ckm, no offense intended, but "knowledge of the word" is what got everybody in trouble to start with. "Knowledge of the word"without a relationship with Jesus causes no end of pain and heartache. I think that's why we witnessed the train wreck of the way, inc.

The Official, the Ultimate, the Amazing PFAL Thread

I was always under the (mistaken) impression that as more "research" was done on certain topics, that the teaching could be tweaked some. As I stated before, I was young and naive. And the teaching on some subjects did change over time. A great examle is Eph. 6 and how the imagery changed from a soldier to an athlete. If the original PFAL was considered "God breathed" even by VPW himself, how and why could he have changed it over time? VP also would ask certain people to look into certain subjects and then he would evaluate the results. Of couse, as long as PFAL wasn't directly challenged, every thing was hunky dory. Mike, why is it so important to you that PFAL be "God breathed?" And that VPW himself considered it to be "God breathed?" -

yeah, socks, and the precedent was set in the first century. Plenty of people died for their faith. Just makes me think what my problem is when the Lord opens a door and I'm too much of a weeny to say anything cause I'm scared of what others might think. Nobody is gonna stone me, probably, so what am I afraid of? Ya know? -
Thank you, Roy You risked yourself to post here and say what you did. I read it. I appreciate your concern for all of us here. You did what you think is good and neccessary. Thanks for that. I hear what you have to say. Your job is done. Love in Christ, exc10

I know dooj, I am a kinesetic learner who can't even begin to read these long posts. Heck, that's why I was an art major in college. I can't stand the reading/analytical thingy. God bless those who can do it. -
and we will totally ignore the fact that i'm like a foot taller than you and everbody will think you are one of my kids. We will just ignore all those people who look at us funny and say "yeah, we are friends." Amen.

Mike You are acutally being nice to me. ok, i took you off ignore. But you know, there is no way in this lifetime we are gonna agree on anything pertaining to pfal. I am a oh geeeze, i forget what you call it. OLG? who copped out in your eyes. So don't ask me stuff, or try to engage me in any way. If you want to come over for dinner, fine, I would probably wait on you and fuss over you and make you feel totally welcome. I'd even fix your favorite meal, if you asked me too. But I am NEVER going to agree with you on anything regarding PFAL. If you want to pick my brain, you better do better, dear. I know better than to reveal stuff to you, and have you use it against me. Capiche? -
bagpipes, My experience in most churches has been that there are no hoops to jump through to attend a teaching event. You just register and show up, and everbody is glad you're there. Nobody cares how many other classes you've attended, or not. Your spirituality, or worthiness to be there, is not dependent on anything except you are there. And nobody cares much how you dress, either. Or whose meetings you've attended, or not, before you got there. Yeah, it's weird.

Being kept under the thumb of a "believing" spouse
ex10 replied to ChasUFarley's topic in About The Way
hey, oldies, that is an excellent article. Thanks for the link. -
Yes, exactly sunesis. I know, in my life, there have been and stil arel, times when I pray and seek the Lord about something, and the reply is very "specific." Sometimes, it's like the Lord gives me a little peak at what He is doing, and going to do in the future. And it's up to me, to "believe" come hell or high water. that He will work out what he says, even when circumstances tell me, there is no way. The Joshua example you used fits for me here. So for me, there are times when we have to put total faith and trust in something very specific that he Lord has revealed to us. The key is, he has to first reveal his will, his heart, his intentions, etc. for the situation. It's not putting our total faith in what we wish for. But in his will coming to pass. I hope this makes sense. :)

Warning: Socks, I finally remember which teaching it was the inspired the questioned I asked about suffering.... (Eureka!! she says proudly.) ok, I admit this probably has nothing to do with nothing, but I'll "share" it anyway. It was the teaching LCM did on "Stephen, Both Barrels Blazing." Summer of 78, in the BRC. LCM taught it, but VPW was there. As I recall, the reason LCM gave for Stephen's being stoned to death was that "his believing failed." HELLO? WHAT?? was what my little pea brain was screaming. Sorry for the interruption in ya'lls conversation. As you were. -
Ohmigosh, suda. rofl I forgot Mom used to say that. And yes I know exactly what you mean about listening, and not doubting that what you know is more than what anybody else knows. ;)

Just my opinion, but it seems a tad bit injudicious to make a ruling on someone's "ministry" because of the organization they were a part of decades ago. After all, he left the cult. I was raised Catholic, but I now am involved in a Methodist church. No one holds my background against me. Thank goodness. ;) If you want personal testimonials on John Hendrick's organization in particular, I don't know that you will find them here, Richard. I wish you the best.

Thanks Raf and Out. So my next question is, how we do we know the difference between the general stuff and the specific? I understand living in a fallen world, dealing with what is, not overstepping anybody else's free will, and searching for God's Will. But how does anybody know what it is specifically? that is God's will at any given point in time? for a certain person in a certain circumstance? I know you don't just "think it up." I'm just asking what somebody recently asked me. And I didn't quite know what to say.
-
Not to be picky here, but......I love the examples cited, however..... Having faith in the general promises of God, as in what is written in the bible, could possibly different than trusting in a specific promise made by God to a specific person in a specific circumstance?

Belle, if'n it makes ya feel any better, I get the elbow from son in church. I'll be really into the music and have my eyes closed and ahem, forget myself? and allova sudden son pokes me and says, "Mom, you're singing too loud." He's 13. He cain't help it. Unfortunately, the singing gene doesn't exist in my family's gene pool. Altho, I do have a daughter who sings like an angel. I must credit her dad for that. We do the best we can. :D I've already put in my request for a singing voice when we get our new bodies. ;)

Wait, stop, hold the phone. Am I missing something here? Raf, I don't see you as wanting to condemn Mike to death or anything. It's just a (sometimes heated, yeah) discussion on a forum board, no? -
wow, pond. What you said is so true. The "law of believing" (among other related things) bred a conspiracy of silence, and emotional death.

Socks, I'm whispering so I don't interrupt everybody else. It was summer 1978. Yeah, the soldier vs. athlete thing makes total sense. Seems the soldier analogy got dropped somewhere along the way in favor of the athlete one. Yeah LCM got buried in it, but VP started it. When VP taught us Ephesians our last yr. in-rez, he used the athletics terms. But didn't VPW teach Ephesians 6 in PFAL using the soldier analogy? not the athlete? -

Oh, and I should add, I didn't always work the back room. Sometimes my job was to sit by the light switch that was on the wall of the BRC halfway between the front and back on the right. I had the illustrious honor of flipping the switch off when way prod played, and switching it back on, after they finished. :o I never could figure why that switch was where it was.....
