  1. Yes. and to listen to the amount of grief that they have gone through to get segments of Al jazeera translated into English and broadcast here in America. It is amazing. We don't get CNN, just ABC and PBS. :(
  2. Iraqi Forces Deliver Food to Ramadi, Detain Terrorists American Forces Press Service cool :)

  4. Dont forget that many are convinced that this news source may be suspect. :)
  5. LOL In many cases men buy the cow and still dont get any milk. I am not entirely sure that buying the cow is a good idea. I have certainly seen cows that ony provide milk, so long as they are in an 'un-bought' status. :)

    Fair Time

OE - I am so sorry to hear about her DW's health, she will be in our prayers. We had a lot of fun today, Bonnie went with me and she attended a workshop on preparing and cooking wild mushrooms. Bonnie had entered some samples of her soaps and knitting and she received some nice ribbons. She also got a lot of notes and comments on her soap, which she was really looking forward to getting. I attended a workshop today, on growing crops for energy production, which was very informative, and then we both went through a workshop on raising bees. I have done bees a couple times previously but I have had a lot of problems getting them to winter-over well. So I hope to be better prepared now. We will likely not be able to attend the Fryeburg Fair, as I do need to finish our preparations for winter on our new House. I do hope everyone has a lot of fun though. Bless you.

    Fair Time

Home again from another long day at the fair! I joined a workshop with a State Forester and 30 other wood-lot owners. We walked through a section of forest that is 'low-impact' managed. and we learned a lot. Wild-life habitats, timber production, soil quality, thinning methods, and tax benefits. Then I attended a workshop on GMO crops and their threat to the environment and public safety. A workshop of backyard Apple orchards. and one on mushroom cultivating at home. I had a very interesting talk with a couple that produce red worms, and they really encouraged me to begin farming worms with our kitchen waste and poultry waste. I hope that everyone else who was able to attend, also had fun today.

WOW! We had a great day at the fair. Today I attended a two-hour workshop on living soil systems, a one-hour workshop on using medicinal herbs through fermentation, and a one-hour workshop on over-wintering bees. They even addressed specifically the process of converting forest-land directly over to crop-lands. [which is an issue that I am dealing with on our property] Bonnie attended the workshop on composting, foraging and feasting on fungi fearlessly. What a day! Lots of bare-foot long-haired hippies.
  9. Yes, so long as he has 'repented' of his wrongs, he should be fully forgiven. No, he no longer qualifies to be a leader of the church. His televised confession was for public consumption, a PR thing. If he confessed his wrongs in his church, or to those whom he wronged, then yes. As to returning to leadership? No. Did he confess to his wrongs?I have not heard such. Did he confess? If he did then, he should be forgiven. However, he may have lost respectability. I did not send him any of my money, I see no indication that I should start. Again, I feel the same. His name only had 'respectability' among that sect, and no where else that I am aware of.If he had survived, and served his prison sentence, and confessed, then fine he would be forgiven. I would use the same measure here. If he committed wrongs chargeable against the state, then the state should have convicted him. If his church congregation feels that he wronged them, did he confess? If they feel wronged by him, and if he never confessed; then no.

We will be there again. Looking forward to seeing others too. :)
  12. We will be there this year. 22, 23, 24 September. Last year I took Bonnie, and could hardly get her out of the wool carding and spinning tent. This year she has the schedule of classes, so we are planning the weekend around the classes that they are offering.
  13. 'Bluing' is NOT paint. It is a chemical method of oxidizing a one-molecule-thick layer of the steel. It is done to protect the inner layers of steel from oxidizing. With a very thin skin of permanent bluing or oxide a piece of steel, it becomes very resistant to further rusting. Old formulae gave a red colour. But during the industrial revolution their discovered how to do a chemical oxide layer that is dark blue. When you deal with these chemicals are try to get them to react, cleanliness and temperature have a huge influence. Thus most 'homemade' bluing finishes that you see look terrible. Every inch is a different shade of blue. Some light blue, some dark blue, and many even a few patches of black. Which is why you need to clean to good, including doing an alcohol wash. And heating the steel to 200 F is an absolute requirement. to get an even finish. I do it in three treatments, to ensure that the finish is even. Any gunsmith can inspect, but after that they would only be making a guess as to the 'safety' of firing the weapon. Without performing a proofing, you just don't know. Clean it up, re-blu it, oil it, and then you can either sale it; or go proof it. No big deal. I have proofed weapons a few times. And no gunsmith can absolutely guarantee the safety of any weapon until it has not been proofed. :)
  14. Strip it down to nothing but the steel. Buff away all rust, Then clean it with alcohol, to remove all oils [including finger-print oils]. Put it in your oven and heat it up to 200. After it gets to 200, pull it out and paint on the bluing, and put it back into the oven. Heat, apply and re-heat; is the sequence. Do this three times and then after a final heating let it cool. the next day you can oil it and reassemble. I have blued a new on things: rifles, pistols, and even a couple knives. I find it fairly easy to do. Happy bluing!!

