There's no exception from punishment that I know of in the RC church, except possible cases of martyrdom. From what I've heard, the RC Church teaches most all (all without exception) go to purgatory, or hell itself. It's apparently very rare that someone directly goes to heaven and be with Jesus immediately after death, even when they confess all their sins and be absolved from the priest. So, pray to Jesus for mercy, and ask to be with Him forever; but you still must go through the cleansing process Jesus set up for you to enter the pearly gates. Don't ask me how, or where it is in the scriptures because I don't know. I'm still struggling with this.

I don't think I can answer your questions. My general point is, sin doesn't stop Christ from working and being there for you. The rape 30 minutes before doesn't stop Christ from doing his work. In the Roman Catholic faith, they believe his presence is completely substantial (in every form) regardless of the sins of the priest.

I believe Christ works and is willing to work regardless of the sinful or non-sinful state another man may be in. One example that was conveyed to me is through the Roman Catholic Mass. The example given to me was pretty crude. A priest is having a sodomitic session with an altar boy. Half hour later, they're serving in the Mass. Does Christ not appear because of that sodomitical act? NO, He is there. Why? Because he loves YOU. You came to that mass because you want to worship Him, and so, he is going to be there for YOU. The takeaway is: Christ works when we have Faith in Him; and it isn't sin that ties his hands, it's the lack of Faith.

Thank you for that link. I'll go back and read the entire thread on 'idiom of permission'. Worth noting that when TWI taught "God is light and in him is no darkness at all" I took that to mean all (without exception) whatever it is, comes from Satan and never God, without considering the possibility that sometimes evil comes from God for His purposes. Example: A friend recently said to me that the sickness he had came from God, and I told him 'no, Jesus is the Healer, sickness does not come from him.' But now I'm thinking there may be a deeper truth working that I need to know about!

At this time I'm quite the opposite. What I'd like to know is the "original" and how it differs from VPW. For instance, how B.G. Leonard differs from VPW. Because we know VPW got that "stuff" from B.G., but there are differences and I find them interesting.

Because he only can be present in one place at a time (when he was here physically) but now, ahh, he can potentially be in millions of places at the same time. a.k.a. the great mystery "Christ in You, the Hope of Glory."

That's the paradox... why God and Jesus protects and saves in some cases, heals in some cases, and in other cases, does not? I think there's so much we don't know but I believe some day we will! I think some of the questions may be answered in Hebrews 11 -- Douay-Rheims Bible, Hebrews Chapter 11 (drbo.org) I noticed too that in Hebrews 11 Christ is referred to as being 'invisible'. Ah ha, we found another synonym for 'absent'.

I think this is important to understand from the Catholic perspective as well. Practicing Catholics believe Christ is here, physically, in the Holy Eucharist. Only a different physical form, different substance than flesh and blood. It's a mystery to me. I don't understand it, but I accept it as possible. I don't understand the Trinity, but now accept it as possible. It's also interesting to me that folks who are awaiting "Christ's return" don't have to wait any longer; he's back! Of course, from the Catholic perspective.

Mike I haven't read through PFAL in years, and learned a few things since then. Still cling to some of that "stuff" though that VPW was teaching. Mike, have you reached out to the B.G. Leonard ministries? They are still around; still get flyers from them from time to time. I mention this because, part of the joy we receive is from sincere godly service. Perhaps you may want to check them out. It does appear they teach much of the same good "stuff" that we got in twi, but without the heavy negative baggage.

Here's another thought. God is the Word. Jesus is the Word in the flesh. The Bible is the Word in writing. But wasn't VPW really talking about "action" and not mere form or existence? The thing that makes Christianity meaningful is Christ's amazing action on earth, and what we may do to imitate his great works of perseverence and gritty resolve. Hence, a possible definitive thought that agrees with the Book of Acts (action) is this: "The [preached] Word takes the place of the [physically] absent Christ"

I began listening to Craig's talk on 9-3-22 Discerning of Spirits. It's long-- haven't finished yet. He talks about Jesus learning about the spiritual realm and how devil spirits operate from the wild beasts in the desert during his 40 days/nights of temptations. I don't remember ever hearing anything about this--- does anyone remember this from twi? -
I think the way I understood the 'absent Christ' quip was: Christ is not here physically. I didn't see him physically nor ever saw him physically, has anyone seen physically? I vaguely recall in one of those old threads of Greasespot, that someone posted that twi used to refer to "absent" as "unseen". He hasn't been seen physically, with the eyes, since the first century. Another usage: I believe twi was conveying that you and me (when we are preaching the Word) takes the place of the "unseen" Christ. We are ambassadors for Christ. He cannot be here physically. If he were here physically he wouldn't need an ambassador. At least that's they way I understood it in twi so I didn't have a problem with the statement.

When I read Raf's comment, I didn't think he was mean or arrogant at all but rather loving, explaining that its truly possible to logically, thoroughly and thoughtfully change over time. It is quite intriguing to me and I would love to hear his story and how it all came about!

Good topic! Perhaps the biggest difference for me is the lack of confidence in "the gathering together" as taught in twi. My involvement with a preterist church on Long Island the last few years got me thinking that Christ came back in 70A.D. already, Nero is 666, and so forth; and when we die, we immediately go to our judgment, then proceed to heaven, hell, or purgatory. (catholic faith). Also, no more "law of believing" the way twi taught it. No more 'fear brings results' like twi taught it, and waiting to be a greasepot. -
