  1. I think there are probably less people who graduated from the fellow laborers program (for all the years combined) than for one single big year of the corps.Still, it was made very clear to us that the purpose of our 9-5 jobs was to witness and promote PLAF.It didn't matter if you had a degree in accounting or chemistry, if a job in the local factory came open, you were expected to take that job. Why? because it would be more conducive to "Moving The Word". selling PLAF.I really get a chuckle out of people who insist there was never any mind/thought/behavior control.Kinda reminds me of that old song, What's That You Say, I've Got Beans in My Ears(?/.)
  2. Not sure about that but I wouldn't mind having a "Goat" with 3 deuces and a 4 speed and a 389.(Ronnie and The Daytonas)
  3. Man, I've heard of somebody "cutting you a new one" but that just takes the cake. What's just as bad is that the woman with the incontinence is probably scrambling around to find her new crutches just to make it to the loo in time.

  5. So then, God gives extra points for cult participation? Wouldn't that make Him a respecter of persons? You see, Oldies, your line of reasoning is not too different from the old question, "Do you still beat your wife?" The guy was a huckster. He had some pretty cool classic cars, too. JP gave me a spin around the block in that red '67 Catalina. Mighty fine ride. Me thinks there are some who are still under the spell of the old Veepster.
  6. I'm not sure I understand your point. Are you saying that a Christian can't have eternal life or rewards at the Bema without a Corps experience on their resume? The dude was a con-man. (Though I must admit, he had some mighty byotchin' bikes in that stable of his!) I helped pay for at least one of them.(An Indian)
  7. And The Lord said, "Let there be Cold Blood"
  8. Bride(and others) Jeff uses the computer at the public library. I'm not sure you can use the PM function in that situation.
  9. Hi, Jeff Nice to see you. I edited at the same time you were posting. I hope my edit clarifies my statement.
  10. (Comparing physical restraint with psychological and emotional restraint.)Of course, if one were to lack an understanding of how cults are able to retain devotees, despite apparent flaws in the logic of their doctrines, one might also have a difficult time understanding this as well

  16. Chas. I looked at it very briefly. It really does look quite inviting. I'll have to check it out when I have a bit more time. Thanks waysider
  17. (Excerpted from the ancient fellow laborer history vaults.) waysider Bio Why I'm a F.L.: I'm stuck in the middle of Podunk, USA with a beater car that has bald tires and an empty gas tank. I've got five bucks to my name---no phone---no money for the pay phone. No prospects for employment back home even if I hitch a ride back. I left home as a leader and look forward to returning as a failure in the eyes of my friends and family. But, heck fire, the Debuhl will probably kill me before I get there anyhow. Favorite scripture: All things are temporary. Favorite music style: The stuff I used to write before they sucked the creativity out of my soul and replaced it with stuff that was "Right On". Coolest part of being here:(See favorite scripture) Well, he!!----- At least there's an unlimited supply of familia. (As long as I pay my weekly "Manna" fee.)
  18. When I was about 4 or 5 years old, I was walking through the A&P(Super Market) with my parents and my two sisters. My younger sister was seated in the shopping cart. Suddenly, she went limp and fell into a state of unconsciousness. Then, she went into convulsions. It happened very, very quickly. We rushed out to the car and drove to the nearest hospital which was probably about two miles away. Long story made short, she had encephalitis which was likely caused by a mosquito bite. (Encephalitis is really a generic term which means "a swelling/infection of the brain".) There was a city wide outbreak of it that year. If I understand correctly, it runs in about 20 year cycles. The Howard incident was about 20 years later. At the time, we lived about two hours away from HA's incident. A couple years ago, we also had an outbreak near my current residence.(again, approximately within a 20 year time frame.) That young man, unfortunately, expired. So, I am inclined to think that there is a great likelihood that Howard developed encephalitis due to a mosquito bite.(or tick bite) I guess there is no way to know for certain but that's my take on it.
  19. Well, I don't know much about Simpson and Lachey. But, I do know that one of the basic premises taught in Sociology, is that monogamy has been a cherished quality in cultures throughout the history of mankind.
  20. I was in TWI at the time this reportedly happened. I have no insider info. to share on it. As I recall, we were told that they were hunting in Pennsylvania when Howard became ill. (Of course, we know now that their activities in PA were not all of the outdoor variety.) I don't remember if there was ever an announcement stating the nature of his illness. At the time, I think people in the twigs speculated it might be Lyme Disease because you acquire that from being bitten by a deer tick that is carrying it, or that it may have been encephalitis from a mosquito. That's all I know about it.
  21. Welcome to GSC!!