  17. Yes, true, thank you for repeating something that I have said previously. Thank you. What does the Bible say really about modern usage of chemotherapy? Or digital-encryption? Again these are topics that just are not really talked about much back then. Modern medicine was not around yet, nor did people know about oxygen and the role of the placenta. I am sure however that God knew all about them, and when authoring the Bible, He gave us everything that we would need for knowing Him. So basing a Biblical Doctrine either way, founded on the 'logic' of modern science and today's pre-defined perceptions is shaking at best. What is the distinction between brain-death and cellular death and breathing? You can look at these from a modern science based viewpoint, or from the biblical viewpoint. I have issue with basing your relationship with God, on anything other than the Bible. ‘Miscarriages from mischief' seems to be the closest that the Bible really addresses the issue, and in God's viewpoint it is a trespass against the Father/Husband of the woman. The concept that the Father/Husband or the woman initiated the mischief is not mentioned. There have always been methods of performing abortions, as well as causing a miscarriage, so assuming that it was never thought of, is lacking as well. You can not commit adultery against yourself. Nor can you covet against yourself. You already have what you already have. Sins can be against God, or they can be against your neighbor. Clearly God does not care on this issue, otherwise He would have said so. God places ‘Miscarriages from mischief' as a sin against your neighbor, and I would tend to leave it there. If your not trespassing against your neighbor, rather you are handling your own property, and no sin has happened. Is abortion a good thing? I have stated this previously, but for some reason I seem to be cast into the position here of restating the obvious, No abortion is a serious matter. It should not be so convenient that it leads to further promiscuity. Promiscuity is bad. I truly do appreciate being cast into the position of trying to ‘defend’ a man that I have never met. And that I likely do not entirely agree with.
  18. Fine, except that I did comment on it.
  19. Asked and answered. As for 'defending' VPW. I have no desire to defend the man, nor have I ever.

    Only at Walmart

We discussed it and agreed, that we prefer to buy at the local stores and dealers, but if a ‘box-store’ can beat the price by more than 20% we are buying from the box-store. When we decided to buy our teen a rifle, I did shop around. And I found that my paper-work prerequisites were not in order. My driver’s license for Maine did not have listed a street address of property that I owned. So it took me a month to get everything fixed [property tax bill showing my lot number, county tax map showing where the land is, state office to decide on our new street address, convince them to put that address into writing, DMV to print out a new license with the address. Oh by the way the street address they decided to use in not in order with the other houses on the road, the state issued one street number, but the mail-delivery lady insisted that I make-up another number that is in sequence with my neighbors]. Then I went back to price shopping once again. I decided on what we were going to buy at the local gun dealer [$300], but I checked at Walmart [$120] and I was shocked at the price difference. Then when doing their paperwork, I learned even more. The local gun dealer must comply with Maine law [thus all the goose chasing that I did]. But the Walmart [since it has stores in all states] can use any state’s driver’s license, so long as they follow the applicable laws for that state. So I could have bought the rifle using a previous Ct driver license and not had to go through so many steps. By the way, we have found many things that either Walmart or Homedepot sale for way cheaper than any local store offers.
  21. To my knowledge a fetus is developing bones and muscles and a nervous system all along. The body of the fetus moves, by kicking, twisting, turning and so forth from somewhere along the second trimester on. So? I am sure that such is relevant though I don't see how.

Why wouldn't they sell ammo? They do have a 'sporting goods' department, I have bought firearms from them. And we went by one this past weekend and among our listing list was also included ammo for one of our son's rifles. So we do purchase firearms [sometimes] from WallyWorld, and ammo, and sometimes ammo is even on our shopping list. I don't see the issue. Other than in the above story the guy was an idiot. We do have a trigger-lock on the son's rifle. though I do not have anything on any of my pistols, nor on my rifles, nor shotgun. When we had foster-children in the house I walled-in the area where I stored my firearms. But now that we no longer have foster-children and have moved out very rural, we once again use our firearms at will. :)
