Have you guys seen this show??? It's a hoot! The premise is that some dude from VH1 (whose name escapes me now) tracks down former members of famous rock bands from the '80's and reunites them for a one night only concert. Last weeks was Dramarama...they all had ''normal'' jobs-one guy was in Wayne, NJ driving a front end loader for a living, the rest still live in LA. The band started out in Wayne, btw. Quite a reminder of how fame can fade and how fast all those millions could vanish. Kinda cool to see the bands I use to listen to as a teenager could still jam 20 years after the breakup. Raf and all... During Aileen Wuornos reign of terror, we lived in Ocala, Fl. I remember the Ocala Star Banner headlines announcing another man dead from the serial killer on SR 40, by the truck stops. Charlize Theron makes an amazing transformation to ''Lee'' Wuornos, it's creepy, she looks so much like her. Zix... I won't pay my 7 bucks to see Cold Mountain. Supposedly it takes place here in Appalachia during the Civil War, but the ''powers that be'' ie: the producers felt that it would be cheaper to film in Romania or Poland (somewhere over there) than it would be to put the hundreds upon hundreds of deserving mountain folk to work. True Story A woman in a very small East Tennessee town left her abusive husband with her two little boys in tow. It was right before Christmas. She waitressed and worked another job to make ends meet. As the holidays approached, she knew she would have very little to buy presents and Christmas dinner for her sons. She worked long, hard hours, but it all went to repair her old car, pay her rent or utilities, pay the babysitter and what little that was left bought a meager portion of groceries. As she dragged herself into the diner for her shift, she noticed how beautiful the christmas lights shone in the windows and daydreamed a bit of a warm, cozy, festive Christmas with the boys. It was an ordinary night, the regulars after work for coffee, the cop coming in to get warm, teenagers coming in for dessert after a movie. Bussing one of the tables, she finds an envelope left there. Looking around to see who might have left it, she notices it says ''open me''. Inside was a gift certificate for one hundred dollars at the local Food Lion, a gift certificate for three hundred dollars at the WalMart, and lastly, a gift certificate to a salon for her to use herself. Overwhelmed, she sinks down into the booth and begins to sob. Her boys will have Christmas after all. Pay it forward, indeed. Giving...it IS the true spirit of the season. I was a the Foothills Mall yesterday with my kids and hubby. In the center of the mall there were trees set up with all these requests from needy kids in our community. With 5 kids, Christmas has never been overly abundant in my house, but we manage to get them one big gift to share and then a few individual ones for themselves. (Last year's was a trampoline) I was absolutely floored by some of these kids requests...I was tearing up...a few examples: A warm winter coat Underwear Socks and shoes Pajamas A video tape A new dress Sneakers Glasses (! ) Amazing...I took two...a girl and a boy. I plan on getting what they asked for and more. The holidays have always been a happy time for me and my family, I think we may start a tradition of giving to kids who don't always have a happy holiday. Ttessa...thank you so much for remembering our precious veterans. (How ya doin' kid??? ;)--> ) My Dad would have been 59 this January. He served in the US Navy during Viet Nam, and then enlisted in the Army National Guard in '78. He recieved his 20 year letter the day he died, Dec. 15, 1997. I miss him very much. :(--> My nephew, who will be 22 on November 18th, just got home, he's on American soil now! :)--> He is a jet fighter mechanic in the US Airforce. He worked on our fighter jets who were fighting in Iraq. I saw him last night. It had been over a year since I'd seen his beautiful face, boy am I glad he's home! God bless and keep all our veterans!
