in a dungeon with Jeremiah or in a lion's den with Daniel. He got sucked into American-ness calling a class on Christianity Power for Abundant Living. Layers there to be peeled back to discover it's still very good news.

AI does a decent job explaining it for the believer: What is the heavenly prize? Answer from AI: When we reach the end of our own race, our ultimate prize is Jesus. We'll have new citizenship in heaven with Him, we'll exchange our mortal bodies for bodies like His, and we'll spend the rest of eternity in His presence. Until that day, let's remove anything that hinders us from following Him.

Enjoyment is an American standard, I'm sure other cultures, too. I often look around and see others seemingly enjoying themselves far more than me. But, you and me, we were taught the word. I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Phil 3:14 Or, were we? Seems we were taught some elements of the prosperity gospel. Being refined often isn't fun. The chastening of the Lord often isn't fun. Dying daily isn't fun. Pruning isn't fun. If we're going to live our best lives they'll demonstrate some of the above. I suppose it isn't until the final tally, when this life is done, only then will we know how well we lived these lives. I'm living to draw closer to God and to serve him. I've missed out on many common pleasures of this life. That's just the Bible for any who may still believe it.

Now every mornin', just about dawnin' When the sun began to shine She would rouse up, wake all of them cows up And walk them down to her daddy's mine Took the foot bridge, way 'cross the water Though she weighed 299 The old bridge trembled and disassembled Whoops, dumped her into the foamy brine It cracked like thunder, she went under Blowin' bubbles down the line I'm no swimmer, but were she slimmer

Sadly, there is quite a lengthy list of posters who will never post here or anywhere else again. Missed, but not forgotten. Life can be rather cruel at times. Enjoy life while you still can and celebrate each new day.

In some weird way this almost seems kind. Almost like tender... I'm going to guess the majority don't exit with a lot of fanfare. They just stop posting, stop checking the board. That's my guess. I don't feel any need to make a grand declaration. We don't shoot the breeze on GSC. OK, what do we do? I suppose I'll be making that observation and fade when I fade. All love. I neither want nor need special attention. Political shift going on. Theological aspects too. You can probably find me on X calling Pastor Greg Locke a cuck and a redneck, complaining to Cindy Jacobs to leave the Muslims alone. I'm not planning to leave the Internet or the natural world.

You got me on this one. No idea.

Uncle Harry wasn't really my uncle. Mum's the word.

Anyway. Let us know what you decide.

It doesn’t bother me if you stay. This forum is open to anyone, but some have an easier time than others. It’s rare to see someone refer to victor as “Dr.” I must admit, the dishonesty is refreshing.

Thank you, Oldiesman. Not sure what you all do here if there's such a focus on staying on topic. Idk, maybe somebody new shows up here freshly processing their experiences. They work through it and another one shows up freshly processing their experiences? Then, another and another...? Almost like some kind of rescue mission, or whatever? I just don't know what's in bounds and out of bounds in this community. I've been involved with a bunch of ministries. I'm interested in furthering my walk with the Lord, not so much looking back. It was fun to reminisce. As I've said, I wasn't burned as badly as some. I did have a surprise pleasant meeting traveling through New Knoxville. Message me if you're on Facebook or X or even to swap numbers
