How Many People Accepted or Knew About the Sex Stuff?
waysider replied to JavaJane's topic in About The Way
Here's something to think about. How many times did you notice something that looked suspicious but convinced yourself you were out of fellowship for thinking evil of your brothers and sisters? Just gotta renew the old carnal mind, ya know? So then you come here and realize that when you saw the limb leader's "cleaning lady" leaving at the crack of dawn, it wasn't an unrenewed mind that was waving the red flags. Just makes you want to do this: And follow it up with one of these: -

There is nothing to forgive. You haven't done anything wrong. I just go into too much detail sometimes because I know that not everyone reading understands all the little details. I don't mind you joking about it. -

Adding a bit of background might help explain this to someone who wasn't exposed to Way doctrine. In The Way, it was taught that when you achieved a greater level of spiritual maturity, you would understand that, whenever the Bible talks about adultery and whoredom, it's (supposedly) talking about "spiritual" adultery and whoredom. (ie: worshiping false Gods) This is why the trinity was such a big deal. It was considered "spiritual adultery" to believe in the trinity. The idea here is that any given scripture can have multiple layers of meaning. When you are new in The Word, it's taught that you understand a scripture from a carnal point of view. As you mature, it's supposed to take on a deeper, more spiritual meaning. (milk for babes/ meat for the fully grown) So, to take scripture at face value was something like confessing to being spiritually immature. Not something you would be anxious to do. edit: this stuff is so twisted and convoluted, it's no wonder it takes so long for some people to flush it down the crapper. -

I was thinking the same thing. The irony is part of what makes it so startling. -
It takes more than one voice to sing in harmony.

And when you think of it that way, it's no longer important whether the Bible or Christianity or Islam or any other belief system is based on myth because the myths may be based on an effort to explain/understand something that is real.

I get what you're saying. That's how I feel when I see the sheer beauty and brutality of nature and the utter complexity of various life forms. It feels much too big and interwoven to simply write off as a random unfolding. When you witness a baby being born or sit with someone as they breath their last breath, it's like some kind of message that transcends verbal expression. I think all religions, in general, are man's various ways of trying to assign some tangible meaning to whatever that message may be.

I don't think sexual predators seek out the "drop dead gorgeous". They hone their sights in on people that they perceive to be vulnerable.
